Adulting

Is anyone actually able to keep on top of things . Married with kids, life admin, work admin, house being kept clean, car being kept clean, making lunches, so many snacks, dinners, appointments for doctor/dentist, homework, cleaning and more cleaning. My house is a constant mess and if I don’t dedicate a couple of hours to cleaning each day it will be the entire weekend. I feel like everyone else has their shit together. How do you juggle everything?

Things are finally looking up!

The last couple of years (COVID and post COVID) have been a rollercoaster to say the least, but last year kicked me hard when I was down!! During COVID, my long term relationship, where I was engaged and had a house bought collapsed (for the good,no kids involved). I gave up on a legal persuit of the house to leave the situation I was in and get a clean break/slate. Rented in horrendous conditions, lost my job due to cutbacks and struggled with my mental health after multiple losses of both family and friends.

Post COVID, I returned to an old job I love but does not pay too well despite perception, when rising bills and rent are due, struggled extremely hard when screwed over by "buying" customers.

By the grace of god I stumbled upon a career I would never have thought possible, a "luxury" career that brought me around the world, but my genuine smile and laughter was not there for a very long time!!! With the mounting debts I had,it was in one hand and out the other, but at least I was able to cover the rent, bills and debts...that was until I was made homeless almost overnight. That was the straw that broke my back after I could not find another place to rent, I worked hard and long since I was 15, I had a fractured relationship with the majority of my family, and I had nowhere to really turn to, while trying to keep up appearances for work.

A family member took me in, but after everything, I genuinely struggled to put on any sort of a smile on, I had not had a genuine laugh for years at this stage, I showed up to my job when needed, put on my fake smile and extroverted personallity but I struggled extremely hard with my mental health and turned to drinking in my room alone most nights as work started to be a here and there sort of thing and mainly a part time at max as I started to refuse alot of work. I was just starting to get out of the "rut" I was in, I had a good job lined up that would allow me to do both jobs, when that family member who took me in took a turn for the worse, and had a major health event. Things have been extremely tough to say the least!!

But things are now finally looking up 🙏 The family member is in good recovery! And this week, I had an outpouring of emotions as I was offered my "dream job", A near completely remote job where I gain skills in an industry I know very well at this stage and have plenty of contacts in, while also being able to travel and commit to my "part time" contract. When I got the call to say I start next week, I had such a rush of emotions. I had a proper smile for the first time in a very long time, I had a genuine laugh, and then I broke into tears!! Everything over the last couple years has been a major high followed by a major low, so I am not taking this for granted!! But after everything, I am so fucking happy and emotional right now!!!

Open thread of an evening

Experiment concluded!

Had a good day? Had a shite day? A wonderful idea strike you while you queued for the bus on the way home? Tell this tiny part of the world about it. It's like screaming into the void only calmer and more casual.

SENT THE WRONG FILE TO A CUSTOMER

Was having bit of spat over email with a customer over an original copy of a particular form.

I was about to take the upper hand and win the argument when I went back rather aggressively with the “you can clearly see the info is here on the attached.”

Accidentally sent them my doctors prescription for something little embarrassing which I forgot I had just scanned a few mins prior. Sitting here laughing about it now fs lol happy Friday.

How do you reseal your loaf of bread at home?

Wondering how you reseal your loaves of bread?

Sae my neighbour uses bulldog clips and clothes pegs, while we are fiddling around reusing the little Best Before date plastic strip that they used in the factory.

Winner is u/jaundicechuck's Nan's condom method

A rant about train etiquette!

I don’t know what’s happened in the last year, but I’ve noticed on my daily commute when a train pulls into the station people on the platform have no patience and are just bursting past the passengers exiting the train. Usually it’s one or two people getting off at each door and a load more getting on.

This morning, myself and another passenger were pushed back by people trying to get on the train. It wasn’t as if there was a mad rush for seats because the train was practically empty.

Just wait a fucking minute, let the people off and then get on, it’s not that difficult. What’s the worst that could happen? You don’t get a seat and have to spend 20-25 minutes standing, god forbid. I honestly thought it was common knowledge, let people off public transport before you get on.

Might not be causal enough but deepseek ai hates bono

Just talking to it about it with Ireland relationships with China, mentions how Irelands policy’s played a role in China development then it started complaining about Ireland UN Security Council seat which I responded wasn’t representative of Ireland goal which it described Ireland as an annoyance but not a threat, I responded you see Ireland gets stuff done by annoying, which it agreed on me that was how it summed up Ireland. Overall I find it’s slight more friendlier then OpenAI version, a bit more open to making a joke just sometime it’ll go on a rant about something then delete itself.

Lads wtf is up with Doritos now

Just opened a bag and instead of being greeted with crispy triangles of chili goodness, all there was inside was barely seasoned spongey tortillas that tasted like the aldi rip offs 💔💔

What was your first Job?

Official like on the cards job.

My mate got a job in a bakery just after leaving cert.

I hounded him to ask for me and he got me a job.

Collected at 3.45am and bussed to a bakery somewhere in Ballymount.

Spent the about 7 hours brushing flour off raw dough passing on a slow conveyor, then at end of the shift was promoted to trays and ovens where I had to load the raw dough blobs on to trays and place them into ovens.

Did one day. Didn't show the next day. Decided it wasn't for me. Got a postal order for £14 a few weeks later and a P45.

Horrendous job.

My mate was pissed off

Am I so weird for having a tuna melt from the deli?

Almost every time I get a roll from the deli this happens. "White roll, butter, tuna, sweetcorn, onion, cheese, toasted, cut in half." that's my order, I get the same order every time, a few times a week. My blood is probably half mercury at this point. At any rate, it's pretty likely that after the deli professional puts the tuna, corn, onion and cheese in, they'll ask me what chicken I'd like in it. I say "No chicken", and I've been asked countless times with an incredulous voice "NO CHICKEN!? You want NO CHICKEN!?"

Somehow I'm the weird one for not wanting chicken fillet pieces in my tuna roll. Please tell me I'm not the only one who likes tuna rolls? If not, what on Earth is the tuna in the deli even for?

Which movie would you rather watch and why?

Which movie would you rather watch and why?

A comedy-drama called Somewhere with Elephants:

Three estranged brothers have two days to drive their autistic younger brother across the country to their mother’s funeral and break the news to him of her passing.

A fantasy-drama called Garden of Whispers:

A sharp-witted teenager journeys through 24 dramatizations of classical poems to attempt to uncover a hidden allegory—which foretells a terrible future for her—so she can try to prevent it.

Ohk Energy

That Ohk energy ad with Caelan Doris is awful. Probably the worse ad read I've heard in ages.

That's the post, anyone else feel the same?

Nosferatu yay or nay?

Going to see Nosferatu tomorrow on my own and I’m feeling 50/50 about it. Part of me is excited because I want to see it and it’s my type of film but have seen some bad reviews for it also.

Have you seen it? What did you think?

Best place for a pint

Will be staying in Dublin next month Thursday through Sunday for a course. Staying in the Mespil Hotel. Where's good to go for a pint by myself in the evening?

Edit; Cheers all looks like a pub crawl is in order!!

Where are people looking for jobs after college?

Mostly a post directed to people who have graduated college recently, but I’m just wondering where do you look for jobs?

I’ve been looking primarily on LinkedIn because Indeed hasn’t been the best. Graduated from college a few months ago and it’s just been me scouring the jobs section of the app.

I know some people got their jobs through internships or grad programs but what about the ones that didn’t?

I’m looking for another place to look I feel like LinkedIn isn’t enough

Note: I didn’t graduate with a law, business, any type of finance, or computer science degree.

Is this actually the same as Lilt?

It tastes a lot different. Too much grapefruit, not enough pineapple and not nearly as fizzy.

St. Paddy’s day staples

I’m an American who was raised to be very proud of his Irish background, great grandmother came over. I devour irish history and have begun some light irish launguage learning.

I run a private club in south carolina and have avoided throwing a St. Paddy’s party for our members because i have always feared it would turn cartoonish and lame, ie american. My hand is being forced this March17th. i want to represent the country and culture correctly, not an American travesty covered in leprechauns. I spent 3 months in west clare years ago, so im trying to remember what i ate on a regular basis.

My menu so far is coddle, boxtys, something with smoked salmon, brown bread, soda bread, corned beef and cabbage(an American concession), some sort of salad.

Are there any food or beverage staples for the day that I should include to keep it as authentic as possible!

Go raibh maith agat
