A place to discuss all forms of cartomancy, including playing cards, Lenormand, lotería, tarot, etc.
Welcome to r/Cartomancy! Please keep all discussion cartomancy-related. Show us your new decks, ask for help with interpretation, experiment with new methods, and learn together with the community!
r/tarot and r/tarots are overrun with self promotion and people looking for free readings. The goal of this sub is to promote discussion. "How can I use card reading to evaluate or help my love life?" is a good question. "Confused about my love life, need reading please" Is a personal request and not of interest to the community at large.

In the picture, this is how playing cards are used in the Appalachian tradition based on Jake Richards' method. While using this method, something unusual happened.
I was doing a reading for a friend following this method. I carefully followed the instructions correctly. However, there were no pairs of cards in the reading. What does it mean when there are no pairs of cards using this Appalachian method?
Feel free to discuss or share your insights about this. I'll totally appreciate it, guys!
I am simply curious. I like how it really feels like its own thing, even separate from r/tarotdemarseille. I also like how “folky” it feels.
It’s also so accessible: bicycle cards are only a few bucks, which is about a quarter of the price of the cheapest tarot decks.
Hi there~ I am trying to hunt down any examples of cartomantic divination happening on the old southwestern frontier generally, and New Mexico's history specifically. Very niche, I know, but any possible leads would be very much appreciated!
For context, I recently found out my long distance situationship got into an exclusive relationship. We're in good terms and mutually decided we still want to connect with each other and this experience has been very meaningful for the both of us.
But now I've been hesitant to contact them given the circumstances, even though they assured me I could. I don't know if I should keep my distance of if they'd want me close.
For this spread I asked for advice on how should I communicate with this person in this situation. I was trying to follow the hedgewytch system, but I'm not sure how to seek advice in this trio. I'm struggling to relate these cards to each other and translate their meaning into advice basically.
Is there any one system, maybe two, that seems to be the most popular for meanings?
I hope this is allowed. I need to raise approximately 700$ for an important operation before Christmas for a very close person who is currently jobless. I would be grateful if you are willing to help and in return I will do a reading for you for a minimum donation of 5$ per inquiry/theme via email (if you want to donate more I would be eternally grateful). Contact me in pm for email and questions. Thank you in advance. I use mostly playing cards, but also Lenormand and Tarot de Marseille depending on the inquiry. Disclaimer: All readings cannot and must not substitute for professional services such as medical, legal, or financial advice. Thank you all in advance.
The querent is me, and my question was, "What kind of relationship will I have in the future?"
My interpretation is that the things I should expect in my future relationship include a [AD] new home where I might live. It is possible that I could become a [3H] third wheel in someone’s love life, but as I experience love, [AC] I will learn more about it and have the opportunity to explore it further
PS: I accept your interpretation based on the cards I picked. Feel free to share any further insights or advice.
Querent's Question: What kind of relationship will I get? Spread: Nine-Card Spread
My interpretation:
Top Row Cards: I am dealing with conflict or changes in relationships. I see myself having problems or arguments with my family which will lead to hurting myself or keep sabotaging myself. This has happened in the past where i keep talking about all of my problems and the problems that have happened in my household that affect my emotions. At first, I was enjoying my life and wanted to pursue my dreams but as I see more problems as I keep growing up, it makes my life boring and dull. Hence, it explains the changing of my emotions or family matters.
Middle Row Cards: What I know is that, I am easily manipulated by someone and I am immature in handling all of problems. But I didn't know is that my situation is influence by someone who is wise authoritative figure in my life. But as I faced all of my problems, I kept moving forward after what happened.
Bottom Row Cards: However, as I face the situation, I am still kind to some people and having harmony or reconciliation to everyone. I am also hoping that I will meet someone who is a practical and resourceful. But the outcome reflects my situation which is I will meet someone who misuse his power or leadership.
I am still a beginner at Cartomancy Tarot Reading. So I really appreciate your advice and your own interpretation of my reading.💖
Querent's Question: What financial problems will I face in the near future?
Spread: Nine-Card Spread
Top-Left Card (Present): 6 of ♠, which means moving forward after challenges.
Top-Center Card (Past): reverse 10 of ♥, which means family or relationship struggles.
Top-Right Card (Future): reverse 5 of ♣, which means overwhelming competition or conflict.
Middle-Left Card (What Querent Knows): reverse 5 of ♠, which means lingering conflicts or grudges.
Middle-Center Card (Hidden Influences): 5 of ♦, which means financial challenges or losses.
Middle-Right Card (Querent's Action): King of ♦, which means a successful and authoritative figure in business.
Bottom-Left Card (Outside Influences): Ace of ♥, new beginnings in love or emotions.
Bottom-Center Card (Hopes and Fears): reverse Jack of ♥, immaturity in love or emotional maturity.
Bottom-Right Card (Outcome): 10 of ♠, endings or transformations.
I need your interpretation in these cards. I am the querent and my question is "How can I improve in Cartomancy Tarot Reading?".
Idk how you interpret the cards but you can can also include the reverse cards.
I would really appreciate your readings everyone since I want to learn more about Cartomancy.
I decided to try cartomancy for the second time and I’m a little scared I asked a lighthearted question about the future and this is what I got I just think there’s something more because I’m very spiritually connected and I stg I think it’s because my true intention was somewhere other than the question these are my first 3
I’m pretty much a beginner and I’ve heard different things about the meanings of the color of the cards and how they affect the reading. Some things I’ve heard: If there’s more red than black, the reading should be done in a more positive way and if there’s more black than red, it’s more negative; The cards in the color that appears most should have more emphasis than others; A pair of cards of the same color are what influences/determines the other card in a 3 card spread. These are just some things I’ve heard but I’d like to know if there are more ways I can analyze the colors of the cards and use them to help me with my readings. And if there’s more they can represent besides the “red=yes” and “black=no”
I'm still quite new to cartomancy and would appreciate some help with interpreting this spread.. My question was about a man who has recently contacted me again out of the blue and what their intention/purpose is or where this situation is headed.
The spread in order: A♦️. K♦️. 10♦️. 3 ♥️. K♥️.
In previous spreads that I did months ago, when I asked questions about this person, the 10 of diamonds and 3 of hearts appeared as well.
I was looking for help with interpreting this pull. For reference, I used the Hedgewytch system for this pull.
My question was what would happen to my marriage once I have certain things removed off of my marriage. Long story short, baneful spell work was done on the marriage.
These are the cards I pulled.
Based on what I’m reading, I don’t see this marriage getting any better. My interpretation is that the finances may get better but there may be issues with the health of the marriage.
But I’m confused by the jack at the end because of the meaning of the jack card. Overall, I don’t see this being a good pull.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I’ve been enjoying reading Marseille with the Open Reading technique, as well as Enrique Enriquez’s style, and have been learning the Hedgewytch system to both read playing cards and apply to the Marseille. I’m curious, however, if anyone uses Open Reading and/or Enrique’s technique of turning a deck of cards into a thermometer to read playing cards, and how they do so?
Edit: to clarify, I’m confused by the trend of reading playing cards as tarot minor arcana cards instead of learning a playing card interpretation system. Is this just a function of people not knowing that divination with playing cards is a thing and has been for longer than tarot has existed?
Would someone please explain this trend to me? I don’t get it. If you want to read RWS/Thoth/another tarot deck, learn the system and read the deck based on that system, or read it visually/intuitively/psychically. If you want to read Marseilles, learn the Trumps and use the first ten to interpret the pips, or learn a playing card system like Hedgewytch. If you want to read playing cards, learn any of the dozens of systems that exist. You can read a tarot pip deck like playing cards because decks like the Marseille and 1JJ Swiss are literally playing cards. You’ll get much better readings with a standard deck of playing cards if you don’t use a system that assumes that there’s an entire fifth suit in the deck that’s not there #rant
Hi, I'm new, I want to know if I need special God-given abilities when doing readings? Personally, I don't think it's necessary, we just need to study and practice to develop intuition and experience, right? And all types of cards like tarot, playing cards, etc are like that, right? Hope you guys can answer my question sincerely❤️❤️❤️
Hii, my name is Andreas, im 24 yo and im a poker dealer at my city, ive been intrigued by esoteric knowledge and mysticism for the last couple of years, and as i develop my career as a dealer combined with the little ive learned about cartomancy and numerology i cant help but notice some patterns on the cards i give on the game.
the picture above shows a flop that always caught my attention, they all have something in common, they appeared on a saturday with pretty much a month of difference and i was on shrooms. kind of irresponsible to go on shrooms to the job i know but its not a huge dose and i know how to handle it.
the point is, besides the constant daily pratice of meditation, shrooms is the substance i use to "enhance" my mystic abilities, where i get in a state where i can feel this kind of metaphysic energy.
players dont even notice this patterns, they think is all mathematical and coincidencial but i refuse to believe this, cause its been pretty clear to me, the 999s above are only the ones i managed to take a picture of, but everyday i am constantly telling some sort of history with the cards, i can already tell before hand what player is going to lose and what player is going to win, i can sometimes read with gut what players are thinking and this skill is just getting better and better.
now i am posting because so far ive been on my own on this journey, i belive what ive found is valuable insight but still need work to do upon, but i hope someone at least can see and maybe guide me on what could go next from now on, or is this it?
sorry if my english is weird,
Hello! I've asked my tarot deck about a situation with a friend of mine. We're such good friends in a group of 4 people including me, the group became a group beacause of me, I'm the link between the other people and this friend and he's a little bit closer to me than to the other two friends of us, but this isn't a problem to any of us and not so relevant. We all (the four) have created a closer bond in the last years, we hang out every time we can and talk all day about lots of things.
This friend, the one that is closer to me (I will call him "J"), is getting married soon, like two weeks from now, and is not inviting any of us three to his mini wedding. We know he's on a 2~3 month time of a little money lack because he's entering a new job with a huge salary and will move away soon because of this job, so all these things need money and we understand very well why he and his wife are not making a big wedding party now, but they are inviting other friends of him (which he always said that are not so close as we are to him (also, he said to me a lot of times I am the closest friend of him, like a best friend)) and maybe other friends of his wife.
I don't think his wife ever liked any of his friends (our group included, even considering we try a lot to make her comfortable with us and that he always says how grateful he is for our friendship), but we thoughy their marriage is such an important moment for him and he would want us to be with him in that moment.
I asked the cards if this situation of not inviting us to their wedding was afflicting J. I thought of this question because it seemed to me that he didn't invite us only because of his wife and this was putting him in a stressful situation with her, but now I don't know what to think since the four of pentacles. It's like he really didn't want to invite us to save money (?) and it's totally okay with this, even thought he did invite other friends that aren't close to him like he says we are.
How do you guys read this card combination? What does it mean?
Forgive my ignorance. In tarot, there are countless guides, books, and the meanings are standardized enough where you can get readings from people and assume they know what they’re talking about because there’s something to cross-reference (at least, for RWS and Thoth). I can’t find an equivalent for cartomancy. Nobody has any consensus, which makes comparing reading interpretations difficult to get an actual answer on, as far as I can tell.
How is one supposed to approach cartomancy with standard playing cards in a way that is not doomed to be personalized just to the reader, then? Or is that the appeal? Am I totally off base?
Can someone help me interpret this please? I wanted to know what would become of a certain relationship. Thank you!
I was feeling a bit heartbroken about a person I used to know and was wondering if everything that I was and have been experiencing was just the consequences of my own actions/karma. I'd be inclined to say yes, but was curious about what others think based on these cards.
(I do reserse meaning sometimes, and felt oddly inclined put 3♠️ sideways when my eyes were closed, take that as you will :,D)
