Are there any regular crits?

Before COVID there used to be a regular Wednesday night crit that happened around this time of year. Does anyone know if there is still anything like that around?

Cottonwood Creek Trail - Been a while since the last post about it. Anyone have any run-ins lately?

I moved recently and have ridden it a couple times now because I'm super close to where it starts at Spring Valley. I'm not sure if I've ever been on that trail before - I used to go around White Rock then branch off to the northwest into north Dallas/Addison, but that was probably White Rock Creek trail.

Because of where I enter, I pretty much ride the whole thing (unless I'm mistaken on where it starts and ends). I exit behind the Conn's and ride Manderville down to Meadow Rd where I turn around and go back, or meander in other areas for a bit.

Anyway, after my first ride, I decided I was absolutely not going to ride that trail at night.

I'm not spooked by much, but I did not get a good feeling riding that trail the first time, and it was the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday. The second two times I knew what to expect so I wasn't as on-edge as the first time, but still, it doesn't feel super safe, and I'm considering carrying pepper spray just in case. I've seen a few other riders on the trail every time which was nice.

Edit: Homeless people are fine if they're just sitting there hanging out, that doesn't bother me, it's the people actively doing/dealing drugs I'm concerned about.

Google Maps Fixing

How do people update Google maps concerning bike routing that just doesn't work? For example, Peavy Rd near Bryan Adams HS? I like to try different routes to different places, and roads like that where Google is very clueless about the way traffic actually works there really screws up planning.

Updates to the Dallas Bike Plan?

link below:

https://dallascityhall.com/departments/transportation/bikeway/Pages/Bike-Plan-Update.aspx

The "bike department" has been silent for nearly 2 years....

The "timeline" on the webpage is from 2022. And they don't have a social media page either to share updates with anyone. It's kind of crazy—there's no way to advocate or organize or compel anyone through this department for information or transparency. Anyone know what's going on?

Bicycle Day - April 19th

Probably unlikely but does anyone know if there's any group celebrating or doing something for it?

Or if someone wants to go for a ride along the trinity in FW let me know.

Visitor looking for ride Rec’s!

Any group rides in DFW area?

Hi there,

A roadie here! I will be visiting Dallas Ft Worth area for work in a week or so. I’ve never been to TX and all I was told by the local coworkers were riding bikes there is like suicides. So I’m definitely a bit timid by that. But would love to know if there is any group rides in this area that’s worth checking out! Totally fine with drop rides or non drop rides!

Love to ride and meet new riders!

On another note, I’m trying to get one of my best friend to start cycling. He lives in that area and I was thinking maybe if there is a good mtb clinic I could take him on, I will have a better chance of converting him instead of road riding. Any suggestions welcome!

Thank you so much in advance!

Any recommendations for road routes north of Dallas (anywhere between ~Richardson and ~Flower Mound)

Hey there, I'm visiting for the weekend and would love to do a 40-45 mile road ride. I see that there are some maps listed in the sidebar, but are there any well-known rides that're worth doing while in this neck of the woods? Thanks all!

Biking near Kennedale

A bit about me:
I have recently moved to DFW. I live south of 20 and west of 287 in Kennedale. I used to do lot of biking few years ago(mostly road biking and occasionally mountain) which I am dying to get back to.

Now to my question:

I have not seen any biking on the roads since I moved here(I see lot of bikes parked in my neighborhood, I wonder where they use them :D) The way people drive their cars and lack of bike lanes probably explain it. I am wondering if there are any bike trails/paths in this region. I am willing to drive if that will be needed-Under an hour would be ideal as that will make sure I will be motivated to bike often.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as the urge to bike is getting too much!

Update: Thank you all for the suggestions! Bought a bike and other gear over the weekend and am looking to hit the Gateway trial this week.

Broken glass under River Oaks bridge

Just a heads up. The trolls that drink / sleep under River Oaks seem to have tossed their bottles down onto the trail. I flatted today with a huge glass shard that ruined my tire. BEWARE the Ides of March!

Weekly group rides in Fort Worth?

Hello everyone! I'm a 24-year-old intermediate cyclist, consistently riding at a pace of 18+ mph. I just moved to Forth Worth, and I've been on the lookout for a weekly road cycling group but haven't had any luck finding one yet. Most of the groups I found are in the Dallas area, so it's a bit difficult to commute to those rides during the weekdays. I'm interested in joining a group around my age, but I'm open to riding with cyclists of all ages. I read a similar post here, but I was wondering if I could get some more help.

With that being said, I would like to see if there are any groups that I could just start riding with. I want to start training to eventually participate in races in the future, so I'm looking for a group that can push me to improve my skills and endurance! Ideally, I'd like to ride around 15-30 miles on weekdays and do longer rides on the weekends, but I'm open to anything. If you know of any groups or would like to start one, please let me know. I'm eager to connect with fellow cyclists and explore new routes together, thank you!

Carbon Frame repair in DFW

Anybody know of a reliable carbon frame repair service local to DFW? Bike fell over and now there's a 1 inch gash in the top tube and I'm exploring the repair route before deciding to buy a new frame.

Hotter Than Hell 100 Training

Hi everyone! I just signed up for the Hotter Than Hell 100 mile ride this August, and I wanted to see if anyone had a training plan that they would recommend for it. I’ve never done a century ride and the distance is obviously intimidating, so I wanted to see if anyone had a decent training plan or even any training tips that could help me prepare.

I’m a 27 year old male, and my most recent long ride was about 35 miles that I did in around 3 hours. The trail that I was on was hilly and it was very windy. I’m hoping to break sub 7 hours in August. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

"Flowiest" Trails?

Good morning! I'll be in the Plano area this weekend and have time open Saturday to ride for 4-5 hours. Any recommendations for "flowy" MTB trails in the area? Have been researching online and there are a TON of trail options. Coming from an area in SE Texas that only has tight, twisty trails so am really hoping to ride something that offers flow...if that exists :)

Road Rides in DFW

Morning,

I am travelling from the UK to DFW, staying around Olive St. Any road rides people recommend or group rides that would host a Brit on Sunday 4th Feb?

New here, is the bike scene rad or developing?

Do ya'll stay in when it gets too hot for about 3 months in the summer like I do but the opposite? (When it gets cold up here in Delaware and stay home for 3 months )

Is the DORBA app updated often/accurate

Off work today, got up relatively early to take MTB out to some trails and the DORBA app said basically anything within 30 miles of my location was all closed (Oak Cliff was open but live in FW and work in that area, so didn't feel like making the same commute drive). I understand things are closed due to mud but it hasn't really rained that much lately.

Gravel Cycling in Dallas

I keep being curious about gravel cycling, and had a few questions.

1.) I have a mountain bike (a hard tail Ghost Tawana) and a road bike (Trek Domane SL5), but no gravel bike. I’ve taken my mountain bike down to the Trinity Levee trails, and it was ok but reading online about gravel bikes, i know that’s not an ideal solution. Curious if I could just swap out the tires on my Trek Domane and that may be a better solution? Buying a third bike seems excessive, and we don’t have any place to store it to be honest.

2.) Beyond the Trinity Levee trails, where else in the DFW metroplex is a good spot to gravel bike? I know some people ride on country roads, I’m always worried about being hit by some yahoo in the middle of nowhere though (I’ve already been screamed out riding on roads), and frankly i wouldn’t even know which country roads would be good to ride on. For those people who do gravel bike, where do ya’ll go?

Bike Rental - Near Downtown

Hey all, hope I didn't miss this in the history but my spouse and I are staying in Bishop Arts and plan on getting around mostly by bike. Looking to rent gravel bikes that can serve us well for longer city rides. Anyone have any recommendations near downtown that would work? Thanks! Looking forward to getting riding some miles in your city!

Bike lock recommendations?

I was considering getting a Litelock X1 but I I haven't seen a lot of places in DFW where a u-lock would really work as the primary bike lock?
