My fiance is Cameroonian and raised in Cameroun, and I am mixed Cameroonian and Scandinavian, raised in Scandinavia. We live in Scandinavia together.

A couple of days ago I called his mom because she had just gotten out of the hospital after i viral stomach flu and I wanted to hear how she was doing.

She told me to send her money because the dr. Told her to eat good food and she doesn’t have any money.

My fiance buys everything he needs to here and I don’t miss anything and we also save together. I don’t mind he sends her money and I expect him to. But I think it is weird she asks me.

I told him, he called her, she said it was a joke, he hung up, I told him I still felt a bit weird about it and hell broke loose.

He has ignored me for days, he keeps saying I don’t care about his mom, that I disrespect her, that my quality is lowered/that I am not how I used to be and now he also starts to talk about that I don’t cook enough (I have as much going on as he does, I am not a stay at home wife) and I have tried to be gentle and talk about how that make me feel and how we can make a plan for our responsibilities at home like we are a team but he hears nothing, leaves me while I am crying and believes his false narrative about me and he also says his mom is angry at me because I said she asked me. He then threatened to leave and said he wanted the engagement ring back, but he is still there.

I am like what the fuck. I thought we were doing good, just days before all this he was talking about how much he loves me and wants to do everything with me. He is normally vulnerable, sensitive and kind, we caan argue but I feel like normally he can listen, sometimes he needs small time to cool off but not days, also he doesn’t normally don’t care if I cry or I am hurt.

There is so many aspects I don’t get, the thing about his mom, money, house chores and how cold he has suddenly become. Is it just me who pushes men to become like that, do I pick wrong or is there cultural aspects I don’t understand?

I am dating a Cameroonian man and it is very likely I may marry him. I am Congolese canadian but culturally speaking very Canadian and he is from Cameroon. We are both 27. Recently I made a friendly call to his father and his father has been having eye pain and during the call he kept on going on on about how he does not have the means to have surgery. I was very uncomfortable with the call because my family is all here and my parents are financially stable, my parents have very rarely asked me for money. He kept saying you’re good over there but here I’m suffering. I can’t afford this surgery. Out of curiosity I asked him, how much is it and he said I’ll find out and tell you tomorrow. I feel awkward because I feel like he expects me to send money. I only asked cause he kept on bringing it up over and over again. I don’t want to find myself in scenario where his father feels comfortable doing this. It is my fault that I asked but I felt that he was guilt tripping me. I am not selfish but I worked very hard to set up a good life for myself and I don’t want to find myself in a scenario where his family, particularly his Dad is comfortable doing this, especially at this point because me and my bf are not even married yet. I also feel uncomfortable because his Dad was not a very present man, cheated on his mom and mis-managed his money when he made a lot of it. I have never stepped foot in Africa and I maybe I also don’t understand how hard life can be.

Update! Talked to boyfriend and he said he would talk to his father about this. Also has a really good conversation about establishing boundaries with money now and after when we get married. Thank you all for the advice 🙏🏾☺️

Nine months at the meeting him Online,I went to Cypress to visit him for three months within those three months I became pregnant with our son. When I was 15, and in my second year of high school there was a new french teacher at my school. I grew up in a very rural American town, so the new Cameroonian woman in the school stuck out to say the least. My father actually met her at new teacher training the summer before she started, so she knew my name already. A couple weeks later, after school has started, my mother coincidentally meets her at a local art show, and they bond because madame said to my mother, and I quote "you're not from here, you are nice and social, where do you come from?'. My mother is American but her parents are Italian immigrants.

Anyway about the 4th week of school, my french teacher hands me a giant family-sized casserole dish at the end of class and tells me to "take this to your mother" without any context. So, I haul this giant hot casserole dish on to my hour long bus ride home and we heat it up and eat it for dinner.

I still have dreams of whatever it was. From what I remember, it was some kind of thick beef gravy/stew that had a kind of red hue to it. She told us to eat it with a baguette so we did. My mother texted her and asked what on earth it was because it was so good, and all she said is "its a traditional Cameroonian dish. Beef with vegetables". I don't know if she was being purposefully vague or what, but it was not that simple.

Can somebody please help me out with ingredients and or a recipe? I want to recreate this six years later.

Hello, as an American Descendant of Slaves (ADOS) living in the United States and spending a lot of time around Cameroonians, I have noticed that Cameroonian parties and events tend to start very late and end early in the morning. This much different than how Americans party, which is typically 10 pm to 2 am... maybe up to 5 am if you just don't want to go home or decide to get food with friends. I've noticed Cameroonian events can start at 12, 1, or 2 am and go until 7 or 8 am. Can someone please articulate to me why Cameroonian events start and end so late? I want to understand this aspect of the culture. I have asked people in the community here before, but none seemed able to articulate why it is a cultural norm.
