The lion is a type of big cat native to the African savanna and plains of India. Male lions have manes of long fur around their necks and are larger than females, which are called lionesses.

Lions live and hunt in packs called prides, usually with one mature male and several females with their cubs.

Lionesses do the bulk of the hunting for the pride, whereas the male lions hang around for protection from other large cats, humans, and other threats to the family.

The male lions, when they reach adulthood maturity, leave their home pride to find a new one, then challenge the lead male of the pride found elsewhere. Lions are very territorial and can have keep dozens of square miles in their territory.

When a new adult male lion wins a challenge for another lead male's pride, he will murder all the cubs fathered by the old leader to send the lionesses into estrus, then mate with the lionesses to sire new cubs.

Crazy, right?

Lions can hunt zebra, wildebeest, giraffes, caribou, buffalo, and even larger prey or other predators. Since their habitat has been encroached upon by humans, the lions suffer from stress caused by this, which is the reason that lions killing jaguars, leopards, cheetahs, or other large or medium sized cats continues to become an increasing problem.

Lions sleep for around twenty hours a day, spending the rest of the time socializing, hunting, and eating. They can present a threat to a single human, although lions would be much less likely to attack a large group of humans.

Think you would win a fight with a lion? I doubt! Adult lions in the wild range from between 280 and 420 pounds. My 7 pound cat can win a fight with me, so I don't think I'd stand a chance!

Known as The Ghost of the Mountain, the snow leopard is an incredible predator with giant, fluffy paws.

The tufts of fur between their toes help keep their feet warm in the snow of the Himalayas, where many of these leopards live and hunt. These tufty toes also help snow leopards move in silence, since any sound over a certain elevation may cause an avalanche of snow off the mountainside.

Snow leopards can leap down from fifty or more feet above their prey, aiming to grab the animal, usually a mountain goat or similar, directly by the jugular to complete the kill. This technique prevents any scream from escaping the prey animal, again, to prevent avalanche at the high elevation in which the snow leopards live.

With large ears resembling satellite dishes, the elusive snow leopard moves in near-complete silence, which is why it is called The Ghost of the Mountain.

You wouldn't know the snow leopard was stalking you until much too late.

I'm not 100% on this please fact check before telling someone anything but cats learn through habits and repetitive like if you use the oven often then your cat(s) will call to you when the oven goes off or if your constant on your sleep and you decide to stay up your cat will be confused another example is a cat can have a sense of times for example my grandma had three cats and at first around 6 pm she called them for soft food as a treat then they started waiting at 6 in the kitchen calling out to get her to feed them in time cats learn they have choices and they can get you to do things and if you live with a four year old they act just like a cat I know this because my brother as far as I know has the brain of a four year old thanks to an accident and he acted thought like a cat would

So 5 days ago I took my male cat to the vets as I noticed he had blood in his litter box i watched him go to the toilet and seen it was from his private area (there was also wee with the blood) I explained this to the vets they asked how his behaviour was I said the only difference is he’s going in and out the box a lot they asked about eating and drinking I told them he’s eating all his food and drinking a good amount a day they gave him a injection in the back of his neck gave me some pain relief tablets to take for 3 days and a liquid to give him for 5 days.

I instantly noticed he wasn’t using the bathroom no where near as much as he was before the medication every chance I’ve had I’ve looked in litter to observe any blood and all was okay until today there was a little bit of blood again😣😢I really don’t know what to do is this normal… he is on a little bit of dry food I’ve read a lot today and people are saying just wet food and water please help me I am so stressed out and I never want my cat to be in pain or discomfort.

There is a Japanese legend who talks about a method to find cats that have left the house and never come back.

The technique is to talk to the street cats in the neighborhood as if you would talk to anyone and ask them about your cat, describe it and it is, their hair tone, even tell th what it's called, ask them to help you find it, tell him how much you love him and how much you want him to come home.

They will communicate with each other to help your cat return home.

It is a good idea to keep your seatbelt loosely fastened even after the captain has turned off the seatbelt sign.

Well, it's been four days.

The vast majority on my previous post have said they prefer the subreddit to be open, but not stick to its previous rules. Therefore I have edited the rules.

There are two types of /r/CatFacts post.

1. Unverifiable facts about felines. Post anything which sounds like a real cat fact. If it can be independently verified though, we don't want it! Get that outta here, I only want alternative cat facts.

Examples:

"Cats don't actually sleep that much, they just don't want you to bother them"

"Calico cats have been proven to be significantly more evil than all other types of cat"

2. Verifiable facts about all non-feline cats.Examples:

"The heavy machinery company bobcat ended a 7-year-relationship with Doosan in 2018, when Doosan partnered instead with Hyundai."

I'll stick my head in occasionally to check on the chaos, but without my preferred methods of accessing Reddit I'm unlikely to do so with any frequency.

Participants will view images of cats in different settings and respond to questions related to the cat’s perceived status, the cat’s emotional state and their own emotional response to viewing each image. Ahoy there CatFacters.

We blacked the sub out for two days during the protest. That doesn't seem to have done anything, and this means we must now consider what the future of this sub will look like.

Personally, I'm disgusted with Reddit as a company. I've begun migrating my browsing away, and expect to shortly leave and never return. Honestly, it makes me sad to do so, but it is, to me, the better choice among bad choices. This leaves me with a choice to make regarding the sub.

As that little pigboy /u/Spez seems not to understand, I'm no despot, and I want to know what the 5355 readers of the sub think should happen. We have low enough engagement that I want to do this via discussion in the comment section than polling. However, to facilitate that discussion, here are a few options, following the trends we're seeing in other subs.

1. Permanent blackout. I make the sub private. Either the admins force it open or someone will create /r/CatFacts2, but that forceful or sidestepping action will always exist.

2. Malicious compliance. The sub does not black out but does institute some silly rule making it unfit for purpose. I'm not sure how we could fit John Oliver in, but I'm open to suggestions.

3. No change. The sub remains open. I'll remove myself as head mod and someone will need to step up, eventually. I'll be honest with you - all the mods are me in some alt or another. Please note, if this is the option you want, you don't necessarily have to be the person who steps up to mod.

So, I want your thoughts. I'll engage in the comments here.

Decision will be made in four days.
