A DIY media manager

Started rebuilding my movie library after HDD crash and decided to make a front end for my media library.

https://github.com/txhammer68/blueboxx#blueboxx-media-manager-app

Thought this might be a good place to share it.

Takes a bit of work to make it functional, but works great, lightweight and fast.

GPS device for car dash

I've always wanted to have a simple device that I could attach to my car dashboard that would tell me two things in real time: (a) the town/city and state I am currently driving through, and (b) the elevation in feet of my current location. That's it. I'm envisioning a simple LED screen that could display this information as it's pulled from a GPS located in the device itself. Ideally it would work throughout the United States, where I live.

Does anyone have ideas on where to even start in trying to make something like this? I can't find anything like this available for purchase. And I'm not interested in a phone app, I'd like this to be dedicated hardware that I could leave attached to my car.

Many thanks for any thoughts!

LAN Cable question

I recently got a PS5 that has been working great until the last two days. It won’t let me connect to any Wi-Fi, even my hotspot. I want to try a LAN cable before having it looked at, but there isn’t a outlet for an Ethernet cable in my room. I was wondering if I could get an adapter of some sort?

Old security cam being tossed out by school. Can I use for anything

I'm having an insanely hard time accessing these POE cams for anything. As far as I can tell there's no way to find the IP address.

Would love to give this cam a second live as a bird livestream camera or something but no idea how to even get it to show video. I've hooked it up directly to an ethernet port with a POE injector delivering power, but haven't gotten any farther than that.

Any tips for getting this old thing to work?

Tips on how to download film to iPad

I’m deploying for 3 months with limited WiFi so been told to download films to an external hard drive. I’m not that technically minded so need some help.

I have an iPad to watch them on when I’m deployed and will use the bar drive to access them as files. My question is how do I get a tonne of films on the hard drive. My Mrs has a laptop I can use before I go.

Can I just download loads of Netflix films to this or will that not work? Does anyone have any YouTube vids explaining this or websites I can download films from? Thanks

Portable monitor from old laptop lcd

I harvested this LCD panel from an old laptop and wanted to build an external monitor with it. I looked up boards to make it work and they all come with USB A in, hdmi in and DC power supply in ports. Now for my question: is it possible to make the screen use USB C for power + video signal? Or even just for power with some kind of adapter? Because I wanted to use it with my laptop/phone/tablet and would prefer only bringing a single power brick (like a multi port 140w gan charger I already use for those devices).

Looking to build a remote performance PC system with with numerous access “nodes”

Essentially I am toying with the idea of having a performance computer system located in in a central network closet and then in each room of my small (932 sq feet) square shaped house I could have a wall plate that has essentually a dock built into it with USB C/USB A/maybe an HDMI port built in for good measure.

I could, for example plug in a monitor/TV, keyboard/mouse, etc peripherals and access the system from each room. I could even put a flash drive into a USB slot if I wanted to save a file onto/from the PC. I might not have a system always plugged into every single room, but the wall plate will be there if I need to use it. So essentially seems like a lot of potential data transfer. Wondering if this idea is even close to feasible/practical after accounting for budget. And I'm not really sure what would be the best way to transfer such data over each run (which will vary from 15-30 feet based on the room).

Newbie question: connecting hardware and software

I’m a hardware and software person but self taught so I know them separately. What device could I use to send info from my hardware (ex: amount of current or voltage) to my laptop as a readout?

Built a Full-Room Sunrise Alarm Clock from Recycled TVs

I've always been interested in waking up with the sunrise, but in my room the light normally gets occluded until later in the day. Thought it would be a cool idea to build and hang DIY light screens in my windows and drive the brightness with an Arduino programmed to be synchronous with the sunrise outside. My full write-up and design decisions are posted here!

Completely DIY-React Portfolio, all from scratch!

Hey all, I recently just got done on my several day grind to finish my portfolio website. I used learning React as an excuse to spend a few day lull on remaking my website.

Check it out! tjklint.github.io

I'd love any support or feedback you can give. I tried to follow some sort of pseudo-convention for splitting it up into different components, and also got to work on my SASS and TypeScript skills.

NFC tags for daily paper planning routine

TLDR: I'm trying to come up with creative ways to use NFC tags in my paper planner and want your help.

I came up with the idea of making three separate pages that represent the time of day (morning, midday, and night) and I'd like to add at least one NFC tag per page (hopefully more than one if there's room) but I don't know exactly what the tags should do. I could obviously just have these link to websites that are useful in my planning routine, but I wanted to ask the community to see if anyone had more creative ideas (e.g., the TV could link to the weather app, or the bed could link to my sleep tracker, etc). Does anyone have any clever ideas and, especially, does anyone know how to actually implement these ideas as I am completely new to using NFC tags and have only the very basic basic knowledge of how to use them. Feeling creative and willing to learn! :)

Here's a pic of the pages for reference:

Allow edits online

Silly question I’m a little behind in the tech world. I received a form to fill out via email. How can I change that form to allow me to type in the answers online rather than print and complete it by pen. Hoping for answers that include the word free. Thank you, everyone.

Anyone mount a Qi2 charger under their desk?

I know there are many poplar videos of people mount wireless chargers inlaid into wood desks but I wondering about Qi2. Does it have a better range?

I also can't seem to find just the bare coil for sale for Qi2.

Do you have some project ideas ?

Hi, I’m an 18-year-old student looking to create a technical project for a student competition in my country. I’m interested in using Arduino or Raspberry Pi, along with 3D printing, to develop something innovative that can help people. I’m particularly thinking about a project in the healthcare field. I’m currently brainstorming ideas and would be grateful for any suggestions!

Best device to display electronic calendar

I'm looking for a device to manage and display an electronic family calendar.

I was thinking something like the skyelite calendar with google calendar but hopefully a lower price point.

Are any of the Amazon echo show devices good for this? Ideally I'd love to have the month visible on the screen.

Looking for suggestions
