Saxon fields advice

Hi all

We're thinking of buying a house in the David Wilson Homes Saxon fields development. It's quite close to the old thanington estate and I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to what the area was like as we're not from around here!

TIA!

Tyler Kiln Pub in Canterbury Tyler Hill

UPDATE: A group of staff are now filing a group claim against the owner and taking him to court starting this Monday.

Tylers Kiln Pub in Tyler Hill

Canterbury Residents Post

None of the staff here get paid on time nor paid the correct amount. Most of us go weeks without any pay in which the management here ignore us. Certain individuals are owed over a £1000 for the past 3 weeks for 92 hours of unpaid work. Furthermore, management have recently threatened this individual by refusing to pay them for 8 months which is not just completely and utterly despicable, but illegal. I'd also like to highlight that all tips paid on card are not given to any staff here which is illegal under the Employment (allocation of tips) Act.

Simon Langton grammar school

Hi, good people of Canterbury. What is the perception of Simon Langton Grammar School locally? I am planning to visit the school in the open evening next week. I would love to hear from you all about the school.

Questions from an incoming exchange student!

Hello! I'm heading off to Uni of Kent for a semester exchange in a few months, and it would be appreciated if any of you could answer some questions I had:

  1. What's living expenses like? I know UK is generally more expensive in general, but I couldn't really find a proper gauge of prices for things like food, assuming I don't go to high end restaurants etc
  2. What's a good/reliable mobile network?
  3. What's a normal outfit for a female student during Jan-June (I have always lived in an all year summer place of average 30+ degrees) and what's an affordable store for winterwear? Since I intend to purchase most of my clothes here
  4. How safe is Canterbury in general? In my country I typically feel safe enough to walk alone in the middle of the night, and I can always leave my laptop in a cafe while I take a pee break, but I know that is definitely not the case here I assume.
  5. Any tips or recommendations in general on places to check out?

Thank you!

Parents moving to Canterbury, close to train track. Is it noisy there?

My parents are moving to Ersham Rd, in Canterbury, near the Canterbury East train line. As my dad is a light sleeper they are very anxious about how noisy it will be living there. If you have ever lived there, or near the train tracks on the Canterbury East line, could you tell me about your experience? Could you feel the vibrations from the train? What about noise? Thanks!

Christmas dinner recommendations

Hey all, my partner and I are coming on holiday for Christmas from New Zealand. I was looking for a place to have a proper Christmas lunch like a roast on the 25th. I’m having a hard time finding a decent place to book for the meal so any help is appreciated, walking distance is even better. We are staying in the centre of Canterbury near the Canterbury Roman museum :) Thanks in advance

Bellend Students: Who Got Unlucky This Year?

This year I've got unlucky and now have some dickhead students living next door to me, banging and talking loudly until 5am...ready for my alarm to go off at 6am.

NOTE: Not all students are bad. But my batch this year are.

So, if anyone wants to rant about their bellend student neighbours, feel free to post here.

What's your best recommendation to a visitor of Canterbury?

Hi all, I want to take my wife to Canterbury for the day in a few months. She went to uni in Canterbury and loves it there. We have visited a few times and had a town centre tour and visited her favourite tea rooms and restaurants. Now I want to book a weekend there for her birthday but I'm stumped on what to book as an experience. Do you have a favourite experience in or around the centre? Something a bit different perhaps. Looking to come around Christmas time. Thanks in advance!

Pub Quizzes this Week

Pretty much the title, looking for a pub quiz going on this friday or sunday, preferably friday. Can't find much info online, was wondering about kent campus quizzes too. Cheers

I know some pubs only do them monthly, like the maidens head, so i was wondering if they were up this week.

Driving from Canterbury to Lewisham as a commute

Just wondering whether anyone does this or a simular commute and how long it takes/how often it's delayed - google says 1.15 -2 hours but that seems unrealistic the amount of people trying to get into London for 9

The Polluted Statue of Girl in the Water

A few days ago she didn't look like that.

Maybe the rain has worked some strange magic. 🎩 ✨️ 🤔

Anyway, people can't help but stand still in awe of her.
