Dashcam videos, recommendations, and troubleshooting

~Why a Dashcam?~

Dashcams are a cheap insurance policy. In case of an accident, the opposing party can lie about what happened to reduce the likelihood that they are found to be at fault. Happens all the time. Having video of what happened can save you $1000's in insurance and potential legal fees. Dashcams can also get you out of falsely written tickets. If you don't have a dashcam and are given a ticket for an infraction you didn't commit, it's your word vs the police officer's word. With a dashcam, there is irrefutable evidence to prove your innocence. There is absolutely no reason not to get one. See the listings below to get started.

Second, dashcam videos are an excellent form of driver's education. Watching videos of other accidents may help others recognize potential accidents before they happen and maybe even scare them out of bad driving habits such as texting and driving or speeding.

Dashcam guidance

Hello, After almost getting my windshield taken out by a basketball sized hunk of ice during the Easter weekend I've realized I need some sort of dashcam.

I am looking for one that would record the front, back, and driver.

I do not know much about dashcams, other than there are types you can hook up to the fusebox. I hope I don't need to hook one up to my fusebox, as I am unsure how to do so.

I am wondering if there are any wireless options that don't require a subscription.

I have a 2013 nissan sentra if that matters.

Nextbase 522w keeps freezing

Hi all,

I have a hard wired 522W that keeps freezing with just the Red LED and Nextbase LED lit. It is also getting hot in this state. I have to push the reset button to get it back. I have formatted the SD card, it is a decent high endurance Sandisk.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

RV with towed vechicle recommendation

I’m looking for a 4k dashcam in the RV with a rear camera in the back of the towed vehicle. The RV has starlink wifi. Any recommendations for up to $500?

Dual Dash Cam Evidence. Will it have the other driver accountable?

My car was severely dinged in a parking lot, but I have dash cam footage capturing the other vehicle's license plate (with the exact plate number), model, and a loud noise of the impact. The faces of the two individuals involved—the driver and the passenger—are also clearly visible. The passenger entered through the rear passenger side door; however, it did not directly capture the visual of the impact itself, due to lack of side recordings.

Will this type of dash cam evidence typically be enough for auto insurers to determine fault and have the other driver's insurance cover the repair costs? Or will I likely have to pay out-of-pocket?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dual DashCam Recommendations? Price range $100-300ish? More info in comments!

Hello everyone!

So I have been doing some research on Dual Dashcams and there are so many options to choose from that it is a little overwhelming. I do not plan to hardwire the dashcam to my car, but I would like to get one that can handle the California heat (sometimes I am parked in an area with no shade), but also handle colder weather (Aka snow). I'm assuming most dash cams are equipped for this, but I do not know which ones are better suited. One dual dashcam that I constantly see good reviews for is the Vanture e2 Dash cam.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or has a dual dashcam that they really like and haven't had any issues with? Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!

Looking for a decent dashcam that doesn't break the bank

Title speaks for itself, the few dashcams that I am interested in are the thinkware u1000 (a bit much tho), the vantrue n4 pro, Garmin mini 2, the rexing v33 piqued my interest $500 is a bit much $100-$390. I want to use this for driving and while it's parked. Thanks for the help in advanced! 😁

Need help finding a dash cam that can also connect my music from my phone

I only have one 12v socket but that is used for my radio Bluetooth transmitter because my cars bluetooth audio is broken. I also don’t want to hardwire a dashcam and drain the car battery just so I can keep my transmitter plugged in.

Does the CarPlay smart mirror dash cams successfully connect and play music/ Spotify from your phone via Bluetooth?

Best 2 channel dash cam?

I'm going to be moving to a bigger city in the next couple months, so I would like to get a dash cam, just in case.

I have an older quad cab pickup so it needs to be two channel so I can put one in the rear window

I was looking at the Thinkware U3000, but $550 is kinda expensive and I'm not sure I really need to spend that much

Is that one worth the money or do you guys have any other suggestions?

Also I'm not sure if there are any specific features I should be looking for when making my purchase, so any recommendation there would also be great

Thanks

Thinkware F200 Pro

I recently installed this dash cam with the OBD2 connector. Whenever I drive the dash cam will constantly switch from continuous mode to park mode. It does not do this with the aux cord. How do I fix this?

Viofo A129 duo

I plan on just using the cigarette lighter plug because I've read too many comments on here saying they used the hardwire kit and it drained the battery.

Now after I put the vehicle in park will it hurt the camera if I judt unplug when I'm done with the car and just plug it back in when I'm going for a drive? And continuously do this?

I'm not tech savvy nor have I ever had a fash cam before.

Question

My dash cam is mounted on the windshield, which has to be parked for at least six hours in the sun, as we have no shaded or covered parking. One time the camera was overheated by the time I was leaving work and the battery swelled. Aside from taking it off the windshield, how do I keep this from happening?

Cost aside, is there a reason to get the Nextbase 622GW over the Vantrue N4 PRO?

I would like to support a company that's at least somewhat British, but the Vantrue just seems better at everything.
