Newly planted Pomegranate tree - fruit split open

Hello,

I am in SoCal and had a young Pomegranate tree planted last week. This morning I noticed 4 of the 10-12 total green unripe fruits were split open. Whoever, no fruit was actually removed from the insides, so it led me to believe it may have happened during transport or planting rather than from an animal getting into them.

Should I remove these 4 that are split open? I don't want to attract pests, but the fruit sees very hard to remove from the branch at this young age. If yes, is there a specific way to do this that won't prevent new fruit from growing at those branches?

Anyone know what this vine is? Recently moved to a new home and found this vine growing in a raised planter. Green leaves, don’t see any flowers, fruits, or veg.

Native plant books

Hi! Visitor from WI here. I'm looking for a gift for a new gardener in California and I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good books on native plants in California. I think they're in Southern California (Torrance), so if there's something even more specific to that area that'd be awesome.

I'm also open to any gift ideas that I may not think of being a gardener on the other side of the county.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Winter gardening in California...when you're not sure whether to cover plants for frost or water for dry spells and summer-like heat.

Not sure if this is ok, but I came home from a weekend away and these things are all over my cauliflower. Help, what are they and how can I get rid of them?!

It's been a treat to see my hard work paying off. Caught this Giant Swallowtail feeding on my lantana.

Recently removed the lawn, looking to fill in the empty spots with native plants and groundcover. What do you think? Any recommendations?

Anyone know of good YouTube channels of CA gardeners?

Hi All, I just discovered this sub - AWESOME IDEA!

I've recently re-entered the black hole YouTube and I'm looking for suggestions of gardening YouTube channels that are more specific to CA gardening. Ideally this would be a channel where the featured garden/farm is leaning toward homesteading where they're gardening year-round. I'm in Sacramento region, so if they're in the northern part of the state that would be even better!

So far one of my favorite channels is by a guy John with GrowingYourGreens. Another good one I've followed is DaveWilsonNursery who covers a lot of orchard info.
