Hi members of r/DeltaBC!
I am a Research Assistant at the Concussion Outcomes Recovery and TECH Interventions (CORTECH) Lab at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. Dr. Jacqueline Purtzki (principal investigator) and Dr. Cairncross (co-investigator) are seeking adolescents aged 12-18 years who have had a concussion in the past 6 months and their caregivers to participate together in our paid and online study that evaluates the user-friendliness and credibility of an online concussion resource guide designed for adolescents called “My Guide Concussion – Teen Edition”.
In our study, we want to find out what teenagers and their caregivers think about the “MyGuide Concussion – Teen Edition” website and how it can be improved.
Interested individuals may be eligible for participation if they:

Video of Kristina Ward and unknown male walking through parking lot (youtube.com)
Kristina Ward, who is now 27 years old, was reported missing by her Abbotsford family in September of 2017. Kristina is Indigenous, and is described as 5'5'', 130 lbs, and has long, dark brown, curly hair and brown eyes.
In this article, Kristina was reported to have the functioning mental capacity of someone between the ages of 12 and 16 and needs special medication to avoid seizures. She is known to be very kind and trusting.
Before her disappearance, Kristina was known to frequently visit the downtown Langley City core. She was last seen crossing the street in surveillance video at 144th Street and 104th Avenue in Surrey on September 27th, 2017, sometime between 7:50 and 8:45 p.m. She was walking with an unidentified male and his bike. Despite dozens of leads, the man has yet to be identified. Authorities have said that the person has a "unique gait" and mannerisms someone from the community might recognize. September 27th, 2017 was also the last time Kristina used her cell phone or accessed her bank accounts.
Lee Anne Ward, Kristine's mother, said in 2018 "All information is very important to the police in finding the whereabouts of our child. Even the smallest information one may consider it as not of any importance may very well be the vital tip, allowing the police in solving and bringing Kristina home to us."
In 2020, she said: "We are wanting to raise the public's awareness concerning Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in Canada (MMIWG). Sadly, Kristina's name has been added to the database of MMIWG. No one has come forward on her disappearance to provide tips; it's like she has vanished. We need to end the silence of an epidemic on so many missing, murdered Indigenous people. If you know something - say something, be a voice for others."
Art Ward, Kristina's father, said in 2024 "We have not given up searching as we remain hopeful that someone somewhere knows something to bring Kristina back home to us. We need your help by spreading awareness and sharing information about Kristina's disappearance."
Up 'till now, "Investigators have received several 'tips' relating to Kristina but unfortunately, none have proven fruitful," said Corporal Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP.
The following has happened yesterday:
RCMP will join Kristina's parents, walking where Kristina was last seen on video surveillance. On Friday, September 27th (2024) at 9:15 a.m., the group will travel on 104th Avenue from 140th to 144th Street. This walk is open to anyone who wishes to join and show support for Kristina's family. The family will also be available to speak to the media at that location (Southeast corner of 104th and 144th).
I recently attended an event to hear the BC Provincial Leaders debate on issues, which was going to be held in Surrey. Well, the event never happened, and many people gathered in the building, waiting over an hour only to find out that the event was not even happening, and the space had not even been booked by the organization.
Let me ask this- how can a story get on every local newspaper, from Tofino to Grand Forks, and then the event doesn't happen? I still don't know what to think, I have reached out to all the organizations hosting by email and phone, to the news companies that put out the story and the reporter that wrote the article- and no reply.
Obviously, me among many others were quite frustrated, as we had left work early just to be at the event, and many drove or took transit for over an hour to get there, only to find out there was no event and no explanation. Nothing online, nothing from the organizations, nothing from the news.
Just have a read of this article and see if it makes any sense. They might take it down soon once they realize it was fake news or a miscommunication of some sort, but they haven't replied back with any reply as to why this could have happened. I am so disappointed because I wanted to attend this event and it never happened.

We are fighting a battle in historic Ladner Village with City Council wanting to build a 6-Storey hotel that doesn not fit with our Village character. Pls sign our petition https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/reject-deltas-2024-proposed-ladner-village
hi. can somebody recommend a company or a handyman to fix a leaning cedar fence in delta/tsawwasswn?
Hi, I'm planning to build a floating deck (DIY) in my yard. It's not going to be attached to my house and it's going to be about 8" off ground.
What I'm having trouble with right now is finding out where our frost line is at, so I know how deep I need to dig for my concrete footings. I would prefer using concrete blocks seeing as it's much simpler, and even the Richmond Home Depot Pro Builder consultant said concrete blocks are fine in my area. But I'm worried it'll sink in time.
I tried googling, and the result shows 18" for the Lower Mainland, but there is a disclaimer that states this varies depending on the area. I live in Ladner, and I understand our soil is much softer than in the Vancouver area. So is 18" enough? I also contacted the City of Delta, and the person told me to refer to the BC Building Code 2024. I did, but I still couldn't find any specific number.
Any help or advice will be tremendously appreciated. Thanks!

Hey! Looking to entertain the idea of starting a book club this summer in the surrey/delta area. No idea what it takes to start a book club, however I’m in my early 30’s and I love to read. Want to connect with some individuals this summer who enjoy good conversation, snacks, wine, and books!
Does anyone have dash cam footage of the 3 car accident on Friday May 24 2024 around 5pm on highway 91? I've attached a picture of location. Or any witnesses?
A car crashed into me from behind while I was slowing down to stop as traffic in front was slowing down, this caused me to rear end the car in front of me. My car is totally written off now.
Unfortunately I had no dash camera and because the car behind me says I rear-ended the car in front of me first, that is what ICBC is going with. Any advice on how to fight this?
My customary morning, walking into the apartment's underground parking lot at around 4:15 AM to get to my car to go to work, only to discover that my 1996 Subaru Legacy wagon was gone! I couldn't believe it. I had to think hard, was this a bad dream? Just spend $$$ on getting all 4 of the calipers, rotors, and brakes replaced...not to mention a new fuel pump, and rear windows tinted too!
I contacted the Delta Police, then ICBC, and received the respective claim numbers. I also informed my apartment office, and they say they're looking into it as well. At this point I feel so numb. I need it for my commute to work. You think that a gated underground parking lot would be safe...but it isn't.
I know the police are looking for the car, and I've checked Marketplace to see if someone's trying to sell it off. But I'm asking everyone out here, to be on the lookout for a silver 1996 Subaru Legacy wagon with rear tinted windows. There's a noticeable rust bubble on the left rear wheel well.
I could provide the license plate, but at this point in time, I'm sure they've swapped plates...or have taken the car to a chop shop. :(
