What's been on your headphones this week? Wrecking the neighbour's head with something new old or anything inbetween?

I've always been desperate at finding new music, I usually have the same handful of playlists on repeat. Help me and the others like me expand their library and fix our musical mundanity!

I was treated this morning over breakfast to someone revving their motorcycle engine and thought it must be great to be so easily entertained.

Awesome Irish horror movie perfect for Halloween: Oddity

I stumbled across this movie and remembered hearing good things. I won't go into any details. Just to say it's fun, eerie, and unlike so many horror films, gets even better as it goes along. It's on Shudder.

EDIT: another good one is The Hole in the Ground

🌟 Paul Brennan: Casanova of Carrigstown 🌟

Alright, folks, it's time we address the enigma that is Paul Brennan, Fair City’s own one-man romance factory. Yes, Paul Brennan—the man, the myth, the charmer who has somehow turned Carrigstown into his very own love laboratory. Against all logic, this man has swept through more hearts than you’d think humanly possible. If there’s a woman in Carrigstown, there’s a 95% chance she’s either dated Paul, thought about dating Paul, or will end up with him eventually. It’s practically a rite of passage. 🤷‍♀️

Now, to the untrained eye, you might wonder: What’s the appeal? It’s not the wardrobe—that much we can rule out. Paul’s not exactly strutting around in designer suits; he’s more "business casual meets local mechanic with a splash of questionable charisma." And it’s not the sparkling conversation. Let’s be honest—Paul’s pickup lines probably haven’t evolved much since the '90s, and yet they work like a charm (apparently). 🕶️💼

Could it be the way he looks at you with that intense stare that says, “I have four business ventures to run, two feuds to handle, and three ex-wives to pacify, but hey, I’ve got time for you”? There’s something about his relentless I’ve-seen-it-all attitude that somehow, against all reason, leaves women weak at the knees. 😅

Or maybe it’s his “bad boy with a heart” vibe. You know, the kind of guy who breaks your heart, then somehow ends up back in your life just when you thought you’d gotten over him. That’s Paul—reliable as a boomerang, and just as hard to avoid.

Let’s not forget his endless romantic wisdom, either. With all his exes and almost-exes, the man has PhDs in heartbreak, drama, and the miraculous ability to stay just charming enough to never lose his next chance. Paul’s charisma defies scientific explanation. He’s like a fine wine—only instead of getting better with age, he just seems to get… more prolific? 🥂

So here’s the question: What is it about Paul that keeps the ladies coming back for more? Is it the allure of a man who’s practically Carrigstown royalty? Is it the thrill of joining his lineup of legendary love interests? Or are we witnessing some kind of spell at work here?

Come on, Fair City fans, help me out: What is the appeal? Because, honestly, I’m baffled—and I’d really like to understand it. 😆

Car mechanic

Went to a car mechanic to fix/ change the side rear view mirror for my car, now the same side window doesn't work.

Do I have a venue to ask the mechanic to fix it as it was working before he fixed that mirror ?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree ???

What have people's experiences been with Trinity?

Big or small, positive or negative, observer or student.

I studied in Dublin for a very short time in 2023, and I really enjoyed my time there (I'm from California). I'm currently looking at some grad schools, and I like the look of Trinity's psychology department.

I didn't have a very detailed picture of campus life, we just had our own class hosted in one of Trinity's rooms for 2-3 times a week for 4 weeks then we got sent right back home (during a heatwave no less).

What's your experience? Do they do good community engagement? Any great instructors? A totally bland time? No wrong answers :)

I appreciate any input, thank you.

Insurance Question

Just bought An Post car insurance a few hours ago after checking a load of sites and brokers, of course after I say this to a friend he asks if I checked Revolut first. It's 300 quid cheaper. I've already paid for An Post, but can I cancel. I looked it up, and it says I've to post the disc back, but I Haven't even got one yet, It's only been a few hours. What would be my best course of action do you think?

What is the longest you've gone without a job?

6 months unemployed today. I've worked since I was 16. The job market is so tough out there. I sort of feel like I have adopted the long term unemployed mindset now. I don't feel useful or productive and I feel I've lost all agency in my life. I've been rejected from several key companies in my area already so I've run out of options for where to apply for. I'm really hoping something comes out of the woodwork soon.

Open thread of an evening

We are going to experiment with having an open thread every evening at about 19:00 for general chit chat and whatever you want to write about within the rules.

Had a good day? Had a shite day? A wonderful idea strike you while you queued for the bus on the way home? Tell this tiny part of the world about it. It's like screaming into the void only calmer and more casual.

Any dentists on this sub?

Trying to get a filling done. I've been to the dentist twice but the numbing injections won't work for me. My dentist (on medical card) doesn't offer sedation. So I'm stuck not being able to get my tooth done and in pain with it.

Is there anything I can ask the dr for? Sedative? Nerve blocker?

Or am I best to try and get referred to the dental hospital?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Anyone know anything about HrDuo?

I applied for a betting assistant job on HrDuo and got offered an interview via text. I was told I’d get an email yesterday to say if I’d been accepted or rejected. I haven’t gotten one yet and I’m trying to find a way to login to check my application status but I can’t. I also never got a confirmation of application email or anything. I’m half afraid I put in the wrong email. Has anyone had to use this website before and can you help? Thanks!

Rant: Personal Trainers and Pricing

Just need to vent.

Really want to get in shape. I go to the gym 4/5 days a week, but with no idea what I'm doing and no concept of nutrition, it's not sing anything for body composition.

I had priced an online personal trainer a few years ago. He had really good results online, seemed genuine, was pleasing to look at, and had a beautiful Donegal accent. 378 euro for 3 months, which at the time I couldn't afford.

Roll around this morning. He advertises "buy 3 months, get 3 months free'. I thought "amazing, this is my chance". Messaged him straight away, and he tells me that the new 3 month price is 628 euro, but if I got it today or would cover 6 months instead.

Now, I know cost of living and all that, but.... come on.

2 years ago it was 126 per month. Currently, it's apparently 208 per month. On this "special offer" it's "only" 104 per month.

This is why they don't advertise their pricing anywhere. It's not transparent. They can do whatever the fuck they want with no regulation or oversight.

If anyone can recommend a good book instead, let me know.

Euro millions ticket

Never entered before. When asking for a ticket, do I ask for a euro millions plus ticket and do I have to ask for two star/bonus numbers, or do they automatically put that on there for me?

Any suggestions for how to boost my bandwidth when I'm using mobile tethering?

I moved from Eir to Three mobile (they don't cap you after you go past any number of Gbs) pay as you go, and use the unlimited data for my in-home wifi, as I'm living on the bread line. It saves me €40/month, which is huge.

However, my tiny part of the town in which I live has terrible reception from both towers.

I live in a ground floor apartment of two-floor properties. I have decent reception on the main street, roughly 70m away.

I have a 4g phone.

Thanks for any help!

Why does Hop House not export like it used to?

I live in Korea and it really took off here. It was selling out in Costco like crazy for a long time. It was always selling out in convenience stores as well. My friend who owned a bar had 5 beers on tap, one was Guinness and one was hop house. There was a korean beer and some French beers on tap too. When I looked into it I learned it wasn't Korea stopped importing it but Ireland stopped exporting it here and then I learned they did the same in France and the UK.
I would love if someone had any info as to why?
