To say I'm peeved would be an understatement. For the last 10 years, no joke, I have been counting down the days until I reach 25-year membership and get P2 access.

I'm a regional member who can only get to Melbourne for a game once or twice a year and hence only buy a Flex-4 membership. I was perfectly fine with not getting any sort of GF access considering I only pay about $120 a year for the membership. In 2023, I upgraded to Flex-10 for P3 access, which was useless considering only a few thousand members with P2 even got tickets that year.

However I knew I was only two years off finally hitting that magical 25-year mark and getting that coveted P2 access, which I feel is a reasonable reward for 25+ years of consecutive membership with the club.

Fast forward to 2025 and there is no longer any mention of 25+ year members receiving GF access at all.

All other access categories are the same as what they were in 2023 (I don't have / couldn't find anything on 2024, probably because we were never making finals).

I was a bit worried about this when I saw the club spruiking their new 'Pie for Life' loyalty program the other month. And right I was. The 'achievements' on that are absolutely ridiculous. There isn't even anything for 25 years anymore! Lucky me, I can wait 5 more years to have my name on the club's website. Whoop-de-do.

I can't be the only one in this situation. While P1 access for 50+ year members still remains (and that's 50 years total, not consecutive), anyone in the 25–49 years of consecutive membership without Legends or Social Club access has currently had their P2 access wiped.

I really hope I'm wrong and that the club has just forgotten to include the 25+ year benefit in the P2 list, but I'm utterly disappointed if it's true. The irony in access being removed in my first year of 25+ year membership is not lost on me. And I'm only 29 years old so I hardly could have done much more.

But I digress. Anyone else in this situation?

Some people were a bit worried about trading our early picks and what not and worried about the ageing list, wondering how everyone feels now?

I think the club has done the right thing, they obviously aren’t settling for being mediocre. By this I mean that if we had of drafted younger players and not gone as hard recruiting, we could be in a position to finish lower end of finals or just miss out like last season. We would have had enough good players to be competitive but not that next level. With our recruits we will be in a position to have one big go at it next year and whatever happens after that isn’t to be worried about yet. I like the aggressive attitude of trying to win the flag instead of just being competitive.

Today my membership arrived and I got a scarf, some stickers and a lanyard but no card. I usually get a card and I had auto renew on, so I'm not sure why my membership card didn't come.

I was only about 7 at the time but I have memories of Barry being ruthlessly abused by our own fans when he played for us and everyone calling him “moneybags” and him playing poorly for that one year before they sent him off to Carlton. What were the details of him coming over from the Swans and was the negative attention from fans the reason he left? I can’t find much online.

Clearly the big horse has had enough of the coaching caper, but would be a wonderful addition as our new footy boss. Who says no?

With our playing list finalised for 2025, it's a good time to take a look at who is entering the final year of their current deal at the club. As happens occasionally, 2025 is a season in which a significant proportion of the list is out of contract, meaning Leppitsch will have his hands full over the coming year.
