Seeing The Shrouds premiere at the Opera House tonight! So excited - anyone else attending?
I saw a post here last year of people asking whatever became of Ronald Mlodzik, a Canadian male actor who appeared as multiple characters in David Cronenberg's early works including Adrian Tripod and Mr. Merrick (Starliner Towers agent in Shivers). Did some research, and what I found is actually super interesting! He's now a retired professor and Archdeacon, and his sister, Arlene, had acted in one of Cronenberg's early productions too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Mlodzik It's really too bad that Mlodzik's work with Cronenberg has largely been forgotten.
Is this film good to fans of Cronenberg? I like a lot of his films & usually understand the message he’s going for but in this I was lost. I felt nothing watching it & it made absolutely no sense.
I just love it. I know it's a lot of variation on the same theme/leitmotif but it so perfectly fits the vibe of the film and cinematography.
I was just curious why Max would hallucinate Nicki being in the TV (the scene were he whips the TV on the set of Videodrome), and why he sees the cassettes and furniture breathing sexually and throbbing. Is it because the creators of Videodrome are targeting, for lack of a better word, perverts and sickos, so they make them hallucinate something they desire? So instead of a woman, it's actually the TV which is warping their reality?
Obviously there's no real answer (unless there's an interview with Cronenberg where he addresses this - plz link to it if that's the case), but I'd like to hear people's opinions.
Hi,
This video explores the concept of the "Spectacle Machine" and its relationship to media, consciousness, and reality. It draws on the work of Marshall McLuhan, Peter Kingsley, and David Cronenberg, and many others.
It includes two segments on Videodrome and the film is sort of the glue that holds the discussion together.

The discussion also explores the role of the "Divine Feminine" as a mediatrix or creator of the world, suggesting that the spectacle we perceive is a manifestation of a deeper, hidden reality.
Ultimately, the ‘hosts’ explore the idea that the human body itself can be understood as the ultimate "Spectacle Machine," capable of both creating illusion and offering a path to true understanding.
Hope this is interesting to someone!
Hi everyone! I have a 10/24 2:30pm ticket to see The Shrouds at AFI Fest in LA and I was wondering if anyone would be able to swap for a 10/27 9pm ticket. Please let me know!
I am likely going back to Toronto early next year and last I visited I never had the chance to search if there was any exhibits or displays.
Do any Toronto residents know of anything?
Really, I’m specifically inquiring about if Gabrielle’s body prosthesis and James’ leg brace are on display as Crash is my favourite film of all time.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to answer.
I am looking for the full show of the 1994 MTV Movie Awards. I believe that the VHS release and pay per view showings of his M Butterfly were promoted during this. It is not on YouTube or archive websites. Please help and thanks. I have been looking for this specific show for quite sometime.
it’s my 25th and this is the one movie I’ve asked for.
Im wondering why no distribution has picked up the distribution rights for Cronenberg’s latest movie The Shrouds?
Kind of a random question, but I got curious after learning about Cronenberg's affinity for motor sports and his racing movie Fast Company.
I haven't had any luck looking through interviews in books or online, but has he ever mentioned any interest in other sports like hockey or the CFL? Or statements he made where he says he dislikes sports?
Cronenberg's my favourite director so thought I'd put the callout to r/DavidCronenberg for a Letterboxd exchange!

Between "take me back to Oblivion" and "cathode ray kiss," the vibes are on point. Good stuff.
The Shrouds really is one of the best things i've seen in years.... film reviewing really has gone to the toilet like everything else..
