My great grandmother was named Margarita Prado and she was married to Mamerto Lopez. She was born circa 1900, give or take a few years. She was from Almeria, Andalusia, Spain and immigrated to Colon, Matanzas, Cuba where she lived. She worked on a farm. She passed away in La Habana, Cuba. I'm hoping to get more information on her parents if possible.

Hi everyone! If you have had interesting discoveries or roadblocks, share them here!
Hi. I'm a new member, borned in Cuba. For few years I've been doing research on my own genealogy, and later on the genealogy of some towns in the old Havana Province. I'm happy to help anyone who needs it, no matter where in Cuba his/her ancestors were from. Here are some GedMatch numbers of members of my family who have had a DNA test through Ancestry and / or 23andme.

I randomly stumbled upon this sub that oddly applied to me. I’m Uruguayan and I was always told that my ancestors primarily were from Spain, but a 23&Me said that I was primarily Cuban. I was born in the US, but my mother was born in Montevideo, and her side of the family has been in Uruguay for a very long time.

Wow! Ancestry has improved from telling us what regions we are from to entire countries! Your expectations and thoughts will change.
My biggest surprise was my grandmother getting over 50% Portuguese... more than her Spanish genes.
I came out with an unexpected 11% French which wasn’t represented in my original results.
What do you think of the update?? Anything interesting or surprises?
