Hello. I am looking for northern names. This is for a story, and it Will be set in a northerm country, most likely Finland or norway. It can be any gender.
i've struggled to name one character!!! She has a sister named Rose Moraine and she has a kind of steampunk vibe but also is very strongly tied to fire. I was thinking something beginning with s or t but i cant find any that fit her.
Hi I'm writing a book and need a lot of Swedish names (or anything for surrounding countries works too) so does anyone have any suggestions? First and last names work!
im making a story and I have a character named celeste (the FMC) and I need her main love interest to have like a RoMaNtic 🌹🌹🌹nickname for her. Any ideas? Cece is what her friends call her and I’m looking for something unique or special
BASICALLY MY UPCOMING OC HAS LIKE HAIR THAT IS BLACK FADING TO BLUE FADING TO WHITE AND SHE HAS A KIMONO ON THATS WHITE BLACK AND PURPLE AND HER LEFT EYE IS A STAR ANF THE RIGHT SIDE OF HER FACE IS RIPPED APART TO REVEAL MULTIPLE EYES INSIDE AND SHE HAS BLACK WINGS ON HER HEAD I JUST MADE THIS FUCKER UP WHEN I WAS MESSING IN CATALOG AVATAR CREATOR IN ROBLOX AAAAAAJDHDJSKDJFKDMDMDMDMF
The story is set today, and he is a guy. I’d like the names to be a bit unique, but not extremely special. I’d like them to be kind of winter/snow-ish.
I really like the idea of naming my character Lethia, due to the meaning of it being ‘oblivion or forgetfulness’. However since the character is quite young (teenage girl) and is working class and quite an informal person in general, i feel like the name is a bit too obscure or whimsical to fit into the story. Id like to give her this name and maybe create a backstory around why she was named something so obscure, however for the main story i’d like her to have a slightly more common or informal sounding nickname. Any thoughts?
I have had this persona character for a really long time and she had had the name Yuki chisuke. The name however no longer fits her as she has just gone through a very big redesign to keep her updated to me. I do however want to turn chisuke into a separate character and name her redesigned self something else. the newer version in an octopus hybrid and so i wanted the name to have something to do with the ocean. the monster part would be becasue she has a "inside out form" that turns her into a horrid looking monster. Im having trouble finding a name that would fit her though.
I've got two sisters in my WIP right now whose names are Persephone and Pandora. They both have neutral but leaning more masculine nicknames, Percy and Andy.
There's also a third sister though, Pasithea, and I just can't find a nickname that fits in with her sisters'. I did kinda like Sid, but I'm concerned that it's a bit of a stretch, also only one syllable.
What do the people here think? (Also trying r/namenerds)
Hello! I came up with this concept a while ago and thought I might as well make a full character out of it but Im horrible at names and can’t think of a good one.
The concept is a mermaid who’s obsessed with the human world and loves learning about them (you now see where this came from) but instead of helping shipwrecked/lost at sea sailors she kidnaps them, drags them down to her grotto, and murders/dissects them to know more about their anatomy. I want her name to relate back to being water related while also being death/murdery if that makes sense? Ive nicknamed her Anti-Ariel but i want a cool name for my murder fish
I'm writing a story where it's the modern world but with a lot more magic, and magic is just widely accepted. A character I'm writing (my favorite character) needs a name! He's a trans demiboy so the name should be modern and kind of androgynous. They have blue-gray moth wings with a bit of purple. I'm really excited to write him, but I don't have any good names. Any help is appreciated!
Update: Last name is Forest if that matters
I really really like giving my characters names with fitting meanings, but I can never find anything good by browsing! All names tend to be very cliche and non-consistent and never fit any of my vibes, any advice??
Right now I'm looking for a girls name for a short tale that means something along the lines of reconnecting, rediscovering, restoring or legacy. Her main point is reconnecting with her ancestry and past to rediscover herself and find answers. I want preferably short names, more eastern/mediterranean vibes. Would also love if it has any connection with nature or roots.
I know its kind of specific, but it doesn't have to cover everything, just fit nicely in the story and give a vague idea of who my mc is. Thanks for helping!!
Edit: I misspelled stuff, Im clumsy on phones
I have two characters for a Keeper of the Lost Cities fanfic. You don't need to have read the books, but I need middle names. Cerelia Jennings Jayden Amartum
Heyy, i am currently developing a fantasy story and looking for a name for the main character and secondary main character. They are both guys, one of them is a wizard(not typical, more this worlds kind) and the other is a knight in training. I’d like them to be a bit celestial and/or Nature theres, but dont have to.
Help! I need your opinion on a name I made for a royal Character in my story, the name is Princess Amelia Anne Henry Victoria Edwina Owen Boleyn Tudor
This character is named after her mother and father's family King Henry VIII and Queen Anne Boleyn and she will just use her first name Amelia.
Thanks
I need to give my stupid silly newly-created oc a name. She's basically a pastel clown with a DNA ball fidget for both her nose and abdomen. I CANNOT THINK OF ONE THAT FITS HER
Going to play a dungeons and dragons character who is a Warforged (Robot) who was a soldier programmed to kill who got knocked out in battle for years and was overtaken by mushrooms, then woke up long after the war he fought in ended and gained sentience, who now is a wise druid who uses fungal attacks and powers and says cryptic stuff about the circle of life. Name ideas?
Looking for a last name that goes with Jack, but also works as part of an allusion to jack o'lantern in the full name. So it would have to be a last name that means fire, burning, brightness, light, light keeper, etc.
My main chapter is a 16 yr old girl with superpowers. She’s got amber eyes, and long dark hair that changes colour according to her emotions. She wears mostly fitted black clothes, with a variety of dragon themed jeweller, partly bc she loves dragons and partly as they protect her from becoming overwhelmed by her powers. Her powers are closely tied to her memories, and very strong. She attends a prestigious villain school (fantasy book) and comes from a long line of well known villains, so her last name would be something dark/powerful, preferably 2-4 syllable. Her first name could be to do with anything, as long as it’s fantasy themed (but not ridiculously so).
So far I’ve come up with Lyra, Storm, Raven and Ophelia for first name ideas and Blackthorn, Emberlyn and Nightshade for surnames.
So, i'm creating a Story of a Vigilante/Anti-Hero that is very Brutal, Selfish, and very Arrogant who kills the worst people of all, like Psychos, Corrupts, Pedophiles etc. His Parents and younger Siblings were killed by an orchestraded plot by Corrupt people, after that he joined a Task Force where he became one of the best of all. Years later he left the Task Force and started a Crusade to seek those who killed his Family and anyone who cross his Path. I got inspired by The Punisher and Batman in creating this character and kinda already though a name for him, like ''The Reaper'', and because he's considered by the people as ''Death's incarnation'' but it sounded lame to me.
Hi guys! I really need some help with naming a new character. I'm looking through the list of names from her culture and nothing seems perfect just yet. I'd like if she could have a name that doesn't need to be nicknamed but easily can — think Gabriella, except I'm not fond of that as it doesn't seem to match her siblings and it'll be nicknamed Gabby which I'm not fond of.
I have a short list of names but some don't have a nickname, at least not one I can see, or might need to be the nickname. I'm not interested in names beginning with A, C, G or N.
She'll also have two middle names, neither of which I'm fully decided on. The first middle name is just the choice of the parents and the second is an "honour name" which is traditionally after someone who either died to the capital or participated in the rebellion. Her surname is Gaunt or Gaunt Nightlock & her family is one of the wealthiest.
Her parents are Callan & Cyanne. Her siblings are Ayesha & Nikolai.
My current options, but I'm willing to accept other ideas for all categories! Or if you can think of a full name for Theia that isn't Althea I'd love that.
The first — Elisea, Ismerie, Cleotha, Theia, Thinxa, Lisana, Laraia, Bilancia, Kofira, Isotta.
The possible middle names — ^^ same as above but these can begin with A if necessary.
The possible honour names — Esme is all I have right now ... other suggestions welcome & I'll make it the name of someone who impacted the rebellion.
Thank you for your suggestions! Common names here aren't really used there but I can alter names to better fit my world if I like it enough. Thank you! 🫶🏻🩷
Hi, I'm writing a fantasy book and need help with male names. I have nine main characters and as the story grew the names changed. I need three male names that have fantasy elements but aren't fully fantasy if that makes sense. I would also like them to be based on ethnic names as two of those characters are POC and I want to honour that through their names (the third I haven't chosen figured out his race so suggest anything). The character's original names were Xavier (black), Eugene (East Asian), and Cassian (unknown) but I feel they are not fantasy enough and stand out from the other names. But to help the other character names are Celeste, Diviya, Jordon, Ezra, Saffron and Phineas.
Hi folks! I need middle names for a girl but I'm at a loss :/. I originally went Dior but due to the surname being a popular designer brand, like Dior, and also beginning with D, people didn't like it. & tbh I also don't much like it anymore. I have a lot of criteria that makes it hard to find a perfect name especially due to the surname! If you're going to be mean about the criteria please just skip.
As the surname is also heavily associated with Harry Potter, that's a definite no as well, so no Harry Potter names or designer names! I'm also not interested in nature names due to the social circle having too many of them, I'm not interested in gender neutral names or names that are too long (more than 6 letters, I can maybe accept 7). I'm not interested in names beginning with S, A or D with a preference of avoiding R as well. I'm not interested in names that begin with "No". I'm not interested in common names like Emily, Haley or Chelsea but I would like them to be recognised names or simple to pronounce names. It can't be in the top 100 but it can be in the top 1000. It can't be any well-known celebrity.
I'd like names that are elegant and sound good and also could work for a pageant queen which she'll one day end up becoming but will also sound good in a casual context and don't immediately make you think of a pushy entitled girl. It also has to sound modern.
Her first name is going to be Sina. Her family is Italian but I'd like French names if possible but Italian names are alright too. Tbh I'm not too bothered about the origin of the names but French or Italian are preferred, but as long as the name isn't cultural appropriation it can be whatever!
Hi! I originally was going with Crysan but unfortunately realised that Crysan is sadly too similar to Christian who is a well-known criminal in their country and the father of the mother.
I'm also open to giving the couple more daughters too. I'm a little against anything too common just going by what my characters names already are and what the parents' preferences are. The current daughter is Orchid & they're French.
The common flower names like Lily, Rose, Daisy, etc are already used in the novel so definitely no too common names. I prefer shorter names so nothing like Magnolia. Thank you.
Edit: Aster, Azalea, Sage & some others are also a no due to already being used.
Hi everyone! I’m working on a story set in the 1940s, and my main character is a 12-year-old girl named Dorothea. She’s half-angel, half-demon (though she doesn’t know it yet), and I’m struggling to come up with the perfect last name for her.
I’m looking for something that feels subtle but still meaningful, possibly hinting at her angelic nature. Nothing too on-the-nose, just something that fits her mysterious and complex background.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions!
Thanks in advance!
I am making an enemy for D&D, who the players COULD turn to their side and become friends with if they did the right things. He’s basically a sentient purple suit, his “head” is just more of the same purple cloth that comes up from the neck, and then flops over like one of those “old timey” sleep hats, and it has a little gold jingle bell at the end of it. He’s a guy, but gender is not a concern with naming him. I kinda want something fabric or crafting related, my ideas so far are Ragtag, Cotton, and Yester (short for polyester). Im open to suggestions or just voting between the ideas I already have!
Hi! I'm just at the beginning of fleshing out who my characters really are, and thought some of them needed middle names. I've looked a lot through name websites but I can't really find anything that sticks out to me. I want to avoid common middle names, but not have names that are too out there. The story is set in present day Scotland.
Violet McLeod
Taran Lawrence
Carmine Caspian (preferably not anything beginning with c or a vowel)
Hello, I am creating a background for writing a detective genre book.
I am thinking of having two protagonists. The setting is undecided but anywhere in the 90s.
The first guy is a Genius detective, but physically under average.
The second guy is a martial arts freak(really strong), but an average detective so he can't figure out patterns, riddles, etc
I need names for these two. Also, I have completed the Antagonist completely, so he could be broken hero-ish or Pure evil, etc..,... give a name for him too.
I NEED NAMES 😔😭🔍
I named the first guy, Markus Darkwood and the second guy Lucius Light....(they are counterparts of each other)
I just named the third guy Victor Grant. idk give me more name ideas and also names for some more characters because I'll have more characters in the story like the cop, nobles, and anyone the Villain is working with, etc etc
edit: i know the names are edgy asf, I need help 🫸🏼🫷🏼 🥰
Hi ... so, I have a novel that's inspired by Greek Mythology, Norse Mythology & Roman Mythology. It's somewhat similar to novels such as Percy Jackson where there is one immortal parent & one non-immortal parent.
I am, however, struggling to name the child of a battle deity, both first and last. All the options I'm able to come up just don't feel right. All I have is that their sister from over two thousand years ago was named Runa & that their current stepbrother is called Rhyfel. Their father is called Aloysius & is the Creator (similar to a god but different - the Creators come before the gods in this book) of battle. NOT to be confused with war, as that is Viyna (Aloysius' wife).
I'll put some names I have so far and what their parent represents in brackets just as an example of what the vibe is. Common names are a no and anything that is a translation of a connected word into anything language is preferred. Thank you. The examples:
Safire Angelou (Poetry), Artesania Leach (Craft), Lepota Franco (Beauty), Rhyfel Caesar (War), Jacayl Nixon (Romance), Audra Benoit (Storms), Jazmyn Prater (Ocean) — that kind of thing.
I'm even open to completely made up names. Any new suggestions for Lepota are also appreciated but I can keep Lepota if necessary. It's a mythological fantasy set in 4328 AD.
Hello, I'm trying to decide on a name for my main character. Back story is, no one knows she's a serial killer. She has a normal job(retail manager), kids, a family. She's sassy, cunning, intelligent. She technically could check all of the boxes for a profile of a serial killer. Her parents aren't around. I plan on making her last name around her first name. Here are the few that I am considering right now. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to let me know. I didn't want something that is super common (Olivia, Emma, Ellie's(any of them), Hazel, Lydia, etc.) Story is set in the United States.
Artemis
Harley
Mabel
Mallory
Octavia
Sage/Saige (My most popular name on the list, I just like it.)
Sasha
Tatum
Thea
Vera
Vesper (Met a little girl the other day with this day and she was just so spunky, sassy, everything lol.)
I had alot more on my list at one point. Names like Irena, Sadie, Alessia, Arden, Lucia. I just ended up hating all of them. Lol. Thanks to anyone that has an opinion or thinks of any other name ideas.
