Hi all, I've created an interactive history you might enjoy that shows the evolution of rail in Australia. You are able to see the Brisbane/Gold Coast/Rockhampton Tram systems, as well as various closed lines, including the monorail and of course all heavy rail that existed as well. This lets you view what rail existed on each and every year since 1850 through to the present day, and also allows you to see when certain events happened, including electrification, duplications and track singling.
This has been a pet project of mine for about 2 years now, and is always being added to as I find more lines/events.
You can visit it on railhistory.io
So on the whole I’m not as much of a hater of the NGR’s as most people who are closer to QR (I’ve heard they are a nightmare to actually drive) but please for the love of god as a customer can we refit the seats to be more comfortable.
I’m at the point I’ll take an all stopper to Beenleigh then swap to a Gold Coast train at that point to avoid taking a Gold Coast NGR all the way from the city even though my home station is Helensvale/coomera.
When the CRR opens and the CRR lines swap to only NGR’s can you imagine going from the GC to the SC on an NGR, you’ll need back surgery afterwards.
Is it too much to ask for a little more seat padding
I love the automated announcements so much. (Also if you have the pre Ross Newth ones that would be cool to :) )

I have had a recent idea for a future "Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail 2". The chief challenges it aims to solve is to:
My proposal is a new tunnel which would ideally achieve the following objectives:
It would be roughly a 6.5km twin tunnel to facilitate both the Gold Coast and Beaudesert Line, which I imagine would be very expensive. But I also imagine adding a 4th and/or 5th track to the existing Salisbury > Park Rd corridor would be almost the same cost without adding any new stations or cutting down journey time.
I have attached the map below, but essentially the Beaudesert Line would go underground after Acacia Ridge station towards an underground Salisbury station. At the same time the Gold Coast Line would go underground after Coopers Plains station and join at the aforementioned underground station.
From there both lines would stop at a new Tarragindi station, essentially filling in a mass transit black spot on the eastern part of Moorooka and the southern part of Tarragindi.
They would then go on to stop at a new Annerley station which would be on the other side of the motorway from the Greenslopes station. Interchange would be a bit tricky between these 2 stations as it is a bit of a walk between the 2 currently, but it would still provide mass transit options to the resident of eastern Annerley and northern Tarragindi who wouldn't have easily been able to access Greenslopes station before. There are also quite a few buses that already interchange very close to hear (112, 113, 114, 119, 120, 121).
After that the tunnel would eventually join back up with the existing Beenleigh Line just after Dutton Park station so that it can use the existing CRR tunnel from there.
Caboolture, Redcliffe and Sunshine Coast lines delayed up to 60 mins due to signal fault at Bray Park. I am starting to think that the northern line is cursed.
Spare a thought for the poor people on the 7:15am IPCA service who have been sitting at Geebung for almost an hour. Some trains also stopped at Lawnton for an hour as well.
Title. All trains fucked, and replaced by buses. Buses are overcrowded and overall not great situation.
Repost because I couldn’t figure out how to edit the body text of the original post lol
Does anyone know what level crossing this is? I got a bit lost on the e scooter today
I have a flight on Saturday morning (9th November) and I’d like to catch the train to the Domestic Airport from Taringa (obviously changing trains somewhere between Roma St and Eagle Junction) and get there at 10am.
The TransLink app seems to think this is impossible and offers no journies. Nothing is mentioned on the app about closures.
My question is, are there services this weekend or not?
So last week was a chaotic one to be travelling on the Sunshine Coast line, with an apparent lightning strike to the overhead line at Beerwah causing trains to stop between Caboolture and Nambour and a few trains getting stranded requiring evacuations. I went past Beerwah the next day once services resumed and there were a lot of QR staff on site inspecting some of the trackside equipment and possibly signals?
There was another storm related incident not too long after though where a similar issue occurred at Pomona, but despite being on the Nambour <--> Gympie North section of track, it caused the entire line to shut down north of Caboolture, with trains stranded at Nambour unable to return to Brisbane.
Does anyone know why an issue at Pomona would cause the whole SC Line to shut down? I remember when a freight train took out the overhead infrastructure at Cooroy in 2018 the report mentioned that the Woombye to Traveston section was able to be isolated, so it would appear that Nambour is vulnerable to any electrical issues happening in that section of track, but are they not at the very least able to run trains between Brisband and Landsborough? Or move the neutral section north of Nambour?
Not trying to complain, just trying to learn more about how the network and electrical hardware is split up.
Had my first ride on the metro from UQ. What a massive waste of money !!!
So, I was looking at old QR maps, and it turns out there is a map showing the old Esk RailBus. It runs from Ipswich to Esk 3 times each way every day. Anyone keen to try this sometime?
CRR is around the corner, and the ECTS 2 rollout continues as we await the construction of the Sunshine Coast Line.
Where does the fate of the Doomben Line sit?
My understanding of ECTS 2 is that the inner-city corridor would be able to support 48 trains per hour with ECTS 2 fully implemented. Once the Sunshine Coast Line is built we will have 6 lines besides the Doomben Line. Assuming that each of the other (much more popular) lines will want to run at 8 trains per hour if possible during peak we don't seem to have any left-over for the Doomben Line.
This is the fate that currently exists for it - one that only allows for 2 trains per hour at most.
Can the wider rail network support its continued existence, and will the eventually denser Hamilton be able to rely on an infrequent line?
My thoughts - perhaps controversial for this group - are that a busway is likely the best option for that corridor. Running 2 BUZ routes and a metro during peak would be able to accommodate about 3000 passengers per hour or roughly the equivalent of 3 trains per hour. If you wanted to get closer to 8 trains per hour you could run the metro every 2 minutes to bring the busway up to about 6000 or the equivalent of 6 trains per hour.
Hi r/brisbanetrains community.
I'm an artist and Brisbane Public Transport lover. I'm doing a comedic presentation/performance which is designed to get people to appreciate Public Transport and think more about how Public Transport Infrastructure impacts the livability of a city.
It's tongue in cheek but also very earnest, as I love trains (and all our Public Transport options really) and want to share that love!
I wanted to start a discussion about what your thoughts are about our transport system. Maybe you have a hot take about a specific train line, a great story about a trip you've taken, or a serious gripe about it all?
I hope this is an allowed post in this community. I'm genuinely curious about what my fellow train lovers think!
Why does the orange screen on the top front of the trains always blinking on and off?
Howdy. A few weeks ago I caught the train from Manly to Enoggera on the Cleveland to Ferny Grove line which I'd never heard of previously and now can't find any information on. No timetable. Nothing. Any info?
It would be really great to find out of this is a real train or I'm hallucinating. I take the train from Manly to Enoggera often and not having change trains would be a blessing.
