Dough bait

Hello, for those who make their own dough baits, may I ask for the recipe?
I normally use canned corn but i want to experiment different baits.

I just lost a massive carp

I was fishing a creek earlier and saw an absolute giant of a carp, he looked like he was so big, when I hooked into him, he pulled my line so far my freshly lined reel, almost lost all its line. He was most likely 45 lbs, I brought him to the shore and it looked like he had a whole other carp in his stomach he was so big. I bent down to net him and he snapped my line. Does anyone know if he will stay in the area? Since I’ve noticed carp don’t usually move much? And do you think if I went for him tomorrow, I could still catch him? (He was by the shore the whole day I’ve been sight fishing him)

I'm working on a project based on unusual carp baits and could use your help (details in body)

This project will be most likely US based, but input is appreciated from everyone.

With 'IFITSWIMS' (webpage and podcast) I am putting together something I'm calling the "Bait Ladder Challenge". It will be an open invite to those that want to participate. It will be an ongoing challenge where participants start at the bottom of the latter with sweet corn (probably the bottom) and work their way up the ladder catching carp (and documenting the other catches for fun) on more and more ridiculous baits.

Details for anyone that is interested, (PM me) but in the meantime.... this is where I need your help:

What are some crazy baits you've used, or heard of using, or dared someone else use? To go further... what are some absolutely mad baits you can imagine?

Obviously grocery store habits are going to play a large part in this, but let's hear em!

An interesting observation

I have been carp fishing for only around 8 months now but I have noticed something interesting with the carp in my area. Where I fish there is 2 large impoundments one built to stop silver/big head carp and the other as a way of controlling the rivers water level for recreation. These impoundments are on two totally different rivers with totally different water clarity levels. There is no way for the fish from both rivers to interbreed and I have noticed a very interesting difference between carp that I have caught on both rivers. Carp from the clearer river tend to be much longer on average (25-36in) and are much leaner than fish I have caught at the other river only 2 miles downstream which only average (18 to 25in) but weigh much more than the clear river. I’m just wondering why this may be or if anyone else has noticed similar things.

How to catch a larger one?

I have a small pond near me. Idk if there are bigger one just using sweet corn I'm getting maybe 12in fish but think there might be bigger ones. It's roughly a 1/4 acre pond maybe 8ft at the deeper points. Lots of soft mud on the bottom but haven't been snagged on anything yet. I believe it was drained 5ish years ago what told they left some fish. Clearly they did since I've got carp and cat so far.

Trying to learn how to catch pond carp.

We have a bunch of pond carp in my area basically anywhere you go, ranging from 10-50 pounds I’m guesstimating. I believe they’re common or grass carp. And I would love to find out how to genuinely catch them because they tend to be very spookish.

Any advice or tips are both greatly appreciated!

Best blank for floater carp rod? (UK)

A little context: I fish a fairly small, reed lined lake with carp of 10-40lb, for suface fishing i have been using an 11ft Nash 'hooligun' 1-1/4lb for so long it's spigot has worn to the limit and the carp have put on 10lbs, so are getting a bit too powerful for it really... though I love the action and ring spacing. I'm long overdue a replacement and want something nice, I use it the most, looking at custom builds. Which is the very best fish playing blank about right now in about 2-2-1/2lbs ish, 11ft ish? Any recommendations appreciated.

Carp Lakes in Cumbria

I've just moved to Cumbria and was wondering if anyone knows of any decent carp fishing lakes?

Preferably, the bigger the fish the better, but honestly I'm not too fussed really. Willing to travel too. So, if it's just outside of Cumbria any advice will still be appreciated!

Why is it orange and white? I don’t believe it’s a koi fish, does it mean it’s like a mutation? Orrr

Rig advice

I have been losing a lot of carp on this rig. This a a diy method feeder rig with the screw acting on the method feeder. I have a 1/4oz weight and a size 8 hook. The carp i am fishing for are not big with at max 9lbs and average being 4lbs. I see the rod bend over but the fish is not getting hooked. I am also using a vertical rod holder which I am not sure if it is contributing to the lost fish. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Any rig advice? What to improve?

I would need advice as I am not used to this style of fishing. Im loving it so far, but havent cought any carp in a lake full of it (a fisherman close to me caught 21 in a matter of a few hours (!) with pellets. I dont even see any line movement, leaving a little bit of slack line. Planning on buying PVA bags though. Should I add a small split shot? Any other tips? Thanks in advance!

Questions for Bivvy and Landing net

Hey all,

After learning how to spod feed and landing my 1st 15+ kg fishes, I am planning to get a bivvy and a bigger Landing net.

I had fox warrior so far, 70cm diameter, but it turned out to be quite small net for such fishes.
I have no idea which one I would get so I am asking for your full advice here.

For the bivvy, I am planning to buy FOX EOS 2 Bivvy. I am interested in your review and opinion.

Thank you all!
