Classical Christian-themed paintings, pastels, watercolors, sculpture, stained glass windows, fabulous artifacts, churches and cathedrals.
RULES:
1. Be kind
Good manners are the key to every door in town.
2. Christian Art Only
Art posted here must reference Christian themes, ideas or theology. Scenes from the Bible are always acceptable, and also Christian churches, cathedrals, clergy, monks, nuns, hermits, martyrs, angels, prophets, sculpture, artifacts, tapestry, murals, and stained glass. Human beings depicted should be from over a century ago and long since passed.
Not only paintings, but photographs of beautiful, historic or beloved churches, stained glass, artwork, altars and artifacts are welcome.
3. No Politics, Memes, Arguments, or Divisive Cultural Topics
This group is for art appreciation and the focus is on spirituality, beauty, and the contemplation of God, but not the divisive hot button topics of the day. If you look for division, try your arithmetic in another subreddit.
4. Contemporary Art Policy
Only reproductions of paintings and drawings from the classical art canon, that are at least 70-80 years old, i.e. in the public domain. Photographs of churches, altar pieces, sculptures etc. are OK as well. No amateur ('Me') artworks, promotional material, AI-generated art.
5. Image must be of highest quality available
Submit static single images only in highest possible resolution to allow us to zoom in on the interesting details.
Post the sharpest, clearest, highest resolution, best-looking you can possibly get. Do not downsize. If the image exceeds Reddit's 20mb upload limit, click on the link tab and link directly to the image on imgur or wikicommons. If the image is on a different site, or protected against sharing and download, then message a moderator and specify the url.
No low-resolution images.
6. Limits on posts per day
Newcomers should observe a limit of three posts per day, to allow time for feedback and moderation and find out whether their posts are acceptable.
Regular, habitual and accepted posters that have been contributing for a long period of time may post up to 22 per day to help build up the reserves.
7. Reposts Permissible
Try to avoid reposts of anything recent, but as long as your version is of good quality and also not an obvious downgrade from an earlier post, it is all right. Best of all are reposts that improve upon earlier posts in resolution and overall quality. Let's try to raise the bar, not lower it.
8. NSFW Permissible
Some Christian art does feature full or partial nudity. If you do post paintings with incidental nudes, Reddit's algorithm will often mark (NSFW) automatically for you. Let Reddit do as it wishes. Remember that the NSFW designation merely indicates "not safe for work," it is not a judgement on merit or intent of the artist.
9. Must have a verified email with Reddit to post
Verify your email address with Reddit prior to posting.
10. Only direct links to approved picture sites
Currently, approved sites are i.reddit.com, imgur.com or upload.wikimedia.org. This is mainly to avoid pop-ups and other unpleasantness from other sites. Message the mods if there is a compelling reason to post from another site.
11. Title must conform to the accepted format: artist - title (date) [width x height in image pixels]
If date is completely unknown, specify the lifespan of the artist in parentheses beside the artist's name. If a date range is known, specify approximate date using the word "circa," abbreviated to "c."
Width and Height must be specified to help collectors evaluate whether they want the image.
Hint: be sure to include a hyphen, two parentheses and two brackets in your title, as noted above.
