my hot take for today, rwby gets better when you realise that blake definitely did have a crush on sun in the early days but didn’t follow up on it because she realised post-fall that her feelings were stronger for yang and that sun just wasn’t the one.
it makes all the eclipse moments in early volumes not feel like they’re shitting on bumbleby (the eventual canon couple)
it highlights that yes, blake is indeed bi
it tells a very realistic story of how some crushes just aren’t meant to be
do i still think blake had a bit of a crush on yang at beacon? absolutely. do i still think yang fell first and was so head over heels for blake at beacon? absolutely! blake seriously has a type, and sun and yang are both that type.
the difference comes in how they treat her. sun may be fun and flirty, but he’s also senseless and pushes blake out of her comfort zones far too often without realizing why she doesn’t appreciate it. yang on the other hand is patient with her, invites her into her life to have fun without pushing her way in and trampling all over her boundaries.
and that’s what’s fun about sun and yang being so similar !! like, not only does blake have a type, but it shows the variance in that type and what she needs in a relationship. it’s a great narrative !!
and it works extra well when you consider that sun doesn’t get jealous and actively encourages blake to go on her own way (subtext: to get her girl), because then it makes him somewhat of a narrative foil to ilia, who was jealous of adam and let that jealousy fester, as opposed to sun, who let go of those conflicting feelings to let blake — who he undoubtedly loves — be herself and do what she wants. (it’s also why i really love the dynamic of sun and ilia, himbo and lesbian duo getting over the girl they loved)
long story short, eclipse isn’t bad but it also wasn’t meant to be and that’s okay. better, even, for the story they wanted to tell for blake.
I made a youtube video of my top 10 picks. What's your favourite from last year?
For those who don't know Rotoscope is the act of recording a live subject and tracing over them frame by frame to make movements of characters look more realistic. It's a very old style that was used in a lot of old cartoons and animated films.
Do you think other companies like Netflix or Paramount will take the missing cartoon network shows from Max?
I don't know why, I'm just curious, I guess it's just interesting how many G rated movies there are that would definitely be PG today. Here are the examples I can think of:
Kocoum in Pocahontas
Quasimodo's mother in The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Shan Yu in Mulan
Lionel in Quest for Camelot
For me it's always been Biker Mice From Mars.
As an example for me its the character yakumo from the show sinzoAnd even though she was the main hero (I don't get why she didn't do anything but preach and get kidnapped the 3 hero do the work) she was so incredibly stupid in her views
I couldn't stand her case in point these to villains of the week almost killed her and the other had a knife to her throat till one of the other heroes save them all but in the process killed the villain
Yakima then kicks him from the group cause now he bad cause he killed and even though the others told her he did it to save her she all nope begin
Till later when the dead guys brother come to get revenge and the kick hero come back to save them again and he apologizes and she forgive him
And as I watched i was like no she should be ask for his forgiveness you sorry brat yes killing is bad but to save yourself and others is another thing and to shun the person who save you from a killer who's killed other no
“Why is Yang lying about raven??? That’s so out of character she’s so against lying ” is a BROKE take
she’s NOT lying about raven as a betrayal to her group no one there really cares about raven!!! Except obviously qrow but not for maiden reasons so whatever
She’s lying as PART OF HER DEAL WITH RAVEN!!! The deal was that raven didn’t want the danger that came with having the relic or with being the maiden so Yang convinced her that she could have that target on her back instead this is a pivotal moment for them cause it shows raven would rather let Yang be in danger then her and Yang accepting this and using it
She traded safety for the relic
And she stuck to that deal
And Yang lying about about the maiden thing (really just not actively bringing it up she only really lied the one time) shows that she still cares about raven and is in character because her problem isn’t lying in general it’s the betrayal of it
Like she’s not going around leading them on failed pretenses that someone else is the maiden or anything
Ozpin had been leading them to do something that he was told by like the GOD OF WISDOM was not possible and NEVER TOLD THEM
Their friend DIED for this cause
SUMMER died for this cause
That SOOO messed up
Also snitches get stitches
Also, it wouldn't be hard for them to figure out who the Spring Maiden is. Only Raven, Cinder, and Vernal went down to the vault, with Yang arriving later. Vernal is dead, which means she's not the Maiden anymore (she never was, but the characters don't know that). Cinder fucked off without the relic which means she probably didn't get the powers either. Yang isn't the Maiden, so that only leaves Raven.
Yang lying about what happened in the vault is used to demonize her a lot, but it misses the point of why she was so pissed off at Ozpin. She lied about Raven because a. It was something they could figure out and b. It wasn't something that mattered anymore. They only need the Maiden for opening the vault to get to the relic inside. Yang telling everyone who the Spring Maiden is wouldn't have changed anything as far as the main plot goes, and Raven had made it clear she wasn't willing to cooperate with them at that time.
Lying isn't what Yang was so against. Yang going off on Ozpin was about him using false pretenses, intentionally misleading them, and omiting crucial, right-to-know information. They were in too deep to just back out once they learned the truth - one Ozpin was going out of his way to hide. He signed them up for a war he didn't even know if they could win and I think Yang has a right to be angry about that.
Honestly, the only reason she even lied is because she had just gotten solid proof that Raven would rather put a target on Yangs back than stand with her family. She was in no emotional state to process that a second time after already having broken down over it briefly in the Vault. And after that, it's a non-issue. If they figure it out or not, Raven is trying to sit out the war. She's not relevant. Frankly, if the maiden powers did become relevant, I suspect Yang would speak up immediately.
What wasn't a non-issue was the fact the relics draw in Grimm, and that's important information anyone transporting it needs to know. And that secret Oz held onto until he had literally no choice, which left the team in the middle of the wilderness with a Grimm beacon and irritated at him, which was when Oscar discovered that the relic had questions left. He had kept important secrets from the team, and actively lied to them about relevant details, implying a serious lack of trust. That is entirely different from Yangs situation.
there is still zero evidence that Yang didnt tell her team about raven being the spring maiden. that theory was made up the hatedom in vol 6 so they would have an excuse to hate on yang for being mean to qrow and ozpin.
Fact-checking drones will pick 3, but those with varied taste will click one of the other two.
