The City of Chesapeake Virginia.

Chesapeake is a diverse city with few urban areas as well as many square miles of protected farmland, forests, and wetlands, including a substantial portion of the Great Dismal Swamp. Extending all the way from the rural border with North Carolina to the harbor area of Hampton Roads adjacent to the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth, Chesapeake is located on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and has miles of waterfront industrial, commercial and residential property.

South Norfolk Jordan Bridge, a poem I wrote

SNJB by able6

High above where waters glide,
The SNJB spans bold and wide.
A southern grace, a modern art,
Two cities bound, yet worlds apart.

Chesapeake whispers, Portsmouth calls,
Through river winds and seagull squalls.
A bridge of steel, a lofty arch,
A Brooklyn dream in Dixie’s march.

The "Brooklyn Bridge of the South," they say,
A beacon where travelers find their way.
It holds the sky, it meets the tide,
SNJB, our steadfast pride.

THE END

study spots

Looking for “open late” places to go for studying. I get off of work at 5/6 most days and I’ve been looking for a comfortable spot to go do my studying after work bc sometimes I REALLY struggle to work at home. Most coffee shops close at 6/7 & I need more time than an hour or two. I know ODU Perry library is open to non-students but idk the hours for that & I’m also looking for more of a “public” place. Drinks/ food a plus. TIA.

HRSD / City Services Water Question

Hi all! I recently moved to Chesapeake and have been able to easily set up my VA Natural Gas and Dominion electricity accounts online to pay bills, but I have yet to receive an HRSD or water bill from Chesapeake city services. It's been over a month and I worry that I have an unpaid bill somewhere that I don't know about. Can you guys advise on how these services are set up?

Owning quail

I live in Greenbrier and I'd like to own quail. It's legal to own chickens in my ordinance, but not quail. Has anyone gotten special permission to have quail? And can point me in the right direction of who to petition for this?

Any rideshares that are actually cheap?

Hi, im not new to chesapeake but i am new to this reddit. Are there any incredibly cheap rideshares that are not lyft or uber? Both are like $20+ a ride from the portlock area to sentara leigh. Even with the "5 dollars off" they offer, they make it a point to be over $20 a ride.

Im trying to go up to the sentara leigh hospital to visit my mom who had a stroke, i personally dont drive because I have autism and ive been in a few traumatic car crashes. I just want to know what is the cheapest way to get up there, if anyone could offer advice that'd be wonderful.

Single family homes/condos??

Wondering if anyone has any insight on the actual, real life differences between a true single family home, and some of these new builds that look like single family homes, but are listed as condos?? They don’t share walls with neighbors, and by all accounts physically look like single family homes.

I do remember reading somewhere that that city had zoned a lot of land for condos rather than single family homes… So what is the difference? How are builders going about this? Are privacy fences around yards not allowed if they’re condos? Are there technically “no backyards”?? We have two dogs so a fenced in yard is a must.

Just looking for any nuisances that make these new builds condos! TIA!
