Hi all, I’m new to competitive and very new to team building. So far I have a kind of aurora veil team but I’m lost as to what the last Pokémon should be. Does anyone have any advice? Or just advice in general on this team?
Pokepaste: https://pokepast.es/904193a3b25128ba
New to competitive and just recently started playing showdown. I have no idea what I’m doing but i’m having fun experimenting with different Pokemons and getting beat by others who are 10x better than me. I’d like to fight back and maybe win some games because I suck lol. Any suggestions or recommendations would help also my favorite pokemon is Mawile(not sure if she’s competitive but I’d love to have a team with her in it).
pd: I don’t want to be the best or anything just have fun while knowing what im doing
(sorry for crappy quality, I don't know how to take photos on my switch lite ;W;)
As the title says, I have two questions for you:
1-I will be attending my second local tournament in November, how early do you usually make a team? Last tournament (my first ever) was a couple of weeks ago and I made the team a little bit more than a month before that, but when i went to the tournament I was told that i made a nice team but was a bit obsolete at that point (it was a typhlosion H hyper offensive team). So how early can i make it, considering that the meta evolves constantly?
2- I made this team (Untitled 5 (pokepast.es), what would you guys change about it? the main problems i see are the fact that gholdengo is my only special attacker and I have 4/6 of the team weak to ground.

Hi all, wanted to get your advice on some pokemon set-ups that I can draft for a local competition.
Rules are - 6 pokemon, pick 3 to battle maximum 1 legendary able to use pokemon from Gen 1-Gen8 No restrictions on OU UU etc
Would be drafting a few teams as it's required to have different teams. As I'm still new to the scene, was hoping I can get some help here.
Thanks in advance! :D
Hi, ive been interested in vgc for a while thanks in most part to Wolfey and i set myself a goal at the start of the year to reach at least GreatBall tier, any advice for how i can start building for this format and what is good and easy to understand?
Thanks in advance
A little context, me and my buddies wanna have some battles in S/V. One is doing a fire based team, and the other is going grass. I chose ghost. The rules are pretty basic, lvl 50 battles, dual typing allowed, held items are allowed. And that’s pretty much the only rules. I just want some opinions on teams I should use. Any and all advice would be appreciated.
Hi i'm an italian vgc player but i'm not very good becouse i started playing 2 month ago but i can help with explaining basic stuff and give suggestion on team and when I have time outside of school also fight on showdown if you wana test stuff
Hello! I'm new to the whole competitive scene of Pokemon and have been watching a lot of WolfeVGC as of late. And comp battling looks very interesting to me but I am sort of intimidated by it as well. I'm very much a casual player but I do have knowledge about EV and IV training, just lacking in strategies. The answer to this question is prolly gonna be to do whatever I want, but I would just like some advice if possible. Thanks!
Edit: I wanna say thank you guys for the advice! A majority of it is to try out Showdown so I just made an account and I'm going to practice with sample teams
Currently doing some pokeball tiered doubles on violet. Running a tatsugiri/dondozo team. My dondozo isn't perfect stat wise but on turn 3. Right when i brought him out, this yamega just wrecked him with an air slash (through unaware). Does yamega just have that good or stats or is there something deeper I'm missing? Here for all the advice to work this team better, I love the playstyle
Hey guys, sorry if the post is outdated (because of the Pokémon generation, especifically, Pokemon X), but I was looking at my competitive team that I created when I was 13 or 14, and now, 9 years later, I wanted to know your opinion on whether it’s good or not. Also, what changes would you recommend? Below, I’ll leave the team in Showdown format.

Hey, I think about playing competetive Pokemon but I question. How many pro players actually train the Pokemon themselves? Do they just obtain them from others or do they hack? I mean I dont understand this part of the community at all. It seems not much talked about and rather kept like a thing everyone knows but nobody admits. I cannot imagine to try train my Pokemon for hours just to catch a new variant to change some EVs. Thanks in advance:)
I want to try to get master ball tier in SwSh (just recently found out there is an indefinite final season) but at beginner and PokeBall tier, it is almost dead and it takes forever for me to get matched with an opponent (if ever). I can sometimes try and get someone I know to battle me, but it only works once since I can only get matched with the same person once. Does this change somewhat at higher tiers, or is it just dead all throughout? If this is the case, would the only feasible way for me to reach master ball tier be to just make a series of dupe alt accounts and climb that way?

This is a part 2 of this series. Same rules are part 1. Give me some feedback and the sort.
Bedrock Breakdown RCK/phy/80 pw/100 acc/No effect
Granite Knuckles RCK/phy/50/100 acc/Has 10% chance to increase defense by 1 stage.
Diamond Knuckles RCK/phy/70/100 acc/Has 10% chance to raise defense and attack by 1 stage.
Obsidian Knuckles RCK/phy/120/95 acc/Lowers attack by 2 stages.
War cry FTG/sts/NA/100 acc,/Increases attack by 3 stages, reduces defense by 2 stages.
Soul split GHO/spc/130 pw/90 acc/5 pp/hits multiple opponents, but will not hit a pokemon already hit by this move.
Mirror edge STL/phy/??? pw/100 acc/10 pp/This move's power is equal to the power of the last move your opponent used(either last turn or this turn depending on speed), but the damage will never be less than 40 power.
Spellbound wave FAI/spc/70 pw/100 acc/10 pp/does double dmg if target has activated their ability and hits multiple opponents.
So I have a really creative mind and often mess around with different made up ideas of my own. I have created my own made up regions with friends and all that stuff. I also love watching videos about competitive pokemon despite being the farthest thing from competitive.
This is a list of some pokemon moves I made up. I thought it would be cool to hear how competitively viable or unviable they are. For pokemon that use them, just either ask me or just do like a best case/worst case scenario. You could also suggest ways they could be more viable or whatnot. I could also do more of these later on
Celestial geyser PSY/spc/175 pw/90 acc/5 pp/The targeted pokemon gains +4 stages special attack after getting hit
Divine blast FAI/spc/130 pw/100 acc/5 pp/Takes 2 turns to attack. If the opponent switches out, the oncoming pokemon will lose 1 stage of special defense before attack resolves
Heroic slash FTG/phy/80 pw/100 acc/15 pp/Deals super effective damage to DRG
Grinder STL/phy/??? Pw/100 acc/10 pp/power lowers as pp lowers;starts as 140, reduces power by 10% each time used
Megabane PSN/phy/140 pw/90 acc/5 pp/Has 75% chance to poison. Has a 50% chance to badly poison if tge target is already poisoned. Poisoned pokemon take half dmg from this attack. Badly poisoned pkmn are immune to this attack.
Enchanted pulse FAI/spc/90 pw/100 acc/15 pp/This move is guaranteed to crit if target is at full health.
Pneumatic Blast FLY/spc/90 pw/100 acc/20 pp/This move has a 10% chance to confuse target pokemon.
Uranium Jab RCK/phy/85 pw/90 acc/20 pp/This move has a 15% chance to poison target.
Howdy, I'm no competitive player at all so forgive my ignorance, but I was curious about whether the supposed upgrade would be worthwhile in the competitive scene or not.
Pressure- For every 1 PP use, it drains 4 PP.
5 PP Powerhouses like Hydro Pump can only be used once that match if used under Pressure
10 PP Powerhouse like Flamethrower, Earthquake, Flash Cannon can only be used twice under Pressure.
Would this make Pressure-Mons obnoxious walls in that sense, or just some annoying gimmick?
My uninformed thought is that you basically have the opponent waste a devasting strong move's PP to get rid of the Pressure-mon or have to give the pressure mon at least 1 more turn using a lesser damaging move in order to save your hydro pump for later while taking chip damage or some kind of other setup/stat-down.
Hey!
Not sure if someone will be wise enough to help with my query, but here we go:
If I use a Scizor tecnician with the move acrobatics and no item equipped, does the move gets boosted to a total of 55 x 1.5 x 2= 165, or does it simply stays 110?
What I mean by that is: does tecnician effect goes into account before the game check if I have an item, or after?
Thanks for the answer!
Pokémon that are required in the team electivire swampert garchomp iron valiant Pokémon other pokemon I’d like in it Metagross talonflame salazzle tyranitar walrein krookodile Thanks in advance feel free to dm if you want
Hello all, I'm a long time pokemon player but only recently have I gotten into competitive PVP pokemon. So far I've just been battling my friends with pokemon I enjoy and think are neat. I'll explain my reasoning behind the pokemon I picked but the team is centered around one of my favorite pokemon of all time, Vikavolt. Before anyone says anything, yes I know vikavolt is not that good, but I think it can work with what I've built. I'm not really sure what items to give some of them... please let me know if you have any advice! Also, please be nice. Like I said, I'm very new to this. This is for double battles!
Gastrodon - No item yet
Ability: Storm Drain
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 6 SpD
Modest Nature
Earth Power
Hydro Pump
Ancient Power
Protect
Bulky ish Sp attacker that works well with trick room. I wanted both ground and water coverage, however I am also considering Excadrill as something I can use in case for whatever reason I am unable to set trick room, I can still have a relatively fast pokemon. My concern is that excadrill doesn't know any water moves. Not sure what item to give it.
Vikavolt @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
Bug Buzz
Energy Ball
Thunderbolt
?
Vikavolt is intended to be the carry. When it teras, unless the enemy knows gravity or smack down, it can't be hit by any super effective moves which I thought was fun. Choice specs to give it enough damage to OHKO pokemon that could cause me trouble like fluttermane or gholdengo. Moveset is to give it lots of coverage, although I'm not sure what the 4th move should be or if it should learn protect.
Skeledirge - No item yet, maybe Heavy-duty boots or safety goggles?
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 6 SpD
Bold Nature
Flamethrower
Shadow Ball
Torch Song
Protect
I picked skeledirge as a bulky defensive pokemon that can counter gholdengo or fluttermane, who I've had trouble against when playing, although it more is there to be a fires type who can set up with torch song. Tera Fire to protect it from ghost and dark types. My friend has a tendency to put down a lot of hazards, hence my reasoning behind the boots, but I don't know if there's something that could be better.
Corviknight @ Leftovers (this can change)
Ability: Mirror Armor (could also go pressure)
Tera Type: Steel or Maybe fighting?
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
Iron Defense
Body Press
Iron Head
Brave Bird
I honestly don't have a great reason for having corviknight on my team besides that it is super bulky and has been giving my friend trouble (he calls it the wall lmao). I also like it's defensive typing and it works well in trick room too.
Flutter Mane @ Assault Vest
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
Dazzling Gleam
Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Moonblast (?)
My strategy for gholdengo. Like I mentioned, I needed a way to OHKO gholdengo so that it can't nasty plot and take out my vikavolt if I am unable to set up trick room. I have the assault vest to help with survivability.
Indeedee-F @ Psychic Seed
Ability: Psychic Surge
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
Follow Me
Trick Room
Protect
Psychic
Indeedee is my trick room setter and also prevents priority moves so I can (in theory) safely set up. I have it use follow me to protect vikavolt in trick room as well as the psychic seed to increase its bulk even more. Tera normal to protect it vs dark or ghost types, but I also considered giving it a focus sash.
Please let me know if there are any changes you would make, or pokemon you would suggest to improve the team!
I’m writing the plot for a spin-off game. One of the two protagonists is an Hypno which is… not the best mon since in this game you also get poks like Flutter Mane, Chi-Yu, pre-nerf Zacian, pre-nerf Darkrai, an abomination I won’t name ecc… (🅱️alanced) and in this series you can NOT change your protagonist or remove it from the team. Therefore, I’m asking you all to write down the problems with Hypno and/or some buff ideas. I do not change types or stats but I am willing to add moves to its movepool and even create new moves! For further information you can DM me. Thank you sm in advance!
