My crawfish just melted and is extremely hungry, I normally feed it worms. Is there a better food option that I can feed my crawfish with?
I’m new here and would like to introduce my wild caught virile crayfish. Her name is Dr. Stangalang and she loves digging and climbing. She eats from my hand and she’s pretty awesome. I’ve had her since August and she’s molted 3 times. Here she is chowing down on some boiled okra.
My crayfish molted and his old claws are stuck to his new claws and cant get his new claws out of his old exoskeleton claws
Since my lovely blue cray suffered a fatal bad molt in June, I rescued these 2 from a bait shop… both were tiny at the time… the largest of the two was only about an inch when I got them…. In the three months that I’ve had them they have both grown tremendously. I believe both to be female but have not checked recently so one or both could be mail as they were very tiny when I first got them and it’s sometimes hard to tell when they’re really tiny.
My crayfish has had eggs a few times, all infertile. She’s even molted three times since I got her, but these eggs looks really different. Black in color, and in a weird goo sack type thing. Is this normal or what’s going on?
Skrimp’s been living w the same driftwood for a year now but after i rearranged the tank a bit to help him reach the surface yesterday, today I find him picking at and eating what appears to be the wood itself? I fed him yesterday so it’s not like he’s starving. Should I be concerned or amused?
Hey guys! I just adopted this crayfish from a local pet store that his previous owners dumped him at in a very small and dirty tank. He’s my first crayfish but I’ve kept aquariums for over a decade. I have him set up in a 20 gal with some feeder goldfish (what the pet store owner was feeding him) at 72 degrees right now. I was wondering if anybody knew what type of crayfish he is and if they have any care tips. He’s pretty big, probably five to six inches long and he’s definitely not a native species to my area given his size and blue claws. Thanks!
Got this guy from a local creek in early September - saw what I was sure were his remains yesterday and when I went to fish him out today, couldn’t find the exoskeleton but did find him alive and well underneath the driftwood! What a funny little creature; I knew he was hardier than that! Big sigh of relief 🥲
Once i saw a blue crayfish in fish store and it was beautiful so i get it, it was summer days with temp. reaching 40-42°C i was on a bike the way home (it takes 20 min to get home )it was very active at store but when i got home it don't move much and sat on one place, later died. So was it high temp. while getting home or what i just don't get it.
Boy or girl?
My cray fish is lethargic. I don’t know if it’s molting? I’m stressed I did a water change I have filteration and it supplies oxygen. Yet my cray is lethargic. I held him in my hand for reactions and he’s slowly moving and a 3-3.5 in cray. He slowly crawls. I don’t think he is eating to the best knowledge. When I checked on him earlier he seemed a bit slimish, kind of a bluish color On the bottom. His tail is not fully extended and won’t flap when I pick him up. When I set him back in he just sunk. And his legs were curled this doesn’t seem a molt. What do I do? Is it a premolt behavior? He’s not scavenging not pinching me when I held him. He’s not him. What do I do I really need help. Please anything. His species is a Northern Clearwater Crayfish wild caught in Minnesota. Could my tank be a bit to cold? Perhaps? I did a water change and kind of did it again he’s just not moving.
My crayfish escaped a week ago and she was fine but not these cracks are on her randomly out of nowhere. She hasn’t had any injuries she’s just been hiding in her cage and she molted not too long ago. Is she ok? Does anyone know what this is?
Hello! I'm planning on getting my dad a crawdad for Christmas (I'd be the one caring for it, he'd just stare at it) since he had one as a kid, and talks about how he'd like another. Unsure of what species, probably just whatever freshwater guy is easiest to get my hands on in Illinois. I was curious as to whether or not you could keep one in a paladarium? Or at least something with a little land area? I want to try and replicate what my dad had made as a kid, but fitting with modern care standards.
The title, idk if I can or not, lots of mixed answers on google. Thanks in advance:)
I bought my freshwater yabby a few months ago, and she appears to be doing very well (molted thrice since I got her, living on a steady diet of frozen peas and occasional sinking pellets) but the petstore I got her from have no idea which yabby she is.
From my research, she could be a Cherax depressus but she's a bit more brown then the seem to be and a lot smoother in complexion. She could just be a juvenile though.
O my gosh! A Reddit thingy for special people like me? I’m so excited. I have Northern Clearwater Crays I caught in the wild in Minnesota (That’s where I currently live.). I have two females in a 20 gal. They are doing perfect! I’m glad I came across this! I love playing with my cray friends and do homework with them. I have wanted these odd silly creatures that look like lobsters and you can hold and interact with. I taught them to eat out of my hand after I got them this summer. I am proud I got this pet! They are smallish but they grew a LOT! I love my crays. I like when they pinch me and awww 🥰 I love cray fish there cute. Especially when you try to pet them when there crawling the wave there little arms up and stuff there so adorable and everyone hates me for having them though some of my friends think there cute. I love these creatures. For some reason my pleco rides the larger one for some reason and they get along I think. Pleco is stupid and thinks my cray is a rock or something idk. Is that normal? My cray don’t care what that pleco does nor shows aggression. My danios also swims near my crays they really aren’t that aggressive. From what I see or there just compatible and I made a perfect community because my danios hang out with the crays and it seems peaceful. Though my z danios hide a lot and I started out with 5 and I have 5 still. They swim near death 💀 but they don’t get death 💀.
Larry just molted it what must have been minutes that I was in the kitchen loading the dishwasher. Broad daylight, in the open. Larry gives zero fucks. New claws are huge.
So we are getting a 55 gallon tomorrow(super awesome deal on fb yay) , we were going to leave the B (as in female dog)in her 29 since we don’t see her anyway and move our shrimp to the new tank once it’s cycled next year … but honestly the shrimp are so tiny so they are going to be moved to the cray and the B is moving to the 55 … would an aqua clear ac 110 be enough for the 55 gallon? Plus a bubble maker on both ends of the tank and prolly in between? I wanna make it a paradise … you know so she can destroy and wipe it out and move everything because obviously I have no idea what looks good …. Should I get the rocks from her old tank and add to that color and give the shrimp sand? Do they like sand? Since it’s a slow process to get her there what would you guys recommend … her in 29 and shrimp heaven on 55? Do as I was thinking about doing and maybe have 1 of her babies stay with her in the 55? So many things I could do … the shrimp will have fishies and some kuhlai loaches …
All this started with my friends having a cray with babies and now I’m knee deep in tanks lol
