Is getting a pharm tech license worth it?

Recently got laid off of my job as a full time recruiting coordinator. I’m in school part time and I’m not sure if I’d like to get back into an office position or get something more flexible? I also thought of getting something in retail but honestly I don’t have experience and the pay isn’t great so I was looking into getting a pharmacy tech/medical assistant license, I’m just not sure it’s worth it… thoughts?

    Interviewing in Colorado sucks!

Alright, I’ve been interviewing for marketing roles here in Colorado for a few months now, and I have to vent because it’s honestly giving me the ICK 😖. Is anyone else feeling this, or is it just me? Denver is not exactly cheap (seriously, have you seen the rent here lately?!), yet the salaries they offer for marketing positions are way lower than what I’ve been offered in other states. Like, how does that even add up?

I’ve had interviews with companies that seem super disorganized, interviewers who clearly didn’t read my resume, and don’t even get me started on the vibe. I swear, some of these hiring managers act like they’re doing me a favor by offering $75-80k when the cost of living here is crazy. I’ve gotten better offers from smaller towns with a much lower cost of living. The disconnect is wild.

Also, some resources that have helped me a lot as I interview for several roles, both in Colorado and other states. Hope this helps

Is "Built In Colorado" Worthless now?

How many of the postings on this job board are fake at this point? It used to be a really good resource for finding job openings but lately they seem to just repost constantly. I will look on a Sunday afternoon and they will have 20+ jobs that were apparently posted that Sunday morning and half the time it is either not a Denver job or the job doesn't even exist on the company's site. I have given up on the Built in Co, wondering if anyone else feels the same way.

Pros of commissioning as a Marine Corps Officer

Hey Reddit! I wanted to share some insights into the pros of commissioning as an officer in the Marine Corps, for anyone considering this career path. Becoming an officer has been a transformative experience with countless benefits, from career growth to financial stability. You’re not eligible unless you have a college degree. Here are a few of the major advantages:

    1. Job Security

      • The Marine Corps offers one of the most stable career paths out there. While other jobs may come and go, a career in the military provides long-term job security, especially if you plan to serve for an extended period. Your skills and position are valued, which can be a major relief if job stability is important to you.

    2. Competitive Salary

      • The Marine Corps officer salary is competitive, especially considering the tax-free allowances you get for housing (BAH) and subsistence (BAS). Officers start with a solid base pay, and as you move up in rank, your pay increases. Plus, if you reach higher ranks, you’ll enjoy substantial pay bumps and bonuses, particularly if you stay in for 20 years or more. Salary starts at around 90k once you’re through the training pipeline and sits at about 130-150k after four years. • Additionally, certain billets and deployments come with extra pay (like hazardous duty pay or family separation allowance), which can really add up over time.

    3. Comprehensive Benefits

      • Healthcare: Officers and their families have access to comprehensive healthcare. The Marine Corps covers most medical, dental, and vision needs, which can save you a lot in the long run. • Retirement Plan: After 20 years of service, you’re eligible for a lifetime pension, which is a massive financial benefit. Even if you don’t serve the full 20 years, you can benefit from the Blended Retirement System, which includes matching contributions to a retirement fund. • Education Benefits: Officers have access to the GI Bill, which can cover advanced degrees after your service or fund your family’s education. Many officers also use tuition assistance to fund graduate-level courses while still in the military, which is a great way to build a second career while serving. • Housing: Officers receive a housing allowance if living off-base, or they can live in provided housing on base. The allowance is adjusted based on the cost of living in different areas, so you’re well-supported wherever you’re stationed.

    4. Leadership and Career Development

      • As a Marine officer, you’re trained to lead others, make strategic decisions, and manage resources, which are skills that can translate into a wide range of civilian careers if you decide to transition out. • Additionally, Marine Corps experience looks great on a resume. Many companies value military leadership experience highly, and it often helps former officers land jobs with competitive pay.

    5. Travel and Cultural Experiences

      • Being an officer can lead to travel opportunities around the world. You might be stationed overseas in places like Japan, Europe, or various locations around the U.S. Serving abroad gives you a chance to experience new cultures and develop a global perspective, which can be a unique benefit of military life.

    6. Work-Life Balance and Family Benefits

      • There are many programs for service members and their families, including support networks, spouse employment assistance, and child care programs. If you have a family, they’ll benefit from a wide range of support services designed for military families.

    7. Personal Fulfillment

      • Commissioning as an officer isn’t just a job – it’s an opportunity to serve your country, lead Marines, and make a difference. If you’re looking for a career with a strong sense of purpose, this path can provide immense satisfaction.

Overall, commissioning as a Marine Corps officer offers a well-rounded package of financial stability, career growth, and benefits for both you and your family. It’s a challenging path, but for those who embrace it, it can be incredibly rewarding. Feel free to ask any questions if you’re considering this career path!

    Hi,

Seeking a salesperson to find and secure clients and contracted work for my Denver-based Photography and Video production business.

Hi everyone, I work as a freelance photo and video producer within the Denver Metro area. Currently my clientele mostly consists of non-profits and I'd like to ramp up my pay, number of clients, and variety of work that I perform in 2025.

Weddings are one area in particular I hope to start working in.

Truly, if there's any part of my business that I would like to delegate or streamline it would be sales and networking. Don't get me wrong, I love people and building relationships with them, and people do seem to like me back, but I have found frequent networking to be far too large of a time expense. I've just not been able to make the networking events and my deadlines at the same time.

I'm thinking this would probably work best with a sales contractor or partner taking home a percentage of the overall cost of each contract.

If this sounds interesting to anyone let me know. I'll send you a link to my website and samples of some of my more previous work and if you like what you see we can arrange for a meeting over lunch or coffee from there.

Job Help - May 2025 Grad

Hello! I will be graduating with a degree in biology in May 2025. Currently, I live in Texas, but I am looking to relocate to Denver in Late May-early June. When is the best time to apply for laboratory positions for people planning to relocate? When should I apply if I graduate in spring? I have had a microbiology internship working for the City Of Houston in their public health laboratory. I am also in the Army working in the laboratory as a Petroleum Laboratory Specialist. I am mostly interested in QA/QC microbiology opportunities. I have read threads that say companies already want you to live in Colorado. Is this the same for recent grads? Should I apply anyway? If so, do you know of any opportunities?

    Does getting hired still exist?

I (28F) graduated this past spring with a BA in History. I won’t bore you with the details of my hundreds of applications with almost zero prospects because that is a familiar tale in this job market. I left Denver to finish my last year of school in my home state and moved back here about a month ago. I am having the most difficult time getting my foot in the door absolutely anywhere because my experience level isn’t up to par with the 5-years minimum experience for most entry-level jobs.

As I am an older grad, I took time off throughout school trying to figure out what I wanted to do and over time, I’ve had a wide variety of different jobs and skills developed through them, so I have a lot of differing work experience but not what any places have been looking for. I’ve mainly been looking into non-profits and the grant writing world to professionally utilize my love for and training in research and writing. Pretty much all I want is a job that feels like it's making a positive impact on the world, however, this has apparently been impossible to find or qualify for.

Any suggestions from the Denver community on what organizations to look at/anyone hiring? At this point, I’m desperate to make ends meet so any advice or suggestions are more than welcome! Thank you in advance.

Where is easy to get hired at/job leads?

I'm about to move to Denver (nov 7th) and have had no luck with getting a job or even really interviews. I have 4 years of food service experience, I've worked late nights (6pm-5am), currently I'm a kennel tech. I've just been throwing myself at everything I see on indeed and gotten pretty much nothing back from anywhere.

    Is ANYONE hiring?!?

I’m a new-ish grad from cu boulder (dec ‘23) and I can’t find a job ANYWHERE. I (22F) worked a sales & marketing job in a very male-dominated industry right out of college but it was awful - I got harassed daily and put up with it for a while but had a really bad situation happen to me so I ended up quitting. I was damn good at it - I have a psyc degree and know how to work a sale. But I’ve had probably 15 interviews in October alone for various jobs and have only heard back from maybe 8. Mind you - these interviews last 3 and 4 rounds and I make it to the end, but. Bad news obviously. Hell I’ll take anything at this point - my savings are getting drained with how expensive everything is nowadays.

If anyone knows of literally anything hiring for an entry level type of job….

EDIT: to these random people who want to leave pointless hate instead of offer advice under this post: (yes I’ve read all the comments and this is getting lots of traction and a lot of my peers seem to be feeling the same): I have a psyc degree and want to go to grad school but can’t afford it right now. Throughout college I was a manager at a local boutique bed & breakfast as well as an administrative assistant at a well-known real estate branch. I am also a certified Pilates instructor, and I’ve spent my fair share of time working in restaurants as well. I’ve had a job since I was 16 and have paid my way through all my schooling. Obviously I have a “desirable skill set” and am a hardworking and smart young woman. I understand that psychology isn’t a glamorous degree to have, but I want to go back to school to pursue what I love. But in the mean time I just need a goddamn job…. Hating on someone who wants to work…. lol

Is it easy to find a job in the energy sector in Colorado with a J2 visa and regular EAD?

    Hi everyone,

My spouse is in the process of obtaining a J-1 visa to work as a physician in Denver, CO, and I will be on a J-2 visa with an EAD (hoping it will not take too long).

I’m wondering if it’s relatively easy to find a job there with a EAD and with previous professional experience in Italy (2 years in strategy consulting and 3 years as a regulatory affair expert in the european leading gas infrastructure operator), or if there are challenges due to the visa’s stability/other issues . Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Current experience with falling through the cracks of employment because of an unexpected illness and trying to move forward with the search..

I am a mid 30s female, originally from the Midwest. I have lived in Grand County, Fort Collins and now the metro area. I had a very fruitful career. I received a Bachelor's of Human Services degree from a good college and began working as an emergency dispatcher for about 9 years. I loved it so much but the entire time working 10 hours graveyards really started to affect all aspects of my life.

I took time off and traveled around the country with my dog in our camper. An absolute dream and I'm so grateful I was able to do that. When I returned I immediately got a government case worker job for elderly and disabled folks to receive different to types of assistance in their homes and was still dispatching part time. Helping people is my thing. I totally enjoy it.

January 2023, I woke up in an ambulance with the sirens blaring and lights spinning. I asked the gentleman if I had gotten into a motorcycle accident and he said "no honey, you had a seizure". Totally didn't believe him, but he was right and unfortunately it became a usual thing. The multiple doctors and specialists diagnosed me with epilepsy and another type of seizure disorder. Between hospital stays, seizure groups, ambulance rides and medication changes I ran out of all types of leave and my FMLA in about 3 months. Then I was "medically separated" from my job...

Being cleared to work and drive again was a mountain but I climbed it! I also kept my brain "working" and received my Paralegal Certificate while being at home. It took several months but was so excited. The neurologist recommended that I do not get into a dispatching job or one where I have to drive. In the first couple weeks I had 2 interviews and a call for a third! I thought I had really clicked with a couple people and anxiously awaited their response. Then I received two "Sorry, you're not the candidate". I was pretty bummed. I thought we got along great and I had the perfect experience for the position. Oh well, next time...

Since January I have been to roughly 19 interviews. (It got really depressing to keep track) Most interviews were for government, case work, and anything relevant with my experience and education. I received 6 second interviews and 1 third. Within a week, it would be the same rejection email. I have followed up with emails, connected via social media platforms, called, and even stopped into different law offices to network.

The reason I decided to finally write this is because I just received an email from Whole Foods this morning that I don't have the previous skills to be a part time worker. I have begun to clean people's homes for cash. My goal is to apply for at least three jobs a day. Receiving my seizure diagnosis has drained me in so many different ways, including financially and am stuck in my lease for a few more months.

I am not looking for pity, or anything for that matter. I just want it to be known that this is the current state of the employment situation here. If you go through many previous posts, many people concur! Good luck out there!

    Pre-req Mortuary Science Student

I hope this message finds you well. I am currently completing my prerequisites to apply for the Funeral Science program at my college. As this program has a competitive acceptance rate, I am eager to enhance my application. One significant factor in boosting my chances is obtaining relevant experience in death services. However, I have encountered challenges in securing a position, as many funeral homes prefer candidates who are either currently enrolled in a mortuary science program or have prior experience in the field. I reside in the Denver area and would greatly appreciate any advice or recommendations for gaining experience in the funeral directing industry. Any insights from professionals currently working in this field would be invaluable as I pursue my dream. Thank you for your time and consideration.
