I know that there have been a couple ppl who have gone back to school to get into the field they wanted. I did aerospace eng at the University of Colorado but I'm stuck in quality engineering role at some large company, so obviously not happy and trying to find a mechanical/structures role.
I've been contemplating about going back to grad school but not exactly sure how that will pan out. I have a job as a Level 2 that gives me good security, but its not the field I want. Anyone been in something similar and went back to school for this reason?
I am looking at the master degree online. I am currently working with 6 years of experience mainly in structural engineering. Currently working for Los Alamos.
Wondering for any of you that have good info. For acceptance.
My gpa was 2.97 in college C in differential equations and partial differential equations I have not taken the GRE
Am I cooked ?
Hi all! Anybody know of a good student-led band that might want to perform at an event of around 400 people, supporting wildlife conservation, this April? Thanks!
I wanted to hear some peoples advice on taking a CS master’s / certificate without having any prior experience. I am a Mechanical Engineer undergrad, graduating this spring. I took CSCI101 as a freshman but have not revisited the subject since. Anyone have any thoughts on if this would not be smart to do? Thanks!
My daughter was accepted as incoming Freshman for Fall 2025 and we're 99% sure we are committing as Mines was her top choice. (Still waiting results of other schools including in state).
We're looking into banks to open a checking account for her, and since we are coming from CA, we would like to know which bank would be most convenient/walking distance from Mines dorms so she has easy access if she ever needs to get cash or manually deposit money.
Searching on Google Maps, I see Chase and US Bank ATMs being near by the campus. Are these ATMs convenient and always readily available? - thank you
I know of MinesList on Fb, are there any other good places to post?
Hi everyone! I was accepted to the Chem E PhD program at Mines, and I’m trying to figure out where I can afford to live on the small stipend I was offered. There’s no way I can afford to live in grad housing, because the cost of a single occupancy room is like $1.7k. Just curious how everyone else is making it work.
When you go to select roommates the messaging system is terrible so include your phone number or some other message platform in. The system doesn’t say who messages are from or who they are to (it’s terrible).
I also recommend looking at the floor plans for each building, the website might say it’s a triple but some of the rooms are the size of a double and they put 3 people in them.
hi, i’ve heard the big three classes are expression for meche a while ago but i didn’t remember which classes it referred to. what are those classes and how impossible is it really to take them together?
Hi y’all!
I just got admitted into the MS CS at Mines for Fall 2025 and was wondering if anyone has been a grad teaching assistant here and would like to answer my questions! I saw on the website that for grad TAs they waive some portion of the tuition, how much do you get waived? How can one land a TA job?
Thanks!!!
I was hoping to compile some stories related to how you guys are/were going about finding jobs? When is a good time to start applying? How much luck is there getting positions outside of Colorado? I am not taking many classes and sitting on my butt just looking at jobs is stressing me out, but I feel like it’s too early to apply.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
My GPA dropped from 3.63 to 3.57 in the first semester of senior year, and I was originally deferred. How much will this affect my chances? Do I still have a shot at getting in?
are there any rules against using the facility to turn a profit?
Hey everyone! Basically, I have been admitted to Mines for Petroleum Engineering with an $8,000 scholarship (Provost Award) and my parents have been pressuring me to go to Mines due to the ranking and prestige of P.E at Mines. Before anything, I would like to specify that I am very grateful for the opportunity that I've been given at Mines and am proud of my admittance. I just have some worries regarding the program.
I'm fairly skilled in Math and Physics (I'm currently in the I.B program), but I am worried about the future of Petroleum as well as the workload the degree brings. People in my community have been celebrating me like I've accomplished something amazing, and yes I am proud of my admittance, but I am also very worried about inflexibility of the degree and future career trajectory. I know Engineering is infamous for having many difficult moments, so I'm worried how the specialization of Petroleum will affect it.
I would love to hear any advice on how engineering is like at Mines in general, what the Petroleum program is like, as well as if there is anything I should know about the program before I go into it. Thank you for your time!
Hi everyone,
I’m an international student starting my PhD in robotics at Mines and exploring housing options. While graduate housing is convenient, the cost and restrictions (like not being able to have a pet) are making me consider off-campus housing instead.
I’m looking for affordable places with easy access to campus, preferably through public transport like light rails or buses. I’ve checked Mineslist on Facebook and found some promising leads, but I’m unsure how convenient the commute would be from those areas.
If you know of good neighborhoods or have any advice, I’d really appreciate your suggestions!
Thanks in advance!
I got accepted today :)
just curious. thx.
Has anyone been admitted since the break?
I am going to mines next year as a freshman and really want to bring my car for mountain trips. I understamd that I wont be allowed to purchase a parking pass, and am wondering if there are any non affiliated long term parking options? I currently go to college full time yet still find time to go out to go mounraineering and skiing every weekend. I do believe I will be able to find time to make regular trips, and therefore need for a car is justified.
i’m planning on majoring in environmental engineering and i really don’t know school to choose. Obviously Mines is amazing academically and for my future beyond college but in terms of a college experience is it lacking? I know that it is definitely not a party school but hoping for some fun at least. I would love to hear some pros and cons (heavy on the cons). My top schools right now are Mines and UVM…
Hi, if anyone is graduating this year are looking for new tenants in a 2-4 room apartment or house pm me! If anyone has any advice of where to live or where not to live let me know. Thanks!
I don’t know if I should apply to it. What do people think about it?
I’m looking to acquire the lab manual for Organic Chemistry Lab I, is there anyone who was in the class last semester willing to hand one off to me? I’m willing to pay some money for it.
Hi, I'm a hs senior who got accepted ea and am highly considering mines. A lot of the things abt this school seem really cool, but after doing some more research some ppl here are complaining abt how this school is taking downwards trend. For example, I've seen ppl complain about how parking has gotten really bad, worsening pricing for residence life, worsening food, growing freshman classes/acceptance rates causing overpopulation on campus, etc.
Are these valid complaints, and ultimately, is mines regressing, or are these just ppl turning mole hills into mountains? Thanks!
The smoker allegedly doesn't smoke in the suite, but any empathetic person should understand that fourth hand smoke can matter to people with allergies or asthma. Also, isn't it just plain rude to move someone into someone else's living space without any warning?
Hi,
Can someone give me the rundown of EBGN 201 aka Principles of Economics? What can I expect from lectures? Can I learn everything in the lecture or do I have to actually read the whole textbook? What are the quizzes like (are they mc or frq)?
Thank you!
Oh, you thought finding a cure for parking on campus was easier than passing Calc III? Nope, welcome to the Mines Hunger Games—where spots are imaginary, parking tickets are legendary, and freshmen park like they're landing a spaceship. Meanwhile, CU Boulder kids think their parking garages are “bad.” HA. So, who’s down to turn Kafadar into a parking lot? 🚗💀
how likely is it to get in after getting deferred?
