Kayaking around Woodward Island, Kirk Island, Gunn Island, etc.?

I will be visiting friends in Ladner for a few days and was looking at the map. I see there are several islands south of Deas Island including Woodward, Kirk, Gunn, Duck, and Barber. Maybe even locals don’t know there are official names for these islands, or perhaps Apple Maps just used names that are on the record for these islands but are not actually used?

Anyhow, are there kayaks in Ladner to rent so I can explore the water channels between these islands? On the map, it looks really cool, but I don’t know if they are navigable or even if it is legal to do so.

BC Party Leaders Panel never happened? Anyone know why?

I recently attended an event to hear the BC Provincial Leaders debate on issues, which was going to be held in Surrey. Well, the event never happened, and many people gathered in the building, waiting over an hour only to find out that the event was not even happening, and the space had not even been booked by the organization.

Let me ask this- how can a story get on every local newspaper, from Tofino to Grand Forks, and then the event doesn't happen? I still don't know what to think, I have reached out to all the organizations hosting by email and phone, to the news companies that put out the story and the reporter that wrote the article- and no reply.

Obviously, me among many others were quite frustrated, as we had left work early just to be at the event, and many drove or took transit for over an hour to get there, only to find out there was no event and no explanation. Nothing online, nothing from the organizations, nothing from the news.

Just have a read of this article and see if it makes any sense. They might take it down soon once they realize it was fake news or a miscommunication of some sort, but they haven't replied back with any reply as to why this could have happened. I am so disappointed because I wanted to attend this event and it never happened.

Building a deck, how deep for the concrete footing?

Hi, I'm planning to build a floating deck (DIY) in my yard. It's not going to be attached to my house and it's going to be about 8" off ground.

What I'm having trouble with right now is finding out where our frost line is at, so I know how deep I need to dig for my concrete footings. I would prefer using concrete blocks seeing as it's much simpler, and even the Richmond Home Depot Pro Builder consultant said concrete blocks are fine in my area. But I'm worried it'll sink in time.

I tried googling, and the result shows 18" for the Lower Mainland, but there is a disclaimer that states this varies depending on the area. I live in Ladner, and I understand our soil is much softer than in the Vancouver area. So is 18" enough? I also contacted the City of Delta, and the person told me to refer to the BC Building Code 2024. I did, but I still couldn't find any specific number.

Any help or advice will be tremendously appreciated. Thanks!

Delta zoning bylaws updated to allow coach houses, garden suites

Delta zoning bylaws updated to allow coach houses, garden suites
https://www.surreynowleader.com/home/delta-zoning-bylaw-updated-to-allow-coach-houses-garden-suites-7373854

"Under the bylaw changes, up to three housing units will be allowed on single-detached and duplex properties with an area less than or equal to 280 square metres (3,014 square feet), and up to four units on larger parcels."

"In new small-scale multi-unit housing (SSMUH) developments, owners will be permitted to build one principal single-detached or duplex dwelling with one secondary suite, plus up to two garden suites and/or coach houses with a total floor area of no more than 42 square metres (454 square feet) — about what the city currently allows for a two-car garage.

Looking for car accident witness May 24 2024 HWY 91 West bound

Does anyone have dash cam footage of the 3 car accident on Friday May 24 2024 around 5pm on highway 91? I've attached a picture of location. Or any witnesses?

A car crashed into me from behind while I was slowing down to stop as traffic in front was slowing down, this caused me to rear end the car in front of me. My car is totally written off now.

Unfortunately I had no dash camera and because the car behind me says I rear-ended the car in front of me first, that is what ICBC is going with. Any advice on how to fight this?

Instead of going to work this morning, my 1996 Subaru Legacy was stolen...from the underground parking lot!

My customary morning, walking into the apartment's underground parking lot at around 4:15 AM to get to my car to go to work, only to discover that my 1996 Subaru Legacy wagon was gone! I couldn't believe it. I had to think hard, was this a bad dream? Just spend $$$ on getting all 4 of the calipers, rotors, and brakes replaced...not to mention a new fuel pump, and rear windows tinted too!

I contacted the Delta Police, then ICBC, and received the respective claim numbers. I also informed my apartment office, and they say they're looking into it as well. At this point I feel so numb. I need it for my commute to work. You think that a gated underground parking lot would be safe...but it isn't.

I know the police are looking for the car, and I've checked Marketplace to see if someone's trying to sell it off. But I'm asking everyone out here, to be on the lookout for a silver 1996 Subaru Legacy wagon with rear tinted windows. There's a noticeable rust bubble on the left rear wheel well.

I could provide the license plate, but at this point in time, I'm sure they've swapped plates...or have taken the car to a chop shop. :(
