Hello Burlington friends,
Guys, please don't shout or curse at kids coming to your door for Halloween. Why does this even need to be said?
I've witnessed with my own eyes three separate incidents over the last few years of people being complete jerks with kids coming up to their door. Maybe some young boy is being saucy, saying something like "trick or treat-- or else!" Or some teen girls are enjoying a last childish hurrah--
That doesn't give you the right to terrify that boy or, in the case of tonight, shout "TEENAGE BRATS!" across the lawn at some older girls trying to go door to door.
The girls I saw were terrified and disturbed after the experience. Also one look at them and you could tell that, while they were more mature looking, they were 14 at most.
All in all folks, kids are going to be silly and saucy... But as adults, can't we give them the grace to test their boundaries without fear of being shouted down, intimidated or cursed at?
Just my two cents.
Edit: thanks to those who listened: I only brought this up so we can all be more aware that there are some people who have an ax to grind and don't mind getting in the faces of kids. It's not an epidemic by any means, but it does happen.
My sump pump isnt working and needs to be replaced. Plumber quoted me $700 to replace, is that a reasonable amount? Also, any excellent plumber recommendations?
Has anyone tried a naturopath for acne? I was told to go on accutane but am terrified of the side effects and I know acne has to do with whats going on in the inside. Any words of encouragement?
I'm near Guelph and Upper Middle and I keep hearing explosions. I'd say it was fireworks but, it's raining... Anyone know what that is?
It's early but wow is it ever quiet in Millcroft tonight.
Fewer than 10 kids at the door, and the streets look empty.
How's the trick-or-treat crowds in your neck of the woods?
I've been chasing a funky fishy smell in our dishwasher for the past year or so. Tried cleaning it, sanitizing, cleaning the sink drain pipe, checking the height of the drain hose from the washer, but nothing has worked.
I thought it was just us until I went to a function at Paletta and the caterer had the same smell in the water glasses. Is anyone else having trouble with an odour from the washer after using it?
Hi there, I have been researching companies near me for a few weeks now, trying to get a foot in somewhere that might take me in. I am looking to start a career in the electrical field. Now I'm sure a lot of people are in the same boat as me, as finding someone who will sponsor an apprentice is hard to find these days, but if anyone has any information on any companies in the area that are known for taking on apprentices and that I could reach out to if I haven't already. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Has anyone in Central Burlington used Rogers for their home internet? They're offering a pretty good rate and my Bell DSL service isn't anything to celebrate.
And I won't deal with Cogeco before they get suggested.
Need a medical examination to renew my AZ license, I am without a family doctor and wondering if any walk in clinics schedule this? Any info helps, thanks
Hey everyone I am seeking a coop in the accounting/tax/audit field for the upcoming Jan- April’25 coop term. Please let me know if anyone has any leads.
Recommendation for an Escape Room place with enough concurrent rooms to facilitate 30+ players - Maybe 4 rooms of 8 for example. Also, best atmosphere / themes for a corporate team building event?
Has anyone seen small pumpkins for sale anywhere around? Preferably south/west Burlington? Not mini pumpkins - needs to be carve-able. Fortinos on plains only has large pumpkins. Thank you!
Looking for some mobile pet grooming recommendations. Preferably one that uses a mobile grooming station, and that can accommodate a large dog.
Thanks in advance!
This might be a long shot BUT I lost super sentimental necklace charms from my necklace on Tuesday, Oct 29th in the Fortinos plaza (Guelph Line)
Charms are a B, rainbow, 3 birthstones :(
Thanks B friends!
Seen 3 passenger vehicles pulled over by MTO today on my commute, be diligent out there.
Hi, I'm new in Burlington, and I’m looking for someone who can join my band to play and write songs.
Style is something like post-hardcore, nu-metal, alt-rock, punk and dance-rock with keys and some electro elements. Already have over 30 demos and I’m going to release a single with the album soon. If you would like to hear it just message me.
I play guitar, bass, keys, drums and can sing, and I’m looking for anybody who can play any of these instruments or can also sing. I'm 19 and any age for a new member is fine. The main thing is that you like the songs and same vibe. Thank you.
Ps: sorry for the long text
I just drove by the Nautique Lakefront Residences on Lakeshore --- why does the "brick" facing look so awful? Cheap doesn't begin to describe it ... it looks like they Temu'd it.
I recently moved and set up my Sonos Beam. So far I have been unsuccessful in getting it going. I have followed the prompts on my phone app but it still won't connect. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get it working?
I took my 20 year old nephew to the Fortinos at Guelph Line and Upper Middle last Friday and had an experience that is now angering me.
I took my nephew to get groceries, he went and did his thing - bought some ready made pizza, and did his grocery shopping. I hung out in the food court area while he did his shopping, and had a snack. When he was leaving, his cart locked up and someone came out to ask for his receipt (in the doorway which was super awkward). He had clearly went through a checkout and had about $100 worth of groceries- he also l didn’t bag his groceries. (He’s young and didn’t want to pay for the bags)
I know stores can ask to see receipts, and you are under no obligation to show them or let them look in your belongings. They are not allowed to detain you either. At what point does locking up the cart (of your belongings that you paid for) become almost a detainment? He couldn’t really leave without leaving his stuff and until they went and checked with the cashier to ensure he did check out at the checkout he said he did. In my eyes this was just a witch hunt as they didn’t see him take anything obviously and couldn’t be bothered to look at security to see he paid.
Side note: he has some mental health issues - I didn’t want to escalate at the time for this reason at the time)
I carved two cute owls for my front porch on Sunday afternoon and covered them in hot sauce in the hopes that it would deter the squirrels from chewing on them. By Tuesday morning one of them is chewed up and theyve taken the lid up a tree. I'm about to go full Bill Murray Caddyshack mode but it can't be just me dealing with this, right?
There have been a few stories that popped onto our radar recently that made us think we ought to do a 905 Round-Up Episode to cover them all. In the course of our discussions about them though, we discovered a common thread. All of the problems we discuss are a result of the poor decision-making of the Ontario PC Government.
The Mississauga LRT project is under threat of not being completed due to questions of where funding to pay vendors and suppliers will come from. The funding has turned into a mess of who’s owed who and who is paying for it. Metrolinx is the Ontario government’s transit corporation in charge of this project so why isn’t the province stepping in to sort this out? Another project that the current government is leading to failure.
In Hamilton, The Spec reported how a new distribution model for home care supplies has left major gaps in the way they are distributed to patients. The result is that patients and home care providers are not operating with the tools they need. All due to the current government’s need to upend the old way of doing things, resulting in a mess.
Lastly, we look at the fact that Burlington is raising property taxes again. We face the reality that it’s due to the Ford government’s upending the municipal funding formula but not replacing it with a new model for 905 municipalities to operate with.
What is the common thread we mentioned at the beginning of this note? We describe it as malicious incompetence. Listen to the episode to understand what it means.

Hey all, I hope you’re all enjoying your day so far :)
I’m making this post because I’m not entirely sure what I’m looking for, and I find Reddit to usually be the best place to aggregate information. I’ve tried Facebook and IG and can’t seem to find what I’m searching for.
I have a 20F friend, living near Burlington, who through no fault of her own, is struggling with feelings of loneliness. Her current workplace is highly male dominated, and she hasn’t yet got into post secondary where I believe she’ll have a chance to meet people. She’s a good hearted person, who’s interested in art, reading (the spicy variety specifically), and cars, amongst other things.
She tells me she thinks a female friend would bring a lot to her life. I care about her quite a bit, so I was wondering if maybe I could find places/events/groups local to her that might put her in a position where she can share her interests with like minded women and maybe meet a friend.
If anyone knows of perhaps a book club, arts and crafts group, or something of the like (in the Halton region) which is specifically for women that they could provide information about, it would be greatly appreciated - any guidance would be appreciated really. Thank you for your time :)
I'm trying to properly dispose of a collection of these things for a friend, does one have to drive them all the way to the dump or are there other local places that can accept them? They are empties.
i want to go to a vintage photobooth like the ones they have at sonic boom and the drake hotel. do they have any in burlington?

If you’ve happened to have found food items or books on your doorstep, it’s probably because a certain porch pirate has stolen your package.
This serial porch pirate uses food or books as an excuse to get close to your home (in case questioned), but then swaps them for the package sitting at your front door.
If you’ve been affected by this please reach out to me by DM. Our community at Maple and Fairview is looking for this guy (specifically the license plate of his silver Ford Escape) to report to police.
Thanks in advance. I’ll post updates if anything comes of this
I realize that choosing a stylist can be a very personal choice.
I also realize that good aint always cheap and cheap aint always good.
My wife is looking for a qualified professional hair stylist who isn't charging stupid extreme rates. Possibly someone who used to work in a salon but has decided to reduce overhead and work out of their home and is only known through positive word of mouth reviews.
She doesn't even want to do highlights or anything fancy, just a simple cut. She's actually licensed so she usually does colour herself to save money. Thanks in advance.
