Hunan 20 Cash Y-400.7 over .8 (plain-petaled flower over flower with line through each petal). Listed as Y-400.7 variety 5 in the "Hunan Twenty Cash Commentary."
Just bought this scarce variety; they can be found if you pay attention to the flower. I hope you can make out the .8 flower around the edges of the .7 flower. [Odd thing about the environmental damage: the two bands of damage are over planchet errors.]
Please help me identify this coin
I recently bought a chinese coin from the xin dynasty which has a uneven edge (one side has a slightly wider edge) Is this normal for ancient chinese coins or not? The diameter and weight are matching very well but the edge made me question it.
I do not believe it is from the State of Qin, but cannot decide if it is Dynastic Qin or Western Han. To me, the hole is more akin to Qin examples, but the left symbol looks more Han. I would be grateful for help.
Recently bought this variety of Y-301 (variety 4, according to "The Ten Cash Commentary" at page 10). Although not common, examples can be found. On the obverse, the curving stems to the immediate left and right of the flags differ from the other varieties of Y-301 (primarily because they are not mirror images of each other; the left one has a circular arch while the right one is flatter). On the reverse, there are 123 dots in the circle (the more common variety 1 has 120), and the lettering differs (particularly the NA of "CHINA," which are wider and styled differently). This one has some interesting lamination issues on the reverse. The five varieties of Y-301 are described at pages 8-11 of that book.
