20 something female, sing a little bit and have busked in the past. Really trying to find community with young musicians in cville, but finding it hard to find post grad folks. Where are we gathering? Venues we’re going to? I’m more of an indie-pop/ indie-rock type. Not against going to venues alone and would love some recs. Thanks in advance!
Background:
GF lives in an apartment complex in town. I am a semi ambulatory wheelchair user. Their guest parking policy is such that guests overnight guests must park in designated visitors spots, none of which are accessible, or located anywhere close to her apartment. Resident parking is first come first serve, with frequently open spots directly in front of her unit. I stay over one night a week, and have a handicapped parking placard. Initially I was parking in front of her unit with no issue, but I gather they've started enforcing random towing, so now I'm forced to park .1 miles away, assemble my chair, and hope to god that no one parks next to me, versus just walking to her apartment on my canes by parking closer. I proposed that I display a designated guest pass, and my parking placard, and just park a bit closer. Management told me I could sign onto the lease, or otherwise kick rocks. We do not live together, I do not live there. I don't want to be held liable for her lease. I don't think I'm being unreasonable here. Who do I report the apartment complex to for lack of accessible guest spots?
Does anyone know (even outside albemarle) if there's a proper butcher shop? I'm talking about going outside of a grocery store to the meat department.
My wife had surgery so we can't go! Send me a message if interested! Anyone else a Tycho fan!?! Who all is going?
I got a mail-in ticket from late October, that shows my car doing "40 in a 25" in the Albemarle HS school zone. But clearly from the photos, I was in pretty dense traffic with cars all doing roughly the same speed. I NEVER, EVER speed in school zones. I couldn't believe I got this ticket. So I checked the timestamp and it's like 4:14pm and 15 seconds or so.
The school zone time apparently ends at 4:15pm, according to the camera sign. However, the yellow schoolzone lights were NOT flashing! So that sign must not be synced up to properly display until 4:15pm. This is a civil/private matter, it doesn't go on my license or anything...do I have any hope in fighting it? Or will they say, sucks to suck, you should worry about the tiny camera sign, not the official school zone flashing lights?
Since it's a private company, what's the worst that can happen if I don't pay? A warrant? Car getting booted? Credit score hit?
Have you or your City neighborhood asked for a traffic study or a crosswalk? Recently, I learned that a neighborhood in Charlottesville was ignored by the city government when they submitted a request for a traffic study in their neighborhood. They used the form provided by the government and followed all the instructions for filing the request. They diligently collected signatures, verified everything and sent it in. They heard nothing. Two years later, they inquired of the now acting traffic engineer if the request for a traffic study had been received. Again, no response.
I’d like to hear from people who’s requests of the city were either rejected or ignored. Thank you.
Is the intersection of Hydrolic and Route 29 resurfaced yet?
Hello! I’m often walking my dog through Washington Park and past Burley Middle School, and noticed this long-dead tree weighing down what looks like the baseball field’s lighting control panel power feed. I’m sure it’s been like this for a while… but does anyone have advice on how to go about reporting this? Seems worthy to report as a safety concern. Would it be through the school, the county, utility company, or another avenue? Thanks for your advice.
Hello! My wife and I had a child recently and she wants to move to Charlottesville to be closer to her family. I currently run a frame-to-finish carpentry company in MA. I’m wondering what the carpentry field is looking like right now in Charlottesville? I’ve been framing and trimming exteriors and interiors of custom Cape cod style homes for about 12 years now. Would like to continue in my field if possible.
My wife and I lived in Charlottesville right after we got married in ‘00, so she could go to grad school. While our time there was limited, we loved the place. I’ve got a chance to stop in the weekend after Thanksgiving this year as we will be driving to see family. I’m excited to show my two preteens the town, where we used to work, the fourth floor attic/apartment we lived in for a year, etc. I saw that I won’t be able to stop into Blue Ridge and grab those amazing Mennonite chocolate chip cookies (if anyone has a lead on them, let me know), but it looks like a few of my old downtown places are still around. I’m hoping to get a meat pie at Christian’s, let my son get a scoop from Chaps, and even get to see some of the work I did on the mall as a young architectural designer. What are some other highlights I should check out? (I have been back since ‘02, but only a few quick day “drop-ins”, and it was before our kids were born)
TIA
Interested in seeing the films but wd like to volunteer as an usher or in some other capacity so I can watch the movies. Tickets are very expensive! Edit: have reached out to SNP.
Around 9:30, from my house near Avon St in Belmont, someone in a loud truck wen flying up Avon St. He was repeatedly slowing down and then roaring up to speed again. I continued to hear him for several minutes even though he had left my area. It sounds like he went down Elliot toward 5th and then was racing all over that area. Eventually I also heard sirens.

Site makes it easy.
They group by location (and you can search by mediums -wood, clay, jewelery, textiles etc.).
Free and inspiring.
Often several different types of artisans in one location.
Great way to get out on nice weekend and also see unexplored areas.
Easy map to print and on street balloons/signs in the area. I am just a fan, but if you have a question, I will try to answer.
It’s a beautiful night, get out there!
Is the list of write-ins from elections ever made public? For example, a lot of people thought that the Virginia 5th would have a lot of write-in votes for Bob Good, and I wondered how one could find out.

Hello! I am moving to Charlottesville by the end of the month and I need a place to rent. I’m looking for stuff on the cheaper end, in reasonable commuting distance to uva, with male roommates. Does anyone have a room available or know anyone who might be renting?
Don' t freaking stop mid circle you planks!
Just watched this lady take a sip of her water and check her phone while miraculously cello music was still playing!! These grifters really need to get better at faking it
At least 10 dead or dying deer in the last couple weeks strewn about 250 between McIntire and Whole Foods … is this normal for Charlottesville? Can, uh, the city do anything to help?
What’s w/ traffic this morning? There’s a back up on the bypass going west. I took different routes to get home to Crozet….no luck going Ivy Rd. as the road is closed, there’s a truck stuck under the bridge at Old Ivy Rd. I had to go to Fontaine and get on 64 West to get home.
Hi! I'm solo parenting the week of Thanksgiving and there's no school. A lot of our usual buddies are traveling. If you have kids ages 7 (girl), 8 (boy), 11 (girl) or thereabout (especially looking for other 11 year olds, any gender for all ages) and want to team up to get the zooms out this Thanksgiving week, let me know! My kids are big on scooter, swimming, and some arts and crafts, but are open to whatever. Hiking is awesome for us too.
Is there anyone local that helps with a cyber security issue? It seems like so far at least my Facebook and email have been hacked and I have no idea what I’m doing.
Final update: Ivy Rd has reopened!
Ivy Rd appears to have reopened.
Spoke too soon. Wish VDOT would keep their traffic alerts updated.

This is driving me batty and I finally sat down with google maps hoping for a clear answer.
As you drive on Berkmar Extended, turn and drive west(-ish) on Rio Mills.
When you get to the stop sign (rio Mills & Earlsyville Road) near the Earlysville Oak, look west(-ish) and there is 1 triangular-shaped mountain, closer than all the others. Way closer.
Tracing from Google Maps, I am thinking maybe, it is where Our Lady of Angels is?
Buck Mountain seems too far north on the map...
I am hoping a local / local hiker might know for sure.
Thanks!
Update:
Using Google Street View (@ Earlysville Oak) I made a VERY half-assed grab of the peak in question @ https://imgur.com/a/zHkZmDF
