I recently moved to Chattanooga and was wondering if anyone knew places near UTC library where I can park for free? I have just realized that paying for parking is the norm but I just wanted to see if there were any hidden gems out there.

I currently live in Montana but am considering moving to Chattanooga mainly to be closer to my family in Birmingham, AL and also to live somewhere I can actually afford to buy a house. I love to recreate in the mountains and Chattanooga seems to be a good place where I can keep doing a lot of the things I do for fun (Camping, hiking, climbing, shooting). Although I will have to give up a couple of my favorite things like snowboarding and backpacking. Wondering what people like about living in Chattanooga and TN in general and things they don't like about it. Things I should know, cost of living, what's the dating scene like, job market, housing, etc. Any input is appreciated!
anyone down to get a hit in this weekend? weather looks nice and I've been wanting to find more tennis friends. I'm 36 m 3.5 but I'll play with anyone, hit my dms
If you have any money to send to East Tn for Hurricane Helene disaster relief consider donating! It seems like the community is going in pretty hard with physical items but money can service the communities a ton as well

These places provide such amazing services and access to nature and really need our help.
I’m putting on a comedy show in North shore! It’s gonna be a handful of Chattanooga local comedians and a few out of towners. Might be something fun for you to do this weekend. Thank you for your reading. Its 21+
Title says it all. Looking for friends who are into nerdy things but who also don't mind working out or going out on hikes or hanging out in town. Or trash talk each other in video games.
I'm a black male and have a few black male friends trying to date in their 30s in Chattanooga. I'm married so I can't relate, but they tell me they can't land white women and aren't sure why. They think it's race related but I'm not sure about that. I've spent a lot of time around them, they seem like pretty normal dudes so I'm not sure if the problem is them, race or something else. Do you think it's still a stigma here for white women to date black men? Do you think it's just a matter of not being considered attractive by white women? Or perhaps concern family won't approve? I'm just trying to get an idea on how to help because one friend is really down in depression about it and he's just very attracted to white women.
Any parks around here with a wall Ball wall? Looking to practice pickleball and hockey

What happened to Ashley ? She was my go to at firebirds!
Please know I mean no disrespect with this post whatsoever and I’m in need of some Chattanooga advice.
Me and my husband live in NYC. We love big cities because we love that there’s always something to do. I also grew up in Boston and it was somewhat similar.
My older brother bought a beautiful home outside Chattanooga a few years ago and we visit about 2x/year.
My husband and I have a hard time finding things to do in the area with the whole family (us, brother/SIL and their 2 young kids, my younger brother, and parents). The house barely gets WiFi, and as you can imagine my husband and I have a very hard time just sitting at home.
Are there activities that are fun we can bring everyone to? We’ve already explored Chattanooga and last year we were really excited that a Top Golf had just opened up nearby and we took the family and everyone had a blast.
I’ve tried to ask my brother/SIL, but they’re homebodies so I try to find fun family activities. Google doesn’t give me any good results either.
Of course my husband and I can just leave and go to bars but we want to spend time with my family and especially our nephews. We usually go in November and for Easter.
Would be extremely grateful for some suggestions! Something that’s fun for adults and children (not just children activities pls)
Great, yet infuriating, read about rental prices being driven by price fixing.
(Posting here since this post was removed from r/Chattanooga)
Essentially, in some cities, up to 70% of rental units are priced by a single software program (RealPage). The landlords allow the program to set rents, and since the software manages a large number of units, the software can inflate rents beyond the market demand. The author estimates:
In one of those RealPage affected cities, you should be paying $1579 instead of $2070, which is a difference of $491 per month.
I emailed a multi-family rental property manager in Chattanooga to see if they use the software, but it might not matter. There's an argument that once a single company controls rent for a large number of units, it essentially eliminates competitive rent because even non-affiliated landlords base their rent on the "going rate," which is set by the software. This means that the entire US rental market, including Chattanooga, may be influenced by the software.
Private antitrust lawyers filed multiple lawsuits, which were consolidated in Tennessee by 2023. Their argument “is that RealPage has been working with at least 21 large landlords and institutional investors, encompassing 70% of multi-family apartment buildings and 16 million units nationwide, to systematically push up rents.”
This is a great reminder that a thriving economy needs competition. If all the landlords collude rather than compete, then rents will rise beyond what the true supply/demand curve suggests. We end up with a $10 billion private equity-owned software company and record landlord profits. All the while, half of all renters are "cost-burdened" by rent.
Almost half of all renters (21 million rental households) are considered "cost-burdened" by their rent. This means they spend more than 30% of their income on housing costs in 2023.
Hopefully, these lawsuits have an effect, and Chattanooga rents come down...
