Midlothian Library is a Children's Playground

Don't get me wrong. I love that the children have somewhere to go and enjoy themselves. They are also introduced to literature in creative ways and surrounded by hundrends of book that can spark their interests in so many different stories, topics, skills. BUT OMG IS IT LOUD. I frequent the libraries pretty often, and over the years, the volume has increased tremendously. Kids screaming, running around, and just having a good time. I ask myself where are the parents, then they come around a corner just as loud as the kids. Doors are slamming, babies are crying, loud conversations are taking place. When did this become okay? Ironically, lots of these libraries have built open indoor playground for the kids, then created these small confined rooms for people who need the quiet. Then made a system where is you don't book the rooms withing a 24 hour time period, you're basically SOL and have to endure the noise. Why are there not sound proof areas where the kids can play, and one where there is complete silence? Idk. I may be out of touch with a community initiative or am just not woth the times anymore. Again, love the kids have somewhere to go for fun, but never in a million years would think I would be in a libarary and be able to hear a cotton ball drop on the floor... Okay, I'm finished. 🫢

MAC shutting down or moving?

https://richmondbizsense.com/2025/01/29/450-unit-apartment-complex-proposed-for-midlothian-athletic-club-property/

I had a membership there years ago and it was nice for the kids in the summer time. Now the only option is the crazy expensive ACAC

House tax shock

Has anyone else got the most recent real estate tax assessment from the county? This is a very small house, but the estimated tax increased over 18%!!!! You'd expect an increase every year but not in the double digits like this 💀 previous increases have been in the single digits. I'm just curious if others have seen similar jumps in their assessments.

Rentals?

Where are we finding rental homes? I’ve been warned to stop using Zillow but we’re looking for a single family home in Midlothian to move into this summer. How else do we find rentals if not Zillow?

Is Chesterfield still using Appomattox water? I noticed water doesn't taste bad after being left out on my nightstand like it did when we were using RVA water.

Our family drinks tap water but we filter it with Pur filters and it tastes fine if drank within a few hours or so but I noticed if I leave a glass on my nightstand it would taste foul after a day or so. Since Chesterfield switched to Appomattox water the water still tastes different after being left out on my nightstand but it doesn't taste foul like RVA water did when being left out.

Anyone know what the differences are with RVA and Appomattox river water?

Retiring in Chesterfield

I have lived in Northern Virginia for about 30 years. I am about to retire as a federal employee. My son who a state employee has recommended Chesterfield as a very good place to retire. Price of houses are reasonable, compared to expensive houses and high taxes in Fairfax County.

I would be grateful if I could get some inputs on whether Chesterfield is a place to retire. Thanks for your input.

Hamlett Watkins Centre

Is anyone familiar with this new community near brander mill? I'm in Glen Allen now but our current lease is up in a few months and LOVE the idea of a tiny rental home since we have two dogs. I just have heard midlothian isn't the safest but honestly, I've only lived in Hanover and henrico and same with my family so I want to know from people who actually live or have lived in that area. Any info anyone can provide helps. :) Thank you!!
