Advice on a Hardware Mod

So, I'm building a custom Cyberdeck and intend to have a Sphero bolt as a "drone" or recon device. I was wondering if anyone has tried adding an ESP32 camera module inside the case? Will it fit? Does it throw stability off to where it's un-usable? I would appreciate any advice and help.

Help with components for a home-made wireless+wired usbC charger

Hi there,

I tried to post this with the correct links, but the post gets deleted - I believe Reddit thinks the links are affiliate. So now I have copied images and relative information directly in the post, I hope it works.

I am designing my own desk charger stand. I am currently using a wireless charger from Aliexpress. It is supposed to be 65W but I doubt. Works fine for my Galaxy S22Plus though.

I want to have the option to charge another device while wireless charging my phone. I was thinking of using this module. Here is a bit of detail from Aliexpress:

Power supply method: Use a charger with a fast charging protocol or a power bank TYPE-C interface for power supply
Output mode: fixed 9/12/15/20V four gears
Output current: Maximum support of 5A, actual output current/power determined by charger and load
Precautions:

  1. Fixed 9/12/15/20V four gears, what voltage is needed, just short circuit the corresponding solder pads.
  2. For example, if you set a trap of 20 volts, but your charger only has a maximum of 9 volts, it will automatically downshift to trap the output of 9 volts.
  3. The maximum support is 5A, and the actual output current/power is determined by your fast charging charger and load.
  4. Mobile phone chargers must first support fast charging such as PD/QC in order to trick out voltage.

My idea is to solder the 20W pad on the module, stick it to the back of the desk charger. This will be the input where I connect the wall charger.

On the output of this module, I solder 2 of these usb ports. One will go to the wireless charger (I don't want to cut the usb side just yet) and the other goes on the back, to charge an external device.

Questions:

  • Does it all fly?
  • Will this system have enough power to charge wirelessly and also charge an external demanding device? This is ofc assuming I use a discreet wall charger
  • Are these components going to get very hot? The desk station will be made of plastic. As a reference, the wireless charger I currently use gets less than lukewarm when charging.

Thanks for your help!

Mini Dual Screen Portable Monitor

Hello I was looking for some direction for building a dual screen portable monitor.

My inspiration is the Microsoft Surface Duo. I love the form factor. I'm aiming for a pocketable(ish) size device the can fold out into something larger. Two screens, one cable to make work on the go easier.

I've seen smaller screens on the market and considered trying to combine them together into a book-style housing.but I'm not sure how to go about connecting both monitors to one output.

Any advice or similar projects you folks can point me towards for inspiration?

DIY digital photo frame

I'd like to have two small 7" touchscreens side-by-side housed in a CNC routed wood frame. Is there any way to have one computer or module controlling the slide shows on both screens? I'm pretty sure that's no.

So I was thinking 2 Raspberri Pis hooked to to 7" screens. The only problem is most of these cheap screens have hdmi on the side - so would that prevent them from existing side-by-side? Any advice appreciated!

Here's what I'm thinking:

Bluetooth transmitter for game controller?

Hey guys! I'm kinda new to DIY tech but I'm wanting to make my own guitar controller for clone hero. I've seen a lot of tutorials online, but they're all for wired guitars and I'd like to add Bluetooth to mine for wireless play. What kind of transmitter would I need to send signal from a zero delay board (see link for exact one) to the PC?

Gadget tech help. Timed clamp type thing.

Figured it's worth a shot asking here. I have a Polaroid camera. The instax mini 12 or whatever. Would anyone know how to rig a self timer clamp thing. Haha something that would count down and physically press the shutter button. (Or if this is a thing where to buy it haha)

What supplies would you need to create a basic display?

Heya y'all! Wanna create a cosplay object with some tech, so I wanted to check in with DIY tech since I'm no expert! intended to be an at least 2-toned display (think: something similar to an old school gameboy green with a darker color to do faces) and I want to have 3 alternate faces with a separate button for each one, all fitted within a plastic shell, what would I need to accomplish this and how would you recommend I code the faces?

(I know I could probably pay someone to do this for me- but I wanna make this myself if I can! Thanks for any help, feel free to bother me for more info!)

Used CAD and 3D printer for DIY fix of light cover clasps

I recently used CAD and 3D printing to replace the clasps on a closet light cover. It was a real learning experience. I've never done something like this, so I decided to make this short video to outline the steps.

Asus ROG Strix G731GU Diver Board Help

My Asus ROG Strix has died (GPU and CPU dead). I have replaced the laptop and now I want to use some of the parts, especially the screen.

The problem is that the screen is VERY glued to the lid of the laptop, and I can't separate them without damaging the screen. I need to see that back of the screen to find the model number and get the correct Driver Board to use the screen as a portable monitor.

Any ideas, tips or info would be appreciated. Not sure if anyone else has tried this successfully.

I am looking for a "cable" that can extend this plug. Are they Custom made for SmartPhones, or are they freely available on the market? (i actually need another one as well, with a smaller plug, but if i find this one, i'll proly find the other one)

For those wanting to know, i am doing a miniture PipBoy.
If i find a good solution to this (should be small) problem, i will post my full project here as well.
3d print Design and all.

Vacuum or Pushing Force, which will generate a parabola shape?

you have a thin plastic film (that can be stretched) and want to make it produce a parabola (not catenary or any other shape). you clamp the film with a circular vice, in one case you create a seal and pull out some air from one side of the film (vacuum) thereby making the film get pulled to one side. in the other case you apply a pushing force in the center of the film which pushes the film downwards. I made 3D model illustrations to help visualize the 2 scenarios. which one will yield a Parabolic shape more (I understand that it probably wont create a perfect Parabola but which one would approximate a parabola more). The red in the image is the thin plastic film. on the left is the vacuum example and on the right is the force being applied in the center of the film example.

Fridge was off for about 4 weeks. Makes Buzzes upon start. Its the fridge in my new Appartment. I wasn't able to test ist for longer than a couple of minutes. How propable is it for the noise to just dissapear? If IT doesn't, what could it be and what could be done about it?

Coilgun

Hey everyone, I’d like to make a coilgun but I don’t have much experience with things like that. I own a 3d printer and arduino. Is it possible to make it fairly cheap and powerful? Something around 25$ or less if possible What parts would I need and how would I make it work?

I have a question for those of you good at engineering. About making an electric push cart.

Bafang has an electric wheel barrow motor. It's got a lot of torque and runs at low speed.

I'm wanting to make a cart I push that is electric. I was thinking of pulling it with a bicycle but I think it would struggle to pull the weight. Especially up hill.

The nice thing about a wheel barrow is you don't need a complicated steering mechanism.

The cart itself would be 4' wide by 8' long. 3' high. Weight? Maybe around 250 pounds.

Would it have any advantage to reverse the design? Meaning I am in front holding the handles and the wheel is in back.

Here is a video of the motor wheel.

https://youtu.be/WFv62Y8isO4?si=VtRMX-9KAQA5iiJC

I'm wanting to make something similar to this.

Thanks for your help.
