I’m a 25F ex-Muslim. I came to Ireland in 2022 to escape my very restrictive and conservative family. I finished my studies in 2023 and have been working as manager in a retail store. Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to secure a critical skills or visa sponsoring job.
I only have 8 months left on my visa, and going back to my family is not an option due to personal reasons. On top of that, I have a significant education loan that I need to repay, which is adding to the pressure.
I’ve been actively applying for jobs, networking on LinkedIn, and contacting recruiters, but I haven’t had any luck yet. If anyone here has been in a similar situation or has advice on how to improve my situation, I’d be incredibly grateful.
Thank you so much for reading. I really appreciate any help or guidance you can offer.
I’m bridesmaid for my best friend next year and I would love to get her a holy moley mug (one of those they used to give to competition winners on the full Irish radio show in the early 2000s) as a wedding present. She won one as a teenager and it arrived broken, she was devastated at the time and it’s a bit of a running joke between us. She had a rough time as a teenager and is not at all close to her family now (they are not nice). It might sound silly but I think it would mean a lot to her that I care and listen, she didn’t have that at all as a teenager. I have googled on the off chance that there might be one on sale on eBay but no joy. I couldn’t even find a picture of the mug that would allow me to get a replica made. Would anyone per chance still have one that they could send me a pic of so I could get one made?
I am currently unemployed, I am looking for suggestions on how to make money because I am unable to get a full time job, what’s something that the general public might need that I can offer assistance with for money? Think about yourself, what would you be willing to pay for just because you don’t want to do it? If you need something done for you, I’d like to know.
Wondering what do people do/feel about them? Has the attitude changed in any way towards them. Mine is tonight and I can't be bothered and have not attended one in years.
We are going to experiment with having an open thread every evening at about 19:00 for general chit chat and whatever you want to write about within the rules.

So in the grand scheme of things this is trivial at best even so I would like a bit of help if possible. Myself and my partner have decided this year for presents to tell each other two things we wanted that we couldn't justify spending money on. My list tbh I kept fairly small pair of runners and a hoodie iv wanted for a while but never bothered getting out of laziness it's actually not that dear. My partner decided to surprise me by telling me she was getting me a ps5 (big into gaming time and cost rulled it out even now) I talked her down to a PS4 which we got today.
So heres my issue I think I should set it up now make sure it's working (it's second hand ) the kids are young enough they won't know the difference between the 3 and 4 and we can just wrap it up again Christmas eve. she's adamant I have to wait I'm not sure I can.
Can someone here help me with an ironclad argument as to why we should set it up now thanks
Happy weekend.
Update: I have decided to just go rouge and just play it when she goes to bed and during the week when she is at work and the boys school (I work nights) wish me luck
Trying to stave off extreme jet lag and getting angry, so I'm starting a thread to thank nice people you've met with little consequence.
SOME MAN was the man from Knocklyon I got chatting to on the flight from Dubai to Dublin this morning.
The coach driver to Limerick was also SOME MAN for helping other people find their coaches and checking that every passenger on our bus liked the AC temperature and lack of radio.
There's not alot in the rewards system...a packet of rich tea...got 30% off hot chocolate on the scratch card.
I am renting a mini studio since June and the landlady is a lovely Irish woman that has always been really present in regards to having everything well set and she even gave me some new equipment when I moved because I didn’t have barely anything (like a new set of bed sheets and duvet, amongst others).
So, would it be ok to give her a present like an attention since she was always so nice and since we are around Christmas so maybe would be opportune?
What do you think? And would you have any recommendations as to what present could I bring? She’s around 80. Don’t know much about her preferences but maybe something like neutral or that people use to get in these scenarios? I am terrible with this stuff.
Thank you in advance! 🙌🏻
if you were a big beardy man whose hobbys include dnd, warhammer, video games and spending hours in the toilet what would you want your mrs to get you for a present?
I'm watching a comfort film of The Gentlemen.
Love it, lots of laughs.
Fire is lit, dog is snoozing on my lap and having a little gin and tonic for the eve that's in it.
Looking for opinions on repairs, My own fault really so it is what it is. Brought it to the garage today it just didn't feel right, good honest local mechanic said it Needs a new clutch give or take 600 then said i needed the oil and filters changed so said arouns 650 all in, he said he could do It next week or if i wanted to wait till after xmas so i wouldnt be stuck cash wise. While driving it home this evening check engine light came on then the power dropped, wouldn't go past 20 till I drove for about 5 mins. I know myself it needs things like new bulbs and wipers and stuff and the heat is also gone in it. It needs to be NCT'd also. Tax has another month on it. But in my postion would you wait till after Christmas and replace it with a hopefully cheap run around or repair it?

Hi all
Does anyone have experience/advice related to a warranty claim with Decathlon.
Specifically, a treadmill. The warranty is for 2 years for parts and labour, but I am expected to either replace the damaged part myself (which I am not comfortable doing) or take the (very large) treadmill to their workshop in Dublin (from Limerick). If the labour is uncluded, surely they should either send a technician out or transport the item to the workshop themselves?
Thanks
Update: Thank you so much, I got a code that worked! Delighted to put an order for replacement shoes. Means a lot 💛
Hoping to buy a pair of shoes on Schuh and released my Uni account has expired and gradlife doesn't cover it. If anyone could help would be so much appreciated to save a bit of bob.

We can all be miserable together again in January! 🤗🤗🤗
Not to be confused with Freaky Friday 😬
That Friday feeling, what're the plans frisky people? Share with us, so we can judge from our couches!
I know it is not a question but I wanted to take the time and inform my fellow Irish people all all the other good people of this subreddit that Black Friday sale on Paramount Plus is live
currently it is 39.99 € for 1 year, making it only 3.33 € per month which is bargain for all the good shows on there.
Mainly Yellowstone, Tulsa King and Lioness for me and all the Star Trek show so for me this is worth it. I have been waiting whole year for this hehehehe.
Good luck and happy watching, and mods if you think this is against the rules then just delete it and sorry for breaking your rules.
Much love and happy Black Friday to everyone
Good evening all. Having another one of my shite talk moments (delete if not allowed) but have people had the experience of with a new manager that wants to run things completely differently and is micro managing me by checking in randomly every few hours to see what I’m doing? I find I’m way more emotional. Just spent the last how crying which is kinda pathetic. Anyone else have this experience? There’s been quite a bit of trauma with an ex partner of mine in the 2 ish years that I’m getting over but yeah just having a rough night and it’s just catching up with me. Take care everyone and thanks for reading in advance
Would love any help. We are 2 couples (mid-60s) and will coming to Ireland for about 8 days in early June 2025 (on the ground, not including travel day) - could be extended to 9. We are all 4 musicians and I love food and we all love exploring and cities. We are all well-traveled. We don't want to go on group tours and, for Ireland, don't want to drive for this trip.
We will fly in from NYC. The other couple comes from Germany. We think we want Dublin and Belfast as our 2 cities. Problematically, we really want to visit the Cliffs of Moher - but that is a logistical problem. Should we fly in and train up immediately to Belfast? (can we fly into Belfast??) and then train down to Dublin? I would love a day trip to a small village also.
Always happy to listen to suggestions.
many thanks.

I'm offering 5% stake in my business of selling salted, roasted pistachios without the shells, for a €1m investment.
You'd be nuts not to!
€4.25 for a small slice of Xmas cake in thunder’s bakery Dublin the mince pie was only a little smaller
I don't want to spoil it, but it's really cute!
Well lads, I'm renting at the moment and the wife is finally pregnant 🎉
Quick question, anyone any ideas what can be done to heat the house up, as in make it more energy efficient (solely from a heating point of view), without spending a bomb! House is a D2, willing to pay for and change rads and buy heavy curtains, but after that what else can I do? Also he's due late January, hence the question.
I'd also add my Landlord is really sound rent wise, I'm a fair bit under market so don't want to be a pest!
Any help would be A1 lads, thanks a mill.
