Looking for elementary school recommendations

Hi! I’m moving to Charlottesville from Germany in about a month and have a son in grade 2. He can speak English as well as Korean, so there shouldn’t be any language barriers.

I’m not sure on the process on how to enroll him into US public school aside from what I have found on google, but are there any recommendations for schools based on quality of education, quality of staff, and any extra considerations? We haven’t decided on a neighborhood yet since that will be based on the school we choose.

Any feedback is helpful!

Gunshots on Harris/Preston?

Anyone else hear them? Sounded like some drag racers or something at first...maybe some fully automatic fire, followed a few seconds later by maybe 4 or 5 shots. Another 5 shots a few minutes later, around 12:45am.

Missed Connection

I just left the Kendall Street Company concert tonight at the Jefferson after talking to a really nice guy and I regret not getting his number. I didn’t catch his name but we talked about plants and foosball, and I remember that his friend works at Gabriele Rausse winery. Our birthdays are also a day apart. Please feel free to DM me if you’re him and you’re interested :)

Where to buy incense?

Does anyone have any shops that have some nice and/ or cheap incense? I’ve seen some at the Green Cauldron on the Downtown Mall and a tiny bit at the Tea Bazaar. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Mortadella search

Is there anywhere in town that has good Mortadella? Or above average charcuterie in general? I checked foods of all nations with no luck, and the prepackaged boar’s head samplers I’ve gotten at grocery stores aren’t doing it for me.

Dentist?

New to Charlottesville and hoping to find a dentist in town that does affordable teeth cleanings. I have Virginia Medicaid, but all of the offices that accept Medicaid aren’t accepting new patients right now unfortunately. So if anyone knows somewhere to get a teeth cleaning for a reasonable price, please share below!

Access to Humpback Rock after Helene weather?

I’m planning to take my partner to humpback rock today, but I know there was some flooding in town and closure of the blue ridge parkway due to Helene. This may be a long shot, but does anyone know if the hike is accessible today? We are only in town for a couple days and live far away, so this will be our only chance to go for a while. I appreciate any info anyone can give!

Regular Doctors and Eye Doctors that Accept Medicaid

I'm trying to find a PCP that accepts Medicaid. I know it's difficult because Medicaid pays less and even if they accept it, they usually have a long waitlist before you can get help.

Anyone know what’s going on with all the cops and fire engines on Elliott across from the IX park entrance? There was someone on the ground in handcuffs I think and dozens of cops blocking all the routes around there.

Blenheim & Sixth Street Used Car Lot Rant

Just a rant and I usually try not to complain too much. But this older dude has turned sixth street into his personal used car lot, more like storage facility because he won’t sell anything. I am a car guy and usually don’t care, but there are so many now that whenever I try to go straight or turn left onto 6th from Blenheim I have to go into the middle of the road. Which gets a bit dodgy when a dirt bike is hitting 45 down 6th at midnight. When asked if he would consider moving one of the cars to be able to see down the road he said I should get my eyes checked so that didn’t go too well. Just a rant and stay safe out there Cville!

Pedestrian hit on 29S in front of Burton’s Grill/L.L. Bean

Looked like a group of 7 college age kids crossing 29 on foot. Did not see the accident but saw someone was badly injured and two cars pulled over trying to stop bleeding. Hoping the news will cover later with updates on if the person is okay.
