I'm new to the DSTBG, and noticed that the Core Sets have encounters that could replenish the Heroic Actions rather than relying on Sparks. I only ask of this because during my runs w/ my friends, the Heroic Actions felt so expensive that we almost played the entire game without even using it, which is kind of awful. I'm playing on the Base game and I'm wondering what's a good house rule that lets you use Heroic Action without needing Sparks?
This encounter called "Parish Church" has a trial that if we follow the rules strictly then it would be almost imposible to archieve, all to just gain 4 more souls if we successfully complete it.
Let me explain: The Trial is to flip all trap tokens. Of course those trap tokens has to be the ones that are displayed for the "illusion" special rule, because none of the tiles has trap tokens on their setup. Now then, for the rules of the "illusion" is said that when the "Doorway token" is flipped discard all face down trap tokens, so unless you didn't find the "doorway token" at last then you can't flip all trap tokens that were not fliped anymore, because the others were removed when you find the "doorway token", and this only for the first tile because on second tile "illusion" aplies again and if you were lucky on the first tile then you need to be very lucky again if you want to complete the trial succesfully. Again, all of that for just 4 extra souls at the end.
And is not the case that we could avoid the "doorway token" all we can and complete the encounter without that because to complete the encounter the objective says: "Kill all enemies", so if we remove the trap tokens when found the "doorway token" and tose count for the trial as we fliped those then is imposible to not to complete the trial, so is just useless to call it a trial.
Then I tought that there are a few other options.
Or you don't discard all the other trap tokens when you find the "doorway token" so you can pass on each those nodes and flip tose trap tokens one by one.
Or you can win the encounter in just tile 1, killing all enemies on that tile and not moving onto any trap token (if that counts for the objective of the encounter, because you killed all enemies already and if you go to other tiles other enemies will apear, this exactly is what happens with the mimic if we open the chest and is a mimic or if we are lucky and is just a regular chest), of course that way you don't complete the trial but the encounter would end rapidly.
Idk, maybe is another missprint or I'm overthinking this, but what are your thoughts?
Personally I think if anything this encounter needs more explanation or they should just put the trial as "open the chest" or something like that, because the posibility of a mimic could also be avoided just not opening that chest, therefore not risking to add another enemy and last more to complete the encounter
Feel like I get incredibly lucky with the Four Kings
I was successful in getting this expansion from another user here a few months ago, and I finally got everything scanned in. There is just about no reliable way to purchase this set, and every listing online that I have seen is fake. Be very skeptical in searching for physical copies of this. I would say check Facebook marketplace and such. I have seen a copy pop up in my area. Here is the link for my scans, if any are illegible let me know and I will fix it in the Google drive file. I do not have access to a scanner, so these had to be done in Adobe scan on my phone. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1wITMXUZWe51-N8sUcLuJLHIgdlPX50KW
Hello,
Im want to know what Expansion tonget next.
Vordt, Gaping Dragon, Or Last giant?
I Like the gaping Dragon from the size, but heard vordt is nice fight. I dont know about the giant, seems pretty lame but maybe there IS a nice Catch...
I bought the original board game a couple of years ago, and I enjoyed a lot, but seeing the various changes, I was wondering what I could do to make it more like the new version.
If there are some expansions I should by or some resources I could download/print ecc.
Now it's almost complete. Really happy!
About to play the painted world with 4 players. My understanding of the new rules is that every time you go to the bonfire and buy treasure, it costs a spark. Only having 2 sparks to begin with this drastically reduces the amount of treasure you can buy throughout the game. Are you able to buy sparks back like in V1 rules? I know you can get treasure through other means but it seems like there’s a disadvantage to play with 4 players.
Hello everyone,
I was playing the sunless city campaign with a friend and we stumbled upon the "Tempting Maw" level 1 encouter which specifies "Kill enemies within 5 turns" (for 2 players).
There are 4 enemies.
We looked at it, and looked at the rules, and were very curious as to how to actually accomplish killing 4 enemies in this short timeframe, given that the rules seem to describe turns as both one player turn and all enemies turn, meaning that we would only get two character activation before reaching turn 5. (enemies, character, enemies, character, enemies, the end)
Is there an different way to tackle this? We couldn't find a separate definition for "turns" and "encounter turns"...
Also, the rulebook specifies that you complete encounters when you reach the objective, but it doesn't specify what happens when you "fail the objective", only when you die... ("If a character dies during the encounter, the party is defeated and the players fail the encounter." page 18 sunless city book)
What are we supposed to do if we don't die but don't manage to kill the enemies within those 5 turns?
Thank you in advance!
I started with the V2 Core Sets (Ariamis) in november of last year. I finally got my hands on the V1 Core as I wanted to get a lot of new bosses, characters, equipment, encounters etc. Now the problem we have encountered is that, after 3 full attempts (3 full restart games), we were not able to beat the Gargoyle or the Winged Knight. Mind you, we usually won at the first attempt when playing against Berenike Knight from Ariamis, is there anything that I've missed that makes the V1 easier? We're also playing with the V2 rules and the soul-gain homebrew rule where you take the threat level of the enemy cards, divide them by 2 and add souls equal to number of players. Any help would be appreciated (could also be a skill issue or we're just unlucky)
Looking for a more expansive equipment tier spread sheet than the one from the lore library. I need one with everything on it
I’ve been going through the rulesets and realizing that a bunch of stuff that can be subbed with dice to make them less cumbersome. Soul cache, wounds, dials, poison cloud mechanic, and even tile generation if you are feeling adventurous. Any others I may have missed?
I was thinking of getting one of the new core sets and the darkroot expansion, which core set is best?
I’m under the impression that models, including players can only have 1 of each. Am I correct?
I have these SFG sealed never used Dark Souls board game expansions.I know nothing about them.I am asking if I'd do better to sell them together as a collection or individually. And what would be a fair price either way.Thank for any honest insight as to what I should do with them.I only have the expansions not the actual game Phantoms expansions Iron keep expansions, Vordt of the Boreal Valley expansions, Character expansions, Explorers expansions, and Basin and Iron keep tile set.
Is there an already available outlet to get the PnP cards from a print on demand service? My first go-to was TGC but they have a policy against copyrighted material even for personal use. Of if there’s a site offering the set piece meal. Looked on Ebay but no dice
Hi can somebody provide me with the measurements for the event cards, I am trying to make some event cards.
On the side note is any interested in buying the encounter cards for sunless city ? For people with the original game.
Hello undead.
For my Custom Campaign, i need to increase the difficuilty of bosses and enemies. My group finished the 1st half and has high tier equip from the base game.
However, the game goes on, and the bosses must get harder, too. So will their equip, of course.
But my question now is, without any buffs, what is the average roll for attacking using max tier equip? I don't have access to my stuff right now, and kinda need those numbers to start somewhere.
Greetings!
I'm about to get the core set mentioned in the title. Are the expansions compatible with it? I've heard about some rules were re-written between the original and the smaller core sets.
Thank you in advance!
Title.
Any good online shops?
Pardon the poor photo, but we are starting a new campaign! Most of the minis are even painted!
