Are there any longshoreman in this sub?

I currently work for walmart and I'm sick of putting in so much effort while watching coworkers get paid the same to screw around. I wanna get into blue collar work and I've always liked being around the ocean plus I'm comfortable with hard work and long hours. Anyone who would be willing to answer some questions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Any celiacs in the group that eat at the Himalayan Restaurant? My granddaughter is newly diagnosed and there are a lot of gluten-free options on the menu. The very nice man I spoke assured me they are very careful about cross contamination, but I want to make sure she can safely eat there.

Photo locations

Hi! I’m new to Coos bay, going on a photoshoot in a few weeks with an out-of-town photographer and I’m looking for ideas of places around here to go! Basically any picturesque beach or park with lots of trees. Definitely open to a hike or adventure to get there. Thanks in advance!

Hiking Trails

Hello, my wife and I are in Coos Bay for a few months for a job and wanted to do some hiking while we’re out here. Can anyone recommend some trails? We’re open to any distance but if you have longer trails, say 5 miles or more, we’d be very grateful for the recommendation!

Had some gentlemen with green symbol on their shirts offering remodeling for houses/roofs. I saw from whats happening in coos county website that these people are fake and scoping out properties. Does anyone know more about this? Had them at my door today.

Best street tacos? + other food questions

Attending SWOCC in July

  • Where are the best tacos?

  • As current exchange student in Taiwan, do we have legit Chinese food?

  • Google Maps shows a TacoBell 500 meters from the CC, however satellite view shows it as an undeveloped lot. Is it currently a TacoBell?

  • Lastly, does anyone have experience with Food service at SWOCC? The daily posted menu always sounds good. However, I’ve yet to get good information about the food.

Thank you guys! And I am excited be a Laker!

Moving to Coos Bay

Hi all,

I'm a 21M living in an urban part of FL, I am exploring a job opportunity out in Coos Bay and wanted to hear everyone's opinions on living out in coos bay! Here are some specific questions I had about Coos Bay:

What is the renting and home buying economy look like out in Coos Bay?

I am a vegetarian, what is the cuisine like for a dinner out of the home?

Where would one go to have some fun "out on the town" after a long week?

Overall I just want to get a feel for how life is like living in Coos Bay, TIA!! 😌

Offering Excel Help to Small Business Owners

Hey Coos Bay! I'm in the area for about a month and am starting my own small business doing Excel and analytics consultation. I graduated with an analytics focused MBA. I'm reaching out on Reddit first to see if anybody needs help. I have a job that keeps me busy during normal business hours, but will be available for consultancy and assistance after normal business hours. Really, as a small business owner, is there such a thing as normal business hours? So, please feel free to reach out. I leave February 20th, but can still work remotely, but if you like face to face then I can make sure to find time to help you out!

Need help with mom’s dementia

Hello I’m currently a resident of FL. My mother lives in Coos Bay and has a family member who lives very close who has been caring for her for several years as her cognition has declined. It has now become too burdensome for the family member to care for her as her behavior is also becoming increasingly aggressive and belligerent. No other family or friends are nearby/or able to help. Where can I turn for resources to assist? She has Humana (Medicare). I’m told that home health care is not available plus we think my mom will decline home health care. (She is embarrassed of the condition of her home). I’m told that Medicare will not pay for residential care, even though it has now come to the point where it is dangerous for her to be by herself. I’m just really not clear where to start and also not clear on what type of county/state assistance that is available in the area. Thank you in advance for any light you can shed on this topic.

SWOCC Staff and Students

Agroecology students need your input for help determining what and how much to grow this season in the Instructional Garden at SWOCC. If you attend SWOCC (or work there), your participation would be a great help in the planning of the instructional garden.

If you would like to participate, please fill out this quick, seven question survey.

If you are not staff or student but know someone who is, feel free to send it their way. Thank you!

Looking for a local "handyman" service

Hey there!

I was wanting to get a mast + HiBoost antennae installed on the roof of a 2-story house (+wiring to the interior). I was hoping to find some sort of a generalist or "handyman" service that I could contact about getting this done--I couldn't really find what I was looking for on Google.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a local service like this?

Thanks!

Found text books

We found two college(?) text books this afternoon on Marion Street in North Bend. They have post its flagging pages so I think they are being used by someone for a class. We would like to get them back to the owner. They are not wet or damaged so I think they got lost very recently. If you know someone who lost their books shoot me a DM and tell me what they were and I will meet them somewhere to return them.

Is Coos Bay a good place to raise a family?

A little about myself. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, married for 4 years, have a 3 year old son and our 2nd child due in March. We want to move to a smaller more slow paced town because we are both tired of the busy big city life. I have a job offer at the hospital in Coos Bay and we are thinking about taking it but I wanted to hear from the locals first.

Is Coos Bay a good place for children?

What is the crime rate?

What areas should I avoid moving to?

Is the Bay Area Hospital a good place to work? (I worked for toxic hospitals that don't treat their employees like humans before and do not want to move if they are the same)

How is the housing market close to town?

How much rain/snow do you guys get? (This will be the biggest adjustment for us coming from LA)

What is the service for cell/internet like?

Any other advice you can give will be greatly appreciated

Id be grateful to hear what spots are nearby.

(yes I clean up after myself, I am respectful of public land.)

Idaho transplant moving to Coos Bay in March

Hello! I’m a 23y/o F and I’ve accepted a position as a registered nurse at Bay Area Hospital. I’ll be moving down in early March from North Idaho and I’m excited to join your community!

I’m just reaching out to know… well, a bit of everything!

What are good places to eat/socialize/etc? Are there any areas to avoid? What are some good ways to meet people my age? Are there any Oregon-specific laws I should know coming from Idaho?

Any and all advice is helpful and I thank you all in advance! (And please don’t tell me to move somewhere else; I’d rather hear about the pride of your community, and I’ve already signed the papers) ☺️
