Girls trip recommendations

Hi! My friend and I are looking at vacationing to Curaçao sometime in January! we are in our 30s and like to party and stay out late, but also want to relax on some nice beaches. Maybe also see some historical/cultural sites during the day. Would Curaçao be a good option? And what parts would fit the bill while also being relatively safe for two women? Our other considerations were Belize and Panama.

Transgender ftm access to HRT?

Family was considering potentially moving to Curaçao, but one thing I can't find any information on one way or another is if HRT is available for ftm transgender individuals(testosterone). I found it for menopause, but that's a different form of use and none of the LGBT organizations provide any information.

If anyone knows if it's available (or who to contact), please let me know! Thank you 🙂

Family Trip in January

Hi!! Our family is looking to head to Curacao early January/end of Dec. I have seen posts about lots of good hotels, but I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for airbnb type stay? We have 4 adults and 2 kids (15&6). We would like 3-4 bedrooms, 4 beds minimum. Hoping for something reasonably priced. We would like to hang out on a nice beach, go to locally owned/authentic cuisine restaurants, snorkel, boat ride, maybe also the aquarium. We'd like most things to be in walking distance or a quick bus ride (do they have local transit?). We prefer not to rent a car if possible. I loooove walking new cities. Also want to buy a few groceries so we aren't eating out every single meal.

Coming in a few weeks, serious question concerning food.

Okay, maybe not actually serious but we love food and I really want to make sure I pick great spots to go each day. It’s also a birthday so I really want to pick an amazing spot out for a nice birthday dinner. (Which one should that be) We will be there for 7 days and love places from hole in the wall to fine dining. So I have a few questions. Is my list that I have below any good? Which ones am I missing? Which ones should I take off? Please help with more lunch and breakfast spots! These are a few I have my eye on: Kome Cana Resturant X Sal the Kitchen Sea side terrace Des visseris Hofi Cas Cora Fort Nassau Marsha Nobu

Any help will be appreciated, I think I got the beaches and sights to see somewhat down but any help in that front would be great too.

entrance requirements for children?

Hi Everyone!

We have purchased our plane tickets and will be headed to Curacao in March of 2025. I was just reading on the Canada website for advise for travel to Curacao: https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/curacao?CountryDropDown1%24ddlCountries=gabon

They seem to have a lot of requirements for bringing kids into the country. Has anyone brought kids before? What all do I need to do? Were you even asked to produce documents as listed? Did you get your birth certificates and marriage license Apostille-d? This is also mentioned on the Curaco immigration website: https://immigrationcur.org/en/dep/reizen-met-minderjarigen/

Any advise is welcomed! :) Thank you!

Activities before late flight

Hi everyone!

I'll be visiting Curaçao In December. My flight home leaves at 21:00 so I was wondering if anyone has some good ideas to do before my flight.

Some things to consider:

- I do have a rental car till max. 17:30.

- I need to store my luggage somewhere. Was looking for luggage storage companies, but they don't seem to have them in Willemstad?

- It would be nice to be able to shower OR do an activity that doesn't require too much sweating.

My own idea was to get a day pass to one of the beach resorts and ask the reception if I can store my luggage, and hopefully take a shower before my flight. And take a taxi to the airport from there. Does anyone know which resort would be best for this?

Or do you have any other suggestions? Appreciate any advice/tips/ideas!!

Passport from USA question on a trip, with expiration 8 months from that date?

Does anyone know if everything is as it says on the website, that the passport must just not be older than 10 years (that would mean expired with the usa one), i thought i had read to not go unless it was more than a year from expiring?

Anyone have any recent experiences, i assume this will be fine if i wait till after (trip early feb, expires late oct), in theory an online renewal would be back within 8 weeks, but its starting to get too close.

Snorkel gear rental

Hey guys!

My husband and I will be staying in Playa Lagun 11/9-12 and then Blue Bay from 11/12-15.

We are debating between trying to haul snorkeling gear with us in our luggage (we will just have carryon) or if it is easy and cheap enough to find a rental on both of those beaches? I see dive shops but they mostly seem to advertise just their tour prices and not just gear rental etc.

Any tips or guidance is appreciated!

Airbnb host requesting $250USD deposit in cash on arrival. Is this allowed?

From what I've read it sounds like it's not allowed, but I also hear this is pretty standard on the island. Anyone have experience with this? At least one review of our place said they had no issue getting the deposit back but it's still a little sketchy handing a wad of cash that I doubt I'll get a receipt for.

I found this post from 6 years ago, but there wasn't really any resolutions there so I'm curious what the recent consensus is: https://www.reddit.com/r/curacao/comments/bjvtt5/question_about_airbnbs_in_curacao/

Thanks all!

JFK to CUR typical airfare?

For anyone that’s flown from the New York area nonstop In the last couple years - could you share what the typical airfare is during winter months from New York to Curaçao. Not during a peek week like presidents or Christmas but just a random week in March or February? Right now it’s showing around $500. I was wondering if I would but expect it to go up/down or stay about that? Thanks!

Cost of living in Curaçao / Aruba.

Hi all.

Single guy here.

I was wondering what the cost of living is over there? I'd like to live 3 to 6 months in either Curaçao or the other Dutch Antilles, in non touristic areas. I work remotely, and I would love to experience going to the beach year round, do lots of diving / spear fishing, etc (is the water generally clear year-round?).

What would be the minimum to get by in terms of rent, utilities, groceries, etc? Would probably also need (an old) car to get around.

Thanks!

Places to eat with kids?

Our family is travelling to Curaçao next March, our boys are 10 and 12 and eat like, well, 10 and 12 year old boys! I'm an adventurous eater, my wife a little bit but the kids not as much. Think chicken, pork, deep fried fish, french fries and vegetables only when Mom and Dad force them. Are there any recommendations for places to feed a these little monsters? And for my wife and I, any recommendations for good coffee spots?

We do plan on making some food in our rental, but will likely eat our once or twice a day.

Car rental near Mathey Wharf?

Hi, I'm taking a cruise in December that will end in Curacao. I'd like to rent a car and spend a few days there.

My cruise company says they're dropping us off at Mathey Wharf and I can't seem to find a car rental place there. I can find them at Mega Cruise Terminal but that's a 15-minute walk with luggage. Any ideas?

Avila beach hotel - drinks on the beach?

Heya! I love sitting out in the sun and having a few drinks on the beach. I assume they only allow you to order from them? We can't bring a Yeti along to the Avila Beach right? I would be staying as an overnight guest.

Visiting in mid-May

Curious if anyone can share advice on weather in mid-May. Would there be any difference in water conditions, for example more choppy or less clear of water?

Additionally, is mid-May known to be a time when people visit in masses? Any known holidays or time when kids are out of school and families are on vacation there?

I tried searching through the page for other people visiting at this time but found mostly advice around September-December. Thanks!

Deepwell

Bon dia! I live in Curacao and I want to have a hole for a deepwell drilled on our property. I don't need the windmill built, just a hole where I can place a manual hand pump over, or lower a hose and pump up the water with a electric pump.

Anyone know what this might cost me?

Thanks in advance!

Do US travelers need cash to show for travel expenses and the yellow fever vaccine?

Just trying to cover all my bases here!

I see online the entrance requirements are that we need 150 dollars per person per day of stay. How do we show that? Do we need to have cash to show?

I don’t think US travelers need the yellow fever vaccine to get into curaçao, but do we need to vaccine to get back into the US since curaçao is deemed a yellow fever zone?

Warning - RACIST

Hello fellow tourists and travelers - just a public service announcement that if you see this man steer clear especially if you are a person of color. He verbally assaulted my partner and I - and asked if we can read English (we are visibly brown and speak English fluently as a first language). He says he isn't racist because he's English and proceeded to harrass us until we had to say some not nice things to try and get him to leave.

Itinerary Feedback [Eng]

Greetings,

My family of four with two children under 10 will be visiting your lovely island for almost a week after Christmas. I've done a good bit of research and have an itinerary planned, but would love some feedback. We are arriving the Friday after Christmas and departing in the late afternoon on New Year's Day. If any one can offer any additional tips or guidance on this plan, I'd greatly appreciate it.

  • Friday 27.12
  • Arrive afternoon
  • Pick up rental car
  • Head to resort (Kunuku)
  • Stay at resort after travel.
  • Saturday, 28.12
  • Early breakfast at resort
  • Sint Willibrordus salt pans or St. Michiel for flamingos
  • Playa Piskado for sea turtles
  • Willemstad - floating market, HeerenStraat and Gomezplein, Handelskade, Scarloo District, Lunch at Plaza Bieu, Museum of Natural History, driving tour of Scarloo District
  • Resort in afternoon/evening
  • Sunday, 29.12
  • Breakfast at resort
  • Playa Porto Mari - Snorkeling, Nature Trail, Beach
  • Afternoon and evening at resort
  • Monday, 30.12
  • Breakfast at resort
  • Playas Knip - Snorkeling and beach at both locations
  • Resort in afternoon/evening
  • Tuesday, 31.12 - New Year's Eve
  • Breakfast at resort
  • Cas Abao - Snorkeling and beach
  • New Year's Eve celebrations at resort
  • Wednesday, 01.01 - New Year's Day
  • Last morning at resort, last chances to do anything we feel we missed, including final attempts to see parakeets, flamingos, etc.
  • Return rental car
  • Depart late afternoon

Some notes:

  • I've scheduled the beaches to try to avoid crowds as best as possible, but that said, I know it's high season and the holidays, so that may not happen.
  • Our kids are 6 and almost 9, so almost any of the paid diving activities are not an option for them. I really wanted to try the Seaworld Explorer Semi-Sub, but it only seems to run at 10am on Fridays, so we'll miss it.
  • We've recently done an aquarium locally here in the US and on our last Caribbean trip to Jamaica, we did a dolphin experience, so I don't think we want to go to the Aquarium.
  • We have a strong preference for experiencing natural environments, so for example the less developed Knip beaches are more interesting to us than places like Mambo Beach.
