Proposal

Anyone know some good spots on Grand or Little Cayman to propose to my girlfriend at? I’ve been a couple times and the only spot I can think of is the pier at Rum Point. I know there’s got to be several beautiful spots though. Any tips?

Golf Course green fees?

I’m visiting in a couple weeks and I’m wondering about green fees. I see there are only 2 courses, the Ritz and North Sound.

What are their green fees like? Are the courses worth playing? Any tips from regulars at the courses?

Drug screening

Hi guys,

I am starting a job imminently with the HSA and have been told they will do a forensic drug screening. I recently went to Amsterdam and I am very worried they will do a hair sample, has anyone got any experiences with the drug screening?

Thank you

Hotel Indigo

My family of four (kids are 19 & 21) is headed to Hotel Indigo later this month. I can’t decide whether to rent a car or not. How walkable is the area for places to eat, etc? Also, what would the best way to get there from the airport without a car?

We haven’t been to Grand Cayman in almost 20 years and are mostly planning on relaxing at the beach and snorkeling. In the past we did Stingray City with Captain Marvin’s and the Turtle Farm. We are planning on Stingray City but not sure about the Turtle Farm. We are mostly outdoorsy and not into fancy dining. Thanks in advance for any tips or recommendations!

Recommendations on Cayman Brac?

I am visiting Cayman Brac next month for my honeymoon. Any recommendations for restaurants or must-see places? Hoping to eat great food, see the beauty of the Brac & maybe get massages.

Also is Uber or Lyft available on Cayman Brac? (Apologies if someone already asked these questions & I missed it.)

Tipping

Day one first impression the island is beautiful we’re staying on the east end. We ate at Tukka restaurant for dinner the food was really good btw. We were charged the tipping percentage automatically. Are we required to tip again on top of that? Asking because the receipt was asking for an additional tip.

Do I need to apply for a Cayman Visa?

  • Indian passport
  • Traveling from NY
  • Have H1B visa in US (no greencard)
  • Visit for 2 days as a tourist

I see conflicting information where some say greencard and other websites say you just need a visa from US and need to travel from there… which one is correct?

Disappointing starfish point experience

Was at starfish this afternoon and had some weird experiences.

We were walking out from the beachy area at the far west end and red sail passengers were out looking at some starfish and putting them on their arms under water to let the starfish start wrapping around, then taking them off. I walked over with my daughter and they asked if she wanted to do it, to which I replied you really aren't supposed to touch them (which is true according to the signs on the beach). They said their boat guides said it's fine as long as they don't take them out of the water. I know technically that's true, but it seems tourists take that as permission to manhandle them under the water.

Next we're floating at the end of the line of boats, still at the very west end of the point on the beachy area. We were in 5-6 ft of water about 15 ft past the last boat when all of a sudden a sapphire watersports boat started backing up maybe 3-5 feet north of us and yelling for us to watch out. I got a little pissed and told them there was plenty of room they could have gone further up as we were wading at the end of the line of boats. They just kept telling us to move, even when we moved further toward the shore.

Then I watched them roam around the beach and find the two starfish we saw earlier which were in about 2 ft of water and maybe 50 ft from their boat. The guide grabbed them and quickly surfed them along the water surface (technically not all the way out of the water I guess, but I could definitely see the legs partly out) to his boat 50 ft away. He was basically running with just his hands in the water palms up holding the starfish.

I can definitely see why there are so few starfish out there now. I'm thinking about contacting red sail and the Ritz (home of Sapphire watersports) and letting them know what I experienced. Doubt it will do any good though.

Decent body shop for Honda Fit

So our 2018 Honda Fit had a little meeting with an invisible wall in a car park, and the rear bumper panel and rear trunk panel have a pretty deep dent and a slight scratch.

Where would people recommend to get it pulled out and looking good again?

It doesn’t need to be an absolute platinum factory finish / full body respray etc., just somewhere reliable and that will turn around the job fairly quickly and make it look presentable.

Thanks in advance.

Refused temporary work permit

Hello Guys! I don't know what happened but my temporary work permit has been Refused. As per the HR, They told me that it is due to the reason that I didn't met the required experience for the position (Supervisory role). And the HR told me that they will do whatever it takes to make sure that it will be approved next time they submit the application. But there still a chance of being refused for the second time.

Just wanna know if what are the possible ways to ensure that my permit will be approved.Im currently on Island and just recently resigned.

Hope you can give some insights regarding this matter. Thanks guys

Stop the Entitlement !

I was at an excellent resort looking around for empty beach chairs with my family . I asked the attendant and he located some for us. A couple of hours later a family returns fully dressed from the hotel area and accused me of taking their chairs. I explained to them that the attendant guided us there. There was one towel placed there and they were not at the beach. I explained to them they couldn’t hoard chairs like that. People leave their towels on the chairs all the time and then leave. They were outraged and started insulting me. I thought grand cayman had more seasoned travelers , nonetheless respectful. I believe these were definitely an exemption. They seemed to be of Indian descent and they definitely look down on others. What a little bit of money can do to some people. They were also giving that example to the little ones in the group. What an embarrassment. If I was of another race or lighter skinned than them, they wouldn’t have dared. Call it what you want but I’ve seen situations like this over and over.

Visiting this Friday

Hello all, visiting this Friday from Texas, USA. Looks like it’s very windy hopefully we have no travel issues. Should we book tours ahead of time? Or is it best to book them when we’re there?

Barista Course

Does anyone know if there are any Barista courses that are being currently offered on island? Not looking for any formal training (business/employment), just something I’m interested in learning on my free time.

Poutine with cheese curds

Is there anywhere on island that sells poutine with real cheese curds? Any time I've ordered it here they'll serve it with melted regular cheese.

Why is a Cayman Islands abbreviation "KY"?

Hey all, I'm just curious here ...

Cayman Island dollars are usually presented as KYD (or CID or CI$). In trying to google why KY makes sense here, I can't find any explanation (compare Wikipedia).

While searching, I also noticed that KY is the domain-level for the Caymans. But again I can find no explanation (Wikipedia). Plus the Cayman Dollar pre-dates the internet.

Finally it occured to me that maybe the Spanish for a caiman (gator) starts with a K. But it doesn't.

Anyone know why they use KY?

P.S. This subreddit requires a flair, but none of them seem to fit. Moderators, may I suggest adding a flair like "Other" or "Question".

PSA - Mambo Italiano

Just checked out Mambo Italiano with a group of friends yesterday. Vibe was great, food was absolutely awful - ridiculously small portions, undercooked meat despite it being sent back more than once. Music was really good however. Just absolutely not worth it from a food perspective - was with someone who went a few months back and it seems like they’ve really cheapened the menu.

Traveling to cayman next week with a 2 and 4 year old. Looking for playground recommendations as well as other things they’d like. Starfish point already on the list. I recognize options are probably limited lol

Visiting with family in March, looking for recommendations to impress my kids

This is a very open-ended question/request.

I love snorkeling and at least one of my daughters will, too. I'm not sure about the other one. We'll be staying on Seven Mile Beach. Please share any recommendations for destinations or tours or whatever that would make a 16-year-old girl say, "wow, this is amazing." We'll also be travelling with my 75-year old mom and stepdad, who visit Cayman every year, so if I can impress them too, it'd be a double win.

Whatcha got, Reddit?
