Include everybody. Anyone with any amount of texture in their hair is welcome here. Passing judgment on whether someone else’s hair is “curly enough” is neither useful nor productive for our common goal of bringing out the best in our hair. Please also remember that terms like “afro” and “big chop” have a long and complex history within the natural hair movement for black women (see wiki). To keep our community welcoming, it’s important that we respect these words and use them appropriately.

Respect cultural terms The natural hair movement has a long history and the words created in it have meanings. It’s important to respect where these words, techniques, and more came from, and celebrate the importance of the work done by these early pioneers. Please be aware of terms such as “big chop”, “afro”, “natural hair journey”. Be thoughtful and respectful about using these powerful terms appropriately!

My hair is waist length coily and it's getting really frizzy and dull lately does anyone have any scalp detox or hair gloss recommendations??
2 weeks
I have curly hair (3-b) and have never used a diffuser does it make a big difference?
Aye aye aye, this frizz is driving me nuts. Right now I use aussie shampoo and conditioner, brush it out wet, and let it air dry. I was recommended curl cream which I haven't gotten my hands on yet, but other than that, if anyone has any suggestions to help get the waves/curls more defined and less frizzy it'd be much appreciated!
Does the curly hair community say no dry brushing solely because it pulls the curls out and causes frizz and poof? Or is it also damaging in some way? On non-curly-hair sites, they say to only brush your hair when it's dry, because wet is its most fragile state. Which is healthier for your hair, or does it only depend on what look you're going for?
My dad has curly hair (really really curly hair) and my mom's is almost stick straight. Mine's is less curly than my dad's, but it's still significantly wavier than my mom's (2c-3a). For most of my dad's life, his hair was short (he's growing it out now, it's as long as mine), and my mom's the one who taught me to take care of my hair, but she never researched how to deal with curly hair, so mine was pretty damaged, like extra frizz, a lot of breakage, etc. I just accepted it as a fact of life, until my cousin had her curly hair revolution and I realized my hair was actually wavy.
I'm not sure how to care for it or what products to use. I'm planning on cutting it short soon, and I am completely overwhelmed. Help me?
hair info: low porosity fine medium density
products used: Not Your Mother's Natural's Tahitian Gardenia Flower and Mango Butter, Curl Definition shampoo and conditioner Carol's Daughter Leave-In Conditioner, Hydrating, Black Vanilla Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Mousse, Curl Boosting, Strong 3
routine: wash hair, massaging gently into scalp with finger pads. rinse. condition with head upside down, generously coating hair until slick and "squelching" when squeezed. detangle with fingers & brush out tangles with wide tooth comb. re-wet hair and apply more conditioner if needed. wash body to let conditioner sit before wetting hair again and squeezing out extra water in chunks. repeat putting head under shower head and squeezing out excess water until the conditioner is completely out. microplop with microfiber towel and then plop with a t-shirt for 15-20 minutes. gently take hair out of plop and spray leave in over hair, and scrunch into hair using extra water as needed. apply mousse generously, using extra water if needed and scrunch. begin diffusing on low heat. i hover diffused, starting at my roots and then pixie diffused. scrunch out the crunch when hair is dry.
I been wanting to know for a long time and if yall don’t mind is there any products do yall recommend because my hair is obviously damaged
I’ve been on my curly hair journey for about 4 years now after straightening it my entire life. I love my curls so much but my hair type is very much low porosity and my ends get excruciatingly dry after around 3 days. It makes my hair break, I get tons of split ends, and it’s a frizzy mess. I’ve tried everything you could think of and every method. I’m starting to feel like my hair was a lot healthier when I was straightening it. I also wash my hair around once or twice a week… will washing it more help? I don’t get an oily scalp. Just horribly dry ends.
So, I have been on my curly journey for a while now after years of blowdrying my hair from insecurities. The first two pictures are from today, 2nd wash with my current routine (see below). I think I made them frizzy using a 100% cotton towel to plop (couldn't find my microfiber towel :( ), but I'm frustrated with how my top layer of hair looks. I used the bowl method with my curl cream and leave-in conditioner, a generous mousse-gel, finger-coiled the top layer, and then diffused it on medium heat on the lowest setting.
The third picture is me doing CGM but without gel. I was also between shampoos/conditioners (here I used Redken). I used the same leave-in conditioner, JVN air dry cream, and then VELLA mousse (not a lot though). It was SO greasy on day 2.
I am scared of gel if it's not obvious lol!!
If I had to describe my hair (I could be wrong), I think it may be low porosity. It takes a few couple of seconds to fully soak my hair and certain products just make it so weighed down and greasy.
I am trying to reverse my thinning and I think this shampoo and conditioner are great for it. I also need to take vitamins, I just keep forgetting lol. I think I may be overdoing it with amount of products, but I have no idea at this point. Also, the frizz is awful.
Also, should I bite the bullet and get a curly cut to fix my top layer? I have very clunky side bangs and they are irritating the hell out of me. I tend to wear my hair either all to the side, up with claw clips, or in the last 2 pictures. Let me know what cuts you think will suit me!
(Pic 1 and 2) Routine:
Any advice is greatly appreciated, please let me know if anyone needs any clarification! I just want to fall in love with my curls again :(
Scared to get a cut but a good idea would help me.
When my curls were shorter they responded much better with products only had to just rank a leave in and gel in and it was defined and hydrated this was when they were only 2 to 3 inches. Now my curls are around 4 to 5 inches and this method doesn’t work anymore my curls look undefined and frizzy only method that works for me now is finger coiling but this takes me at least an hour to do it which is to long for me. I’d appreciate any tips please.
