Power Supply Questions

Working on a side project and I don't know enough about electronics to know voltage levels and current requirements.

Will these components all work together?

Battery

GSM Module

(Also which of these would be better?)

Microcontroller OR

Microcontroller

Edit: what GPS module would you recommend using for this

DIY NAS build questions

So I’m relatively new ish into my IT career but finally decided it was time to build my own NAS at home to start a more home lab set up. Biggest thing right now is I have a bunch of old 2.5 SSDs and HDDs but I can’t seem to find the proper SATA cables for them. I’d like to save a few drives for a travel NAS but the home station will be anywhere from 6-10. anyone have any recommendations? (Most likely will be built off a raspberrypi 4 or 5 haven’t decided yet)

DIY projector screen

I have recently bought an XGIMI projector, and I am planning on making a screen for it - has anyone made one that isn't made out of a bed sheet as it's blowing everywhere? I was thinking of getting a canvas but don't know if it will be too small.

The dice allows you to emulate two dice rolls. Use Raspberry Pi Pico, a custom PCB from JLCPCB, 14 5mm LEDs, 330-1k Ohm resistors, 3D printed parts, and 3mm screws.

Can I make my own media player?

I see with Jellyfin people can make their own streaming service in their home with TV shows and movies they have on a hard drive, SD card, or thumb drive.

But what I’m looking to do, (and hopefully maybe this is already done, so I can just learn about it) but is to plug something that looks like a fire stick or a raspberry pie into my TV through the HDMI port, and just play Contant I have on an SD card or thumb drive. Just think. “ no Wi-Fi, this guy has a TV, but lives in a cabin with no streaming.”

I know I could probably plug a thumb, drive into the TV, and click through 1000 things and pick a file.

But what I would really like, is to turn on the TV, and have it look like a Netflix, Hulu, prime, streaming service type appearance, but everything just comes from a thumb drive I have.

Does this exist? Anyone have any advice for me? Thank you in advance. Also, this is my first Reddit post so if I did something wrong I’m new here lol.

What can I make with 4 to 5 USB Drives, 256MB each?

I needed a few extra dollars to add to make my limit on "TEMU" to get a discount and now I have 5 - 256MB USB drives. I've saved my bitlocker info for one of my laptops on one of them, but I was wondering what else I could do with the rest of them... I found a few small OS's that might fit on them, but meh, what else is there? Any ideas welcome, thanks. I didn't even check how much memory they had.... I just saw a dollar or two purchase that met the limit so I could get the discount and I just threw it in my cart lol ah well.

Help with Motion Activated Dispenser

Hi! I'm trying to make a motion activated treat dispenser that would activate when it senses something dropped into a tube. I found a button activated one in the link I've included. Any ideas to make it motion activated? Seems like it should be relatively easy but I'm just getting started with diy tech.

samsung s22 - How do I remove the low pass filter on my phone?

Hi! I'm interested in capturing UVA light (315nm - 400nm) but as far as I know a phone camera is set up to only allow light in the range of 380nm to 700nm. The hardware should be able to capture a wider range but the software is limiting. Even if it can't capture the full range of light, how do I go about this?
Thank you <3

Final speaker project

I am a freshman in high school without a job so no expensive stuff and I'm using Arduino for coding and the microcontroller. currently I'm on spring break and don't have access to stuff such as speakers for testing

My plan is to use an Arduino uno (already have) some speakers and some other stuff to make a (semi) portable speaker. (hopefully) I will have a usb-c cable that both charges your phone and pulls audio and a regular aux port for (you know) aux cords. I also want it to be powered via usb but that's kind of extra. A potentiometer to act as a volume slider or knob if I use something similar to this it needn't be ran to the Arduino just to the circuit, if i end up with a standard 3 legged one, I need to bring it to the Arduino and write code to change the speaker outputs accordingly. The actual structure doesn't matter just the (thing?).

So far i have an aux cord having both channels read, put on the serial monitor and returned to a (hypothetical) speaker via pwm pins, The reason for this is because I want a pot as a volume knob, but to do that for both channels i would need two independently controlled pots

updates later but any suggestions are welcome

watchX anybody?

I just discovered watchX (smart watch platform meant to teach coding) after one too many ideas on how to modify my smart watch and no coding experience. I was excited about this opportunity, but then, of course, I found out watchX is dead.

Is there still at least an underground community that keeps it alive? I’d love to bounce ideas and questions off of at least somebody.

If not, is there an alternative to watchX with a larger community I could use to learn these skills from?

Thanks!!!
