The Campfireball ‘reverse-storytelling’ event is part game-show, part talk-show, part immersive theatre experiment created entirely, spontaneously, out of the stories and lives of the people in the audience. Hosted by Cory Howard (Moth Grand Slam winner, National Storytelling Festival performer) and featuring special guest performances from some of Charlottes best improvisors, comics and storytellers, The Campfireball builds itself on contributions from the audience creating a one-time-only experience where you’ll never know what’s going to happen next. There’s nothing to prepare and nothing to fear, all participation is completely voluntary, no one will be called out or called on, The Campfireball is just as much fun to watch as it is to play along. Come out to The Campfireball, you'll finally get an answer to the question, 'what if Mr. Rogers was the host of Double Dare??’ Featuring Cory Howard, Roxanne McDonald, Randall Moore, Mitchell Schultz, Adrian Parish and Sudden Depth.
Part of the Queen City Comedy Experience: Comedy shows and events happening in Uptown CLT Oct 24-Nov3!

Not sure if anyone comes on this sub but wanted to anonymously voice some frustrations.
I’ve been doing comedy for a little while here now and I’ve yet to get booked on any shows. I almost always get laughs and even when I don’t, the crowd always agrees with my point of view which i feel is more important as a female artist. It seems like comics here just book their friends or men. I feel I don’t get booked because I’m a women, not because of my style or ability.
Additionally, I don’t feel there are enough shows/rooms for just women. All of the male comics talk about is their dicks. One was talking about its shape for like 5 minutes one night, just disgusting and so HACK. I personally have never found a man funny and feel we should have our own space. I know most women must silently agree with me.
I hope to get booked more soon but understand it’s just patriarchal like everything else. Guess I can turn this into a bit soon too.
Hey hey!! Just popping in to see if this community is still alive? I moved here a couple years ago and have gotten really involved in the improv scene. So much so that I started a nonprofit (www.Houseofyes.lol) to help support the comedy community. Would love to get a pulse check to see if this is still a good place to share the happenings of CLT Comedy!

Why do you love or hate doing comedy in Charlotte?
I take an optimistic approach to Charlotte comedy because I gotta start somewhere. Why not in Charlotte.
Favorite Charlotte spot to perform?
My favorite mic was The Comedy Zone in Fort Mill that I had the chance of hosting before it closed, but now it's any mic where people will listen.

Why do you love or hate doing comedy in Charlotte?
My favorite part about Charlotte comedy is the really cool people in the scene and the chance to learn from them. There's not really anything I hate in the scene because I haven't been in it long enough.
Favorite Charlotte spot to perform?
My favorite places are split between The station on Mondays and neighborhood cafe on Wednesdays both are super fun and have awesome people running it.

Short Bio:
Normal Dennis is a person in Charlotte NC who likes to spend time on stage in front of groups of people in an attempt to entertain them. He performs comedy music and joke telling. He knows a few comedians in Charlotte.
Why do you love or hate doing comedy in Charlotte?
Charlotte is a city with people in it, a variety of people who want to go to shows and like to be entertained. I think Charlotte provides an audience of sufficient size and diversity to challenge any artist to produce work that appeals to the truth of multiple cultural, racial, and sexual attitudes. It’s growing size and relatively close proximity to multiple east coast cities makes it an ideal place to cultivate a robust and exportable culture of comedy and philosophy, music and art. Hopefully a bunch of trivial pursuits won’t cause trouble or lead to a bunch of clueless scrabblers operating the scene it wrong. The last thing we need is risk takers creating a sorry monopoly, because that could be checkmate for comedy, Checkers.
Favorite Charlotte spot to perform?
The Evening Muse. It’s so cool and well lit in there. Everyone looks better on that stage. Petra’s. Such a close room. You can see the whites of their eyes and gauge how well your material is doing. Snug Harbor, because it’s dark and loud and everyone is honest about what they like.

Charlotte comedian Jake Manning and I are building a show at the Evening Muse, “The All Organic Open Mic” that will be held next on Sept. 7’th at 10:00pm. There is an open mic sign up if you want to try out material, and a feature performer (Atlanta comic Ian Aber!) during the show will do twenty odd minutes of primo comedy. It’s hosted by Jake Manning. And for Halloween this year, I’m dressing up as a Vietnam vet.

Why do you love or hate doing comedy in Charlotte?
Charlotte is a positive place for comedy in my experience. Most venues and people are supportive.
Favorite Charlotte spot to perform?
My favorite spot right now is Smelly Cat Coffee Shop. I like it because it feels full even if there are only 8 people watching. But nothing beats a full room at the Comedy Zone.
