I recently moved into Durham, which I love so far! The problem is, there is a methadone clinic right by my house that is pretty active starting early in the morning. I am all for people getting the help they need and I don't judge...however, I quickly found that any package that is left on my front porch will last about 30 seconds before walking off. I tried adding delivery instructions for packages to be concealed, but the drivers apparently don't pay attention to suggestions.
So I was thinking: I have a dog and always clean up after her right after she does her business. Instead of stinking up my garbage can, could I get into any trouble for putting the shit into boxes and leaving them on my front porch? I could mix it up a bit...big boxes of shit, small boxes of shit, those white Amazon bags of shit...
I figured this might help me kill two birds with one stone: all the extra shit I have around gets taken away, and maybe eventually whatever intrepid porch pirate it is that takes my stuff will get tired of opening boxes of fresh shit. Of course, any boxes that are still there by trash day will go into the bin (unfortunately, I probably can't recycle them once they've been shitted), I don't really want my porch to start piling up with shit boxes.
Would this be viewed in the eyes of the law as "boobytrapping"?
The gas station elixir and gumbo combination is not pleasant. I won't be answering questions.
Is there an official DNC watch party happening Tuesday night?

Does anyone know whatβs happening with that? DPR site says itβs opening in fall of 2024.
Iβm looking for a psychiatrist who is familiar with military or law enforcement culture, for a 45 year old man. Any leads?
Funny cause that site isnβt allowed in NC anymore.
There were numbered black SUVs traveling in a motorcade style in Durham this evening with hazard lights on. No roads blocked off or police escort. Anyone know what it is/was?
Missed Connection - Duke Party Bus
you all were wearing white!! one of the bus drivers said your party was 1,000+ (plus)! i wanted to join you!
when the bus driver put her hands on me and threw me out of the way, it felt like a warm hug! then, two students tried to give me a warm hug too! it felt so nice being held up against an oncoming bus! how lucky am i?
you all were screaming! i was screaming! i didnβt know what to make of bus drivers and Duke males putting their hands on me, but i wanted to make connections and graduate! so it felt right!

My wife and I own a small pull behind camper trailer that needs some structural maintenance/repairs done. The last time we needed work done we took it to an RV retailer/maintenance shop and they took forever and experienced bad service. Anyone have any recommendations for a reliable place in Durham that works on trailers/campers?
Grandparents are in the hospital and I was driving back today to vote and planning to go back same day. I did not realize the polls closed at 3pm on the last day.
Is there anywhere taking votes later? I should arrive in Durham around 4:45pm
My groomers are retiring. Pampered Pooch has been wonderful but Iβll need a new spot, sadly. Open to suggestions!
Am I the only one thinking that when Discover Durham CEO Susan Amey says Durham Athletic Park is "underutilized," what she means is it is not yet a 5-story mixed-use apartment building?
What have you all heard about the Perkins & Will study (see article below) and who else is involved?
[edit: missing word]
Hey folks! Lifelong durhamite, first time poster.
I'm evaluating starting a food truck here in Durham. I have a few ideas, all of which fill a "void" in terms of food options in the area.
Would love to get some other ideas for what locals are looking for? What kind of food truck does Durham desperately need?
Edit: if you are a food truck or small restaurant owner and would be willing to chat, please DM me!
Hey all!
I had my truck broken into in the Wholefoods parking lot on broad st on Wednesday October 23rd and they stole my pedalboard with around $2000 worth of equipment. I attached a photo of the case it was in and can provide anyone interested with more information.
In hopes of getting it back, I filed a police report, but nothing has come of it. I also checked every pawn shop nearby and Facebook marketplace and Craigslist, but havenβt been able to find anything, so I thought I might make an account here and post to see if anyone has any leads or advice on this.
For context, I am an aspiring musician and spent so much of time and money trying to find the perfect tone. I finally completed my pedalboard this month and was so so happy with my baby, only to have it stolen. Whatβs sad is that someone near the parking lot told me that a lot of homeless people break into cars there, so I understand why they would take it and wish I could just speak with them. Iβm sure that they are in a desperate situation, and I would be willing to give them more than they would even be able to get out of it just because the board means so much to me :(
I have had stuff stolen from my car in Durham in the past, but never anything this meaningful to me. If you have any advice as to what I might do I would really appreciate it!!
Thanks π
Iβm looking for something delicious. No marks lost for being just simple and delightful. Important qualities: soft, gooey, cinnamony.
Hi bull city! My wife is preparing to go back to work in a couple of weeks after our son was born in August. We somehow have not figured out childcare π¬π¬π±π±π. We are on a couple of daycare wait lists (have been on one of them since late winter, right after we found out she was pregnant!) but very TBD when they may work out -- it could be next summer or later.
We're in the fortunate position of having some family help available in the near term, but would very much appreciate suggestions for options to look into, especially for something that might work out quickly. We were assuming we'd do daycare, but we'd be open to a nanny/nanny share situation as well.
We're in South Durham near Hope Valley. Convenience and cost effectiveness are definitely goals, but we know we may need to make some compromises.
Thanks so much for any help!
Hiya r/bullcity, it's Gabriel, operations manager at The Computer Cellar.
TL;DR: We're seeking input from the community about how to improve and expand; survey linked at bottom or comment here!
[apologies, this is verbose]
For over 14 years, we've been one of the Durham area's favorite resources for laptop and desktop repairs. We're still here, still fixing things, but I've gotta be real with you: things are kinda stagnant. Our core business lives on, though it's been hampered by reduced repairability of certain types of devices, and we've gone through a couple of painfully slow years here and there. Thankfully our volume (raw number of check-ins) has improved in the past year, to the point where it looks like things are trending upwards slightly, but financially these days, we just kinda stay afloat.
This makes things difficult, because my technicians' (and my) wages are also stagnant as a result. We just don't have enough revenue to pay computer repair techs what they're worth right now, and it's driving me crazy to be in that position. Likewise, we don't have much in the way of profits, which means there's not a lot to reinvest into new tools, equipment, shop updates, or additional services.
As a result, we're currently having ongoing discussions about what we could do to grow our business. One may simply be that we have to charge more for what we do. We've been proud to offer competitive pricing (usually cheaper than most of our competitors!) for many years, never charging beyond what we think is fair, but based on what I hear from people who tried another shop first, we may be pretty severely undercharging for some services.
We've also started discussions about offering one or two new services, namely scheduled, in-store consultations in a one-on-one environment, and possibly in-home services. The latter is intimidating, as we used to offer this but we found it to be a hugely lossy service. At the time, the shop was under different management, but I pushed to kill in-home service because it ate so much of our time in exchange for very little income. If we do offer in-home in the future, the new implementation will have a high minimum cost and pretty stringent pre-screening to make sure what's being requested actually makes sense to do in-home (or can ONLY be done in-home). Actual repairs are almost always best done in our shop with our tools, especially so that we can work on multiple things at one time.
We've also discussed having either a small class or presentation thing (that we'd have to charge some sort of admission for in order to be worth putting the time in) addressing common computer misconceptions, like the need for third-party antiviruses, for example; or possibly creating a service fully guiding people through the process of setting up reliable backup solutions.
I feel like there's probably some ideas that we simply haven't thought of, though, so I've decided to solicit your opinions. Obviously, redditors are a small subset of our customer base (which is mostly middle-aged to older Durham residents with limited technical understanding), so we won't blindly change things based on your input, but we will be taking everything we hear seriously and discussing it as a team.
The goal here is twofold: number one, if we're falling short in some way, we want to figure out ways to correct that. Number two, if there's some way we can better serve the Durham community, we want to try to do that. Of course, we're limited by our current team's skillset, our finances, and cold hard reality in some ways, so I'm not making any promises just yet, other than that whatever new things we do or adjustments we make, we will continue to put forth every effort to set a high mark for customer service and satisfaction, and that we'll continue to stick by the golden rule, as we have for many years!
I guess there's a third goal, in that we want to stick around! We get plenty of our repeat customers pleading, "don't ever leave", but truth be told, there's an ever-present possibility in the back of my head that we might have to fold at some point, if the industry continues its trends (thank goodness for right-to-repair activism, there's actually improvements happening that are helping improve things!)
We've set up an anonymous Google Forms survey that's less than a dozen questions long. If you have any other thoughts or don't feel like doing the survey, feel free to leave a message in the comments here and we'll look them over next week!
Thanks, everyone!

So wait, Mayor Leo falsely claimed to live at an address where he no longer resided when he cast his vote in March 2024?
The Board of Elections voting forms state clearly that "FRAUDULENTLY OR FALSELY COMPLETING THIS FORM IS A CLASS I FELONY UNDER CHAPTER 163 OF THE NC GENERAL STATUTES."

Iβve been in a very conservative my entire life and after starting therapy am realizing it really doesnβt fit my valuesβ¦ I still believe in God and the Bibleβ¦ but am wanting to explore other demonizations. Due to complicating factors ( aka kids) I canβt just visit various churches. Is there a co-ed or womenβs Bible study with multiple denominations represented that engage in meaningful and respectful conversation?
Quick! My husband and I have a tradition where we rank bar soft pretzels. Weβve lived here for a little over a year and still have yet to find the best soft pretzel. Where is your favorite place to grab a better than average soft pretzel thatβs not mall food lol.
Thanks in advance!
We have a room that has 2 entrances but no doors. We are trying to find out about how much it would cost to install one set of French doors and one clear glass window
Anyone suggestions for people to talk.
Thanks Howard
Does anyone have an A+ recommendation for a black car service that will drive me from Durham to Raleigh and back 3-5 days a week?
I will ignore all DM'd offers.
