DSU asking Collegeboard ID PASS

So I recently applied to DSU and they are asking for the verification of my SAT score. For this, they are asking my CB id pass or to send official scores. I don't want to spend money on sending scores but neither I want to give my id pass. Is it safe to give id pass to DSU ?

Recent PhD CD program experience

There are many older reviews, but I was interested in hearing what folks who are currently in the program feel about it. Also, I've read someone mention they made a lot of changes in the program since they finished.

How is the quality of the coursework? How is working with your advisor on research? Are there good publishing opportunities on the way to the dissertation?

I'm currently enrolled in GATechs online MS in Cybersecurity and wondering if I should just take my chances and apply to the PhD directly before finishing. This might save some time to complete since they don't accept all transfer credits and I'd still need to do more coursework at DSU.

Which dorm or housing is pretty good?

Hello everyone, I almost done with my associates at my college. I been deciding maybe going over south Dakota to finish my bachelors and stay in one of the dorms. Which dorms is probably quiet and chill to hang out with people. I like to know your people's stories of the dorms. I would fly over but classes are in the way right now.

What's the Online Computer Information Systems (BS) like?

Hi!

I'm currently looking into DSU's online Computer Information Systems (BS) and I'm wondering if anyone here is either working through it or has completed it can tell me about it (i.e. do you feel like what you are learning/what you learned is applicable to your desired or current career, are/were the courses good quality, internship opportunities, total tuition costs, etc.)

Thank you all in advance for your help!

DSU Alumni going back to school for BSCS or BSCO

Hey everyone,

I graduated previously from the MSCD program. I've been working in the technology world since 2019. While I learned a ton in the MSCD, I felt like there was a lot of stuff I never learned about foundational computer science concepts.

So, my thought was to go back and tackle the hard low level stuff in the hopes it will enable me to be an even better infosec practitioner. Just got accepted to the BSCS, but one of the faculty advised me to consider the BSCO. Said there's a lot of CS related course work there, has a lot less math, and either undergrad program will be accepted as a pre-requisite to the MSCS should I choose to do that down the line.

So right now I'm kind of on the fence, would love to hear folks currently or recently graduated from either program on the pros and cons.

Hey y’all im lookin to enroll into the Cyber Operations and was wondering if there’s a subreddit for that degree or discord channel dedicated to the degree. Just wanted to gain some insight on the program from students/fellow veterans who are currently in the program or alumni. Feel free to reply here or DM. Thanks y’all.

Are the online classes synchronous?

Considering applying to the MS in Computer Science, but was wondering if I'd be required to attend lectures for the courses or if I'd be able to watch recordings/read the book. I work a very irregular schedule and travel for work, so I'm definitely going to miss some classes if I'm required to attend live.

Edit: Contacted admissions and confirmed that classes are asynchronous and you don't need to attend live lectures.

Good idea to continue here from Montana

Heya 👋

I am from Montana tech and almost done getting my associates. However I decided to continue to another college for my bachelors in comp. networking and cybersecurity.

I just want to ask what’s it like in Dakota state university? I went into the CCDC competition and saw the team gone first in our regionals.

Post Bacc(ish) Computer Science?

Know of anyone doing bachelor's in computer science, but already have a bachelor's in a different major? Looking for post Bacc in computer science and I do not like the OSU curriculum. Curious about DSU opportunities for folks with prior bachelor's (non-STEM). I'm already a SWE for 5 years. Not looking for masters level. Can worry about that later down the road if needed.

Online CSC 748 Time Commitment?

What is the time commitment for CSC 748 online? How many hours per week? Does self-paced mean read content, finish projects, and take exams?

Are there group projects or a delay in when modules in the course are released?

How involved are the online courses in the MSCS, if taking one at a time?

Is 3.0 undergraduate GPA requirement mandatory for applying for DSU doctor program

hi guys, I am considering to apply for the DSU cyber defend doctoral program. However I noticed that the DSU website explicitly requires 3.0+ undergraduate GPA for admission to this program. Unfortunately, I only got 2.7 undergraduate GPA, however, I recently received 3.9 GPA for CS master degree from a local state university. Is that possible for me to get waived by this 3.0 undergraduate GPA requirement? thank you for any suggestion.

Question regarding DSU's PhD program in general IS

Hey all,

I see a lot of cyber information, programs, and questions throughout the boards but nothing much on DSU's PhD IS program. Even those who have asked question about the program, have so far not received much of a response.

I, too, am considering DSU as an online option for a PhD in general IS after I complete my current program which is a third master's degree. Any information about acceptance, the value of the program (either within academia or outside in the industry), or anything else that may be relevant?

Thanks!

PhD IS Coursework Waiver

Hi — I’m thinking of applying to the PhD IS program at DSU. Apart from the 27 masters degree credits, can I transfer any other coursework to waive additional courses? I’m a a PhD student at another U.S. university so I have additional courses to transfer. How many can I waive? I want to have to take as few courses as possible.

Online MSCS Cyber Operations Focus

Hi, all. I have been researching available online MS CS/Cyber programs and really like what I see at DSU.

It seems like I have a lot to catch up on for pre-reqs, but here's my background to shed some light on my further questions.

Undergrad School: Towson University Degree: Bachelor's of Music (Performance Concentration) Year of Graduation: 2008

Occupation: software engineer Years of Experience (engineering): 6

I'm self-taught and work for a very successful company in the cyber industry. I love my job and want to get a traditional education (MSCS with a cyber ops track). Why do I want a masters?

  1. I learn best with structured learning pathways. I need something rigid to keep me on track.
  2. having a degree that validates my years of experience and chosen occupation is important to me.

Given my education and work experience, it seems like I would need to take, at minimum, the GRE. The course site shows other areas that knowledge of needs to be proven. "...Data Structures, Assembly Language, Operating Systems, Language Processing, Programming Languages, Discrete Mathmatics."

I haven't spoken to anyone at DSU about this yet. If any previous or current student fall into my scenario (non-cs undergrad, but swe experience), would you mind sharing your experience with meeting the program admission pre-reqs?

Also, please share your experience in the MSCS Cyber Operations program if you have the time.

This program seems quite good. Thanks!

Computer Game Design Major

I was wondering if anybody has taken or is taking the computer game design major, I want to do game design as a career. I have a lot of experience in programming, I've taken both AP Comp Sci classes at my school. I also took a web development class and I'm going to take a game design class at my high school. I do programming as a hobby kinda on my own time as well. I wanted to know if anybody has gotten a successful career off of the game dev major.

Living near DSU

I am planning on obtaining a staff job at DSU this coming Fall. I need to live close to the campus ideally (at least somewhere in Madison). Can someone give me advice on the apartment landscape in Madison? I would prefer not to have roommates and a studio or 1 bedroom would be ideal.

Thanks.
