I'm a 42yo dude that grew up admiring the demoscene every inch of its way. The amount of inspiration and direction I took from all these amazing people is hard to overstate.
One aspect being, that the scene has always been on top of tech, and made exceptional use of the hardware avialable at the time.
Almost 2y ago I called the shot to buy my first VR headset - the Quest 3. Had a bunch of fun with it, but am inreasingly let down by the graphical fidelity of games released with VR in mind. I went mostly in with PCVR in mind, yet developers tend to aim for the lowest common denomniator for graphics - the mobile kind, that runs natively on glasses. Massive bummer.
So here I am, wondering if the scene has taken to this "new" realm of possibilities. And kindly asking for directions to find ways of experiencing them, if they do indeed exist.
Many thanks in advance and the kindest of regards!
What is the name of this demo shown at 00:20 https://youtu.be/VFQ9BwfQJRA?si=kqEBuzMM-_VQ0Zxd
Hello there!
30 years ago I was in a group called Dual 4mat. We had a few demos released, most of which have now disappeared into the digital ether. Our biggest production was a demo called WOO! Just a simple prod with a catchy tune.
30 years later I decided to revisit WOO and remade it in Scratch, which is perfect for it (I wish it had been around back then as 68k ASM was probably not the best thing to code this kind of prod in.)
2024's version can be found here: https://megamitts.itch.io/woo-2024
1994's version can be found here: http://janeway.exotica.org.uk/release.php?id=104560
If you want to run WOO94 then you'll need to run WinUAE/UAE as a 500+ with 1mb chip.
I hope you enjoy it. See you on Pouet!
Edit: Thanks for the upvotes 😁
Looking back with wiser eyes I think this demo would have been better coded in AMOS back in 1994 but it was looked down upon to use it in the Amiga scene. However it would have been a lot better to use. These days I think I'll just use whatever gets me the result I want. A 48 year olds view compared to an 18 year olds.
When i decide to make a demo with my group for a compo, when can i start working on it? Is it when the compo's announced?
Not sure if this is the right place to ask for it, but I am looking for a demo from the early 90s, that was called "Dive". I know among others there was a spinning "key-like" symbol in it and the text Join the Dive was appearing repeatedly. Is there an archive of old demos where I could try to look it up?
In the future the aliens are about to conquer the earth. You are a skilled spaceship pilot and the last hope of mankind. Explore the asteroid belt between mars and jupiter and destroy all the aliens. Try to avoid the asteroids they can destroy your spaceship. You have only one minute.
In developing this application, I utilized a toolkit consisting of Win XP, Cygwin 32-Bit (for development environment setup), OpenGL, OpenAL, and implemented the application using C++. This allowed me to develop the application to run on PC, Mac, and Linux platforms. One of the main challenges during the development process was incorporating elements from Atari ST, which required additional research and implementation. Through this process, I have learned valuable lessons about cross-platform development, integration of legacy technologies, and ensuring compatibility across different operating systems.
