Bought this hoping it would work better than other models. It still doesn’t. I have the 2017 Prius that has the gigantic infotainment center without Apple play. Love the car, sad it doesn’t have Apple play.
The main issue is when getting on an onramp. It loses your location and gives you directions for surface streets for about 2 minutes to get back on track.
It happens elsewhere also. But it frequently has bad connection to where your vehicle is.
Things I’ve tried.
Anything I’ve missed I should try? I’ll be returning it and just forgetting Apple play if I can’t get it worked out.
It makes me wonder what’s so different between a system built in or aftermarket install vs the dash mounted unit. The unit I put in my Tacoma works great with zero problems.
Even since I got my iPhone 16 (regular), the phone app will freeze after a few minutes of a call using CarPlay. Only way to unfreeze is to unplug my phone. I can't even swipe up and close the phone app.
My car is a 2013 Hyundai Elantra with a Sony CarPlay deck I had installed a few years ago. No issues with my previous iPhone 14 Pro.
I filed a feedback a few weeks ago but it says "unable to diagnose with current information." 18.1 public beta.
Anyone else have this issue?
When I have my iPhone 14 connected to CarPlay, my radio volume itself will randomly go super low, then resume back to normal volume after 30ish seconds. It only does this while on CarPlay. I'm not getting any notifications when this happens. The navigation/ audio volume is also turned practically ALL the way up and can barely hear it. I've tried disconnecting and forgetting my phone, tried disabling apps from doing background refresh. I attached a video to show how low the volume will glitch to, only to return to normal volume.
Am I going to have to take this to a dealer, or can I somehow fix this from home?
I’m having a frustrating issue with wireless CarPlay. Whenever I’m listening to music and a call comes in (whether I make or answer it), the music playback starts stuttering or playing in a choppy way after the call ends. The only way I can get the music to play smoothly again is to either restart the entire system or reconnect CarPlay.
My device is running iOS 18. Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone know of a solution or reason for this issue? Please help me out. Thank you .
So when I connect to my car using the lightning port (IPhone 14 pro max) it 9 out of 10 times sound like an am radio with a lot of white noise when using Spotify or Apple Music, hailing the assistant or calling someone always sound crisp and sometimes fixes the problem. Reinserting never fixes the problem, always have to hail Siri to have a chance of fixing it. Anyone know how to fix it? Been a problem for as long as I have had the phone
I recently got some basic LED lights for my car and was wondering if there’s someway I can connect them so that they match the color of the album art that’s playing through Apple Music/CarPlay. The lights I have are very basic, I don’t expect them to work with anything, even if I have to buy different lights that would be fine, I just want to see if it’s possible to do through certain lights or if I would need other things to get it to work.
Any recommendations for a wireless car-play adapter that can support two phones? My wife and I go between one car. Thanks!
Hey Reddit
Since getting my 16PM my car play has been super buggy - drops connection like crazy, audio skips while playing (plays for 10sec then drops for 2sec then plays again)
This is all only since I got my 16PM, was fine on my 14PM
I have tried wired and wireless and the results are the same
Could this be a phone issue? Or iOS issue?
Anyone else seeing this happen?
Thanks
Hello, guys.
I've been having an issue with Waze not performing well with the aftermarket head units that I use for quite some time now and I wanted to check with some more experienced users that I could probably find here.
The issues at hand are multiple, but they have the same genesis and roughly they are:
The Waze identificator (the pointer) starts fluttering in neighbouring streets while I am travelling (while my iOS 18 phone is locked, but fully connected to it)
Under the same conditions, the Waze app also does not refresh the events/issues on the road ahead, does not refresh police posts and traffic data. Sometimes it just freezes at one spot and then catches up by teleporting to the current location.
It "unclogs" once I either light up my home screen, unlock the phone or open the actual Waze app on my phone.
What has mitigated the issues a bit:
Updating the head unit's CarPlay software version with added newer Waze version.
Connecting the head unit to WiFi or (untested) possibly adding a SIM for it to have native connection.
By "mitigated a bit" I mean that the troublesome events from above have reduced slightly and the following/updates of Waze have become more accurate. It still does not work as my phone would on it's own, though. Now, of course, many would suggest that I should use a phone stand, which I have tried and does not suit me.
I am writing this to give out some clues that I've found during my experiences in order to advance other people's troubleshooting as well as to find further answers to my own problems.
I will be happy to form a discussion and possibly, a useful post for further users with such issues in order to finally resolve the outstanding questions and have us all enjoy our devices.
If anyone has suggestions or remedies, feel free to add.
Thank you!
I have a 2018 subaru impreza and got a 16 pro max yesterday. Everything on carplay worked normally when setting it up. Today when I tried to use carplay everything still works fine except all audio is playing through my phone. Any help on how to fix this would be appreciated!
I own 2 BMWs, one is a 2023 and the other a 2025. In the 2023, I have zero issues with Carplay at all, so I am assuming the issue is with the newer car, and not my phone.
Iphone 16 pro max, iOS 18.0.1, 2025 BMW X6.
When I navigate to the text messages application in carplay and hit a name, Siri pops up and says "what would you like to say to [Person]?" I talk to send the message and the Siri "jewel" animation just sits there. Nothing else happens. It doesn't read back the message, doesn't ask me if I want to send, it just does nothing. Eventually, it just goes away. All of this works fine in the 2023.
I have unpaired the phone and deleted it from the car and re-connected. Same Issue.
I've rebooted the head unit of the car. Same Issue.
This is super frustrating because I use this feature so much and will NOT text and drive. Any ideas how to fix?
I’m just wondering if anyone knows if i could get apple carplay in my car?
I use CarPlay and Waze when I drive, everything used to work fine until a few months ago when Waze started getting lost while I was driving, suddenly I was in the middle of the ocean or far away from where I was. I changed my iPhone one month ago but the issue is getting worse, it is completely random if it will work or not. In the last few days, when my iPhone is connected to CarPlay it even changes the time. The same thing happens with google maps. Both apps work fine when not using CarPlay.
Has anyone experienced this recently?
Somehow Siri voice and phone calls only come through one speaker in car recently. Music comes through all speakers. I tried another iPhone and it does the same thing it doesn’t matter whether I’m connected by USB or wireless connection to CarPlay. Any ideas appreciated.
So I have an old car but installed a android multimedia interface on it. Basically it's a tablet in my car. Is there any way I can download an apk to get it running CarPlay or android auto?
Ugh!! I am at my wit’s end. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and a 2021 Toyota Corolla, both on the most recent iOS (18.0.1). I can play music through my car speakers just fine via CarPlay (using a USB, I don’t have a Bluetooth option) but when I receive or make a phone call, it’s just silence! I have to put my phone on speaker to hear the caller and for the caller to hear me. I’ve searched in other threads and have checked the following setting and it’s correct:
settings/accessibility/touch/call audio routing/automatic
Still no luck!!! Any other suggestions!? I’m going insane!
I bought one of these dash mounted carplay units (as I really wanted nav on a bigger screen and a rear parking camera)
Two questions - one, the phone is on ios 17 - I have the option to upgrade to ios 18 - Should I ? - people seem to be having issues ?
Second question - I seem to suffer a lot of stutters when playing Spotify - will IOS18 improve that?
I have to use BT - there is no phone cable input to the unit.
I'm just trying to figure out options regarding adding CarPlay to the MIB1 head unit in my car. And understand limitations/ options regarding the following:
Option 1: keep MIB1 head unit, and add an interface such as this https://bavarian-automotive.co.uk/collections/volkswagen/products/volkswagen-wireless-apple-carplay-and-android-auto-mmi-retrofit-interface-vw however I've seen there are some limitations. If I had this, can I keep the audio playing seperate from CarPlay - I.e play radio through the head unit whilst using CarPlay for navigation? Or vice versa, can I come out of CarPlay to change driver profiles but it keeps streaming whatever is playing via CarPlay even if I have switched the display?
Option 2: upgrade to MIB2, however the cost of unlocked units seems prohibitive in the UK and hacking locked units seems quite complicated!
Option 3: RCD330 head unit, but I don't really want to lose DAB radio etc I currently have
Option 4: aftermarket head unit, but as far as I can tell this would lose the car menu that comes on the OEM stereo (where you can choose lighting, car safety settings, driving profile settings, TPMS etc)?
Are these essentially my options? Thanks very much!
I’m building a custom center console to accept a double din unit. Since it’s a convertible wonder when screen won’t be killed by the sun both in longevity and being able to see during the day. Any suggestions are welcomed and thank you for your help in advance.
[Help] Lexus UX 2019 CarPlay Issue - Mic Doesn’t Work During Calls
Hey everyone,
I have a 2019 Lexus UX and recently ran into a strange issue with CarPlay. When I connect my phone through a USB cable, CarPlay works perfectly for everything except phone calls. I can hear the other person loud and clear, but they can’t hear me at all. However, when I switch to using Bluetooth for calls, the problem goes away, and the mic works fine.
I don’t think it’s the mic since it works perfectly via Bluetooth. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Is it a CarPlay issue or something wrong with the mic when connected via USB? Any suggestions for fixing this would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
Sometimes when I’m driving I’d like to use voice commands to send myself a short message like a reminder. I know I can do it using text but I sometimes forget to go back and check those. I’d like to do it using email but when I use the “send an email to…” command I get a message saying an app is not installed. I use the default mail app on my phone with an @me.com email address. Is there no way to do this or am I just missing something?
Hello dear friends I have a Chinese car and I would like to install the carplay inside. If you have ideas for equipment or application allowing me to have and integrated the carplay in my car, I am interested. Thank you all .
Only seeing this for the first time today. It was appearing as normal, or the old way, then it went to this.
iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 18.0.1.
