Teenager has what the title says and I want to upgrade him to a good, working carplay radio. I searched the sub and really couldn't find anything specific. Can anyone help? I would prefer not to buy a cheap plug and play model he then has to connect his phone to (less distractions?). But any suggestions are welcome! Thank you
For reference: 2019 Volkswagen Jetta, CarPlay came with car
I’ve been having an issue with the audio on CarPlay. It registers the audio as a notification sound or navigation prompt and it comes out at a significantly reduced quality. I’d unplug and replug, it’d register again as music but the audio comes out of my phone instead of the car speakers. I’d end up having to reboot the entire infotainment system, either once or several times, or just give up and use the standard USB connection, which for some reason works flawlessly.
Any tips on how to make sure it consistently registers as music audio instead of navigation or coming out of my phone?
I had a CarLinkIt 2.0 (I think?) adapter for my 2017, and it worked well most of the time. It wasn't particularly fast starting up, and sometimes it would just...freak out and I'd have to unplug/plug it a bunch to get it to connect. It was good enough to buy again, but maybe there's something better now?
I'm struggling to understand the difference between any of these CarlinKit modules (though I guess the last two handle Android as well)...These are all from the same site!
U2W Mini (I guess it's smaller?)
U2W Mini2 (I guess it comes in colors??)
U2W plus (CarlinKit 3.0?)
CCPA (wtf?)
CP2A (CarlinKit 4.0?)
2air (CarlinKit 5.0?)
This timeline is somewhat helpful, I guess:
https://www.carlinkit.com/company_profile.html
There's also this Carlinkit 5.0 2air which appears to be a knockoff site, but it sure is hard to tell, given the quality of the official site...
And whatever CPlay2Air is...
If you want to actually buy one, it's a different site, and there appear to be different versions for different cars...
Oh nice another store...
Shout out to whatever Ottocast is...
Anyone have experiences with any of these? I can't figure out what's just rebranded or what might be the least buggy...I can't keep them straight.
I just want wireless CarPlay for my iPhone with the highest quality, consistency, reliability, and lowest latency
I have an automation that's supposed to open my garage door when I arrive at home, but it asks for confirmation before it runs. I've seen people here showing CarPlay screens with those notifications, but it doesn't show in mine, even though I have "Show In CarPlay" on for Home notifications. It shows on my phone only, which is sort of useless when I'm driving.
Is there something I need to/can do to get these to show on my infotainment so I can click to confirm and have that garage door open as I approach?
Apple CarPlay is working fine except it keeps disconnecting (says reading usb) whenever I try to make or receive a call. All other items work fine. I’ve tried new wires, cleaning ports, restarting phone/car. This just started about 2 days ago. It was working prior to this in new (just leased about 2 weeks ago) 2024 hyundai Elantra. Please help!
Thank you!
Hello,
I bought an aftermarket head unit and I’m starting to think I’m having a wiring issue with the head unit. Sometimes when I hit potholes the screens will sometimes turn off or the audio will be extremely static and have popping noises.
Could a solution be to get new wiring and have them more secured?
When I hard wire my phone to the aux port I also experience static noise, but never when I’m using the radio station.
Just got a 2016 a3 with CarPlay , not sure if it’s standard or aftermarket plug in but just wondering is there a way to get more than the standard apps on it and how to do it?
This Camry will be scrapped after I am done with it. (Close to 250k miles.) This is a commute vehicle that I would like to have a reasonable basic system in. I'm using a 5 channel amplifier, a set of Morel Tempo components in the frot and an undecided sub set up. I have always had my systems professionally installed and yet to have a DSP installed. With that being said, I've been pretty happy. I like my mid bass, my tweeters less than bright and my stage a bit higher (components help) and it to get loud at times. I have a friend that has installed many of his own smaller systems but has no DSP tuning experience. He's letting me tag along and learn on this install. Feeling like a DSP
I'm wondering what a good headunit option with great tuning abilities might be that are user friendly and have good value. I don't need power from this headunit, so I don't care much about the amplifier. I use the Android Auto, Spotify Google maps and that's mainly it for now. Possibly installing a backup camera. I'm willing to drop some coin in this particular item, because I will buy another Camry to put this headunit in after I run this one into the ground. Any suggestions? I know I could go balls out and spend $1500 but if there is an option that has these items AND value (lower price) that would be great. Thanks for your time.
I have a 2019 Chevy Tahoe. The infotainment center is messed up, which causes the CarPlay to be spotty. It will work for a few days then not work for a few days. The bluetooth only works when the CarPlay works. Same with when you plug it in via USB.
I researched the internet high and low. I haven't found a real solution so figured I would come here to see if anyone had some insight or could steer me in the right direction. I'm thinking of the following at this point:
Do you all think either of those ideas will work? Any/all feedback is appreciated.
Thinking of getting CarPlay for my forte. The best buy we site has a few required add-ons for installation. Will that enable the steering wheel buttons to work or do I need something else for that?
When we did our Toyota Camry we had to get something called the maestro but I don’t remember if it was for steering wheel controls or not.
Thanks for the help!
I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee with the larger u connect screen. I’m wondering if there is an update I could install to get Apple CarPlay rather than getting an entirely new head unit.
got this aftermarket naifay CarPlay system thing it worked like a charm for like 5 hours until I unplugged my phone and went inside my house then after 2 mins I came back out inside my car tried to connect the usb charging thing from the system to my phone and it wouldn’t connect I wouldn’t get CarPlay no more. I used a knockoff wire from 7/11 but it was working initially. I tried another off brand wire it didn’t work. I used my friends iPhone and it didn’t work. What else could I do?
I’ve tested a Belkin BoostCharge (from Walmart), Insignia, Best Buy Essential and even a Belkin straight from Apple’s website that is meant to be fully compatible with iPhone 15/15 Pro’s… CarPlay does work, I can listen to music/podcast but when I ask Siri to send a text/make a phone call that is when I notice the issue. The music that I was listening to before asking Siri something does not automatically start playing again (once I am done interacting with Siri). I have to manually go into my SOURCE option on the vehicles radio and select what I was listening to to get the music to start playing again. This only has been an issue since I upgraded to my iPhone 15 Pro. I was hoping that the iOS update to 17.1.1 would fix this but it has not. I know this is a minor issue but trust me when I tell you that it does get annoying after having to do this after every interaction with Siri. I’ve bought nothing but data sync USB A to USB C cables (not just charging only cables) so I’m pretty sure those aren’t the issue, even the one from the Apple Store website is doing this. Does anyone else have this same issue and has found a solution? ... I’ve tested this on a 2020 Toyota Camry and a 2020 Acura RDX and both are doing the same thing.
This is my very first iPhone (12 Mini) ever. With Android Auto, everything just worked as soon as my phone connected to the Bluetooth in my car. My wife has CarPlay in her car, on her phone (14 Pro) she has Siri disabled and her CarPlay works just fine. When I try to connect to it, it says that I have to have Siri enabled to use CarPlay. What could be causing this issue? I'd really rather not have to enable Siri just so I can use CarPlay. Is there a setting somewhere that I can turn off so that she isn't needed?

So my R34 has no radio and I want to get a car play unit that has wireless CarPlay and isn’t laggy. What would be the best size and unit to get. Any help would be appreciated.
My CarPlay that is connected through Bluetooth to my phone recently has started having problems and disconnecting from my phone. Any thoughts on what’s going on and how to resolve? I’ve tried forgetting and resetting device and updating software and still having issues.
I'm looking for a head unit with these specs
- volume knob
- CarPlay (wired is fine)
- Capacitive touchscreen, not resistive
- not those floating ones
- not too too big
I like the look of the Sony XAV-AX200 and XAV-AX1000 but I don't think they are capacitive and I can't find any for sale. Gonna install on my 2000 Honda prelude. Lmk if you guys have any recommendations.
I dream of a world where I can make my current 2017 Ford F150 (which has a wired Apple CarPlay setup) allow me to both charge my phone AND use CarPlay.
In my dream I plug a MagSafe charger into my USB port (which I normally plug my iphone into) and then I could put my iPhone on the MagSafe charger and it would allow me to use CarPlay.
Does that make sense??
Is it possible??
I got a new radio for my car that supports carplay. I have a Samsung so I have to use Android auto but I found out that the app is extremely buggy and limits me from even lowering the brightness of the screen and a bunch of other basic features that I would like to have. Is there any alternatives for Android??
