How would you breed given my equipment?

Here's what I have:

  • 2 2x4 tent setups in my basement
  • 1 small cloner
  • a few different landrace packs of 12 seeds

My overall goal is to learn cloning and breeding, and make some interesting crosses between these landraces. I sure wish I had more grow space but my state is a 12 plant legal limit in MA, anyway (not that I'm gonna have the grow police inspecting my basement or anything)

I've never grown for pollination before.

My initial thought is growing one strain at a time in both tents, and free pollinating to get a large supply of F1 seeds. Washing down the tents to kill any pollen and then switching strains for a few grows, until I have a stock of my source genetics. Then moving on to crossing (well pollen chucking at least, not sure I can select much with 12 plants - damn the ignorant state of our laws) Ideas for utilizing my F1 seeds at this point?

Any suggestions on how to hook this stuff up to get maximal genetic coverage from the seed stock I have? I thought maybe hooking the ventilation together and putting any males I find in the first tent, venting first into the second and putting a filter on the output of the second?

How long will I need to spend in veg before I'll get enough seeds to last me for the foreseeable future? Seeing as I wont be able to ever plant very many seeds at once regardless, I don't think I need to raise gigantic plants? How long do seeds usually take to mature on a pollinated calyx? Should I also try to get some product off the seeded plants to sample the strains at the same time?

Tips for killing any residual pollen so that I do not get contamination between strains in my cramped setup? I can't dump too much more $$$ into this at the moment, because of tight finances.

PS If anyone is interested in a local enthusiast club in Western MA, PM me! It would be good to meet other local peeps.

Reg X Fem outcome

Hi there,

I’m having a bit of a hard time finding answers to what I believe to be pretty basic breeding stuff so if someone’s willing to help, here I go :

Female from feminised X Pollen from reversed female = feminised seeds, right ?

Female from reg X Male from reg = regular seeds, that I have no doubt about

But now

Female from feminised X Male from reg = regular or feminised seeds ?

I have a couple « breeding » projects or more like pollen chucking for my own pleasure of crossing strains I like. And I would probably enjoy going through the whole « natural » process of breeding with regular seeds only but unfortunately, some of the strains I’d like to breed with are unavailable in regular form. After doing some research, it seems that it’s not inherently wrong to select a keeper from feminised seeds if the strains used in that cross are sexually stable. But from what I understand, it may be trickier to keep that plant for a very long time, am I right ?

Now, aside from potential sexual stability issues, would you guys consider that feminised seeds will always be inferior in some aspects due to the lack of male genes ? I’m thinking taste, potency, vigor…

Keep in mind that I’m not claiming anything, I’m a beginner but I’m showing a lot of interest. Sometimes things can be a bit difficult to understand especially when there’s a lot of nuance involved and different points of view.

Have a great day and thanks a lot 🙏

Purple Lemon Thai mom, Kali Mist x Garlic Pickle Dad

Chucked some pollen from my loudest male to my loudest female.

I’m just experimenting right now but I was able to get 30 seeds or so from brushing pollen on one branch.

Zoap reversal

I posted a little bit ago asking for help with this girl that wouldn't flip. She kept showing pistils so I sprayed more frequently to try to get it to stop 😆. Didnt work. As soon as I stopped spraying she became a he. And I mean fast. After about 36 hours I started seeing more gonad, less strife. About a week after I stopped spraying her balls are starting to swell and multiply.

Moral of the story: I think it needed a break from the spray. More was not better in this case.
