Cell provider T Mobile

Does anyone use T-Mobile for their cell provider? I'd be curious to know what your experience with them is for coverage and speed in this area.

Birds game in Brattleboro

Gonna be in Brattleboro Sunday from Philly on the way to some skiing. Any bar/brewery or spot that's got good energy for a football game?

Go Birds

Edit: it's just my wife and I.. not a gang of Philadelphians coming to town. 😅

Queer and drag spaces?

Hello all! Just gauging interest. It’s been a dream of mine to open a queer bar/lounge (of course, once I have the means to), and I noticed that Brattleboro doesn’t seem to have any queer specific hangout spots even though it’s super friendly. Would that be something people living there would be interested in? I’m a trans drag queen, so a big goal would be to provide a reliable place for drag shows too. Thanks!

C&S outsourcing Brattleboro jobs to Mexico

C&S announced this week internally that they’re letting go their customer service department and moving the jobs to Mexico. Lots of long time employees are losing their jobs.

Employees were told that they’d lose their severance if they said anything about it which is why I’m guessing it hasn’t been talked about much.

planning a move to the brattleboro area once i'm out of college. anything i should know?

hey y'all,

i'm in my senior year of college in boston right now. the last 3 and a half years have taken a lot out of me and i'm looking to get some space from the stress this city and my school have put me under. i visited brattleboro over thanksgiving with a friend and her family who had just moved there, and it left a wonderful first impression on me. it felt a lot more my speed as someone who grew up in rural appalachia, but thankfully a lot more welcoming to queer people which was damn refreshing to see since i'm trans. being on the amtrak line and a reasonable drive from the mbta fitchburg line is also a big draw for staying connected if i need to, and y'all seem to have a great local arts scene going which appeals to me a lot as a musician.

ass-kissing aside, what do i need to know? any rental market quirks? will it be hard to find work? i wanna make sure all my blind spots are checked before i dive into anything, so any and all useful info or advice is much appreciated.

thanks!

best place to get a tire swap done

The place I used in Springfield near home effed up the balancing when they did the swap on our first car ... TWICE. Since I work in Bratt I was thinking maybe there's a good shop in town I can use for our second car.

Also appreciate any advice on worst places to avoid :)

How accessible does NYC "feel" from Brattleboro?

I visited recently and was impressed by your town! I am young, have a remote job, and am hunting for somewhere my partner and I (childfree) can do our homestead thing while still having local stuff to do and access to a big city.

Having lived in rural places with zero trains, where 3-5 hours in the car only gets you to a second- or third-tier city, Brattleboro's direct Amtrak line to NYC seems awesome. I'd like to visit 6-8 times a year for the occasional concert and for the food, theater, museums, etc. Mostly long weekends but maybe a few longer trips.

Looking closer, though, I see there's just one daily train. And 5.5 hours is quite long. Driving looks like a bit under 4 hours, before traffic- but then you have to think about gas, tolls, parking, etc, and you can't read or nap on the ride.

So for those who live in Brattleboro, how often do you go down to NYC? How much of a slog is it? Would we be better off looking in the NY Capital region or Hudson valley?

Thanks!!

Anyone know why the pickup/delivery option at Hannafords has been down for a week?

We have an infant and it’s rsv/flu season, so trying to reduce exposure but I’m going to break and go inside to shop today because it’s unclear when or if it’ll be back up. Thanks in advance to anyone who has insight!

Any fun stuff happening this Sunday afternoon?

I have most of Sunday to spend in and around Brattleboro. Any fun, family friendly, outdoor activities or happening this Sunday? I would drive up to 90 minutes.

Internet wasn’t helpful for activities this weekend. Maybe there is a post-Halloween hangover for outdoor festivals.

anyone passing by the Ford dealership at Exit 3?

i live in western MA, a half-hour south of Bratt, and i just got the latest round of snailmail junk from Brattleboro Ford. they're running one of those scratch-and-win games, and the deal is that if your ticket shows a winning result, you have to go to the dealership in person to see whether the _actual_ winning number matches your printed "invitation code". any chance anyone's willing to brave the salespeople long enough to go peek at the 6-digit winning numbers? i only need the one for "slot 2".

Finding a short term rental

Hey! I know this is a long shot but I was wondering if anyone knew anywhere outside of marketplace, air bnb, and furnished finds, and Zillow where I could find a short term furnished apartment in or around Brattleboro? I’ve been looking to move in April and have been hit with road block after road block and I figured before I give up I would try on here to see if anyone knows someone who could help me.

In need of a car.

Hey does anyone have a car that they're desperately trying to get rid of? I'm currently out of a car and I don't have credit to get a loan and I'm living practically pay check to pay check. I'll take any old shitter as long as it can drive me to work and back.

Anyone else read the Joe Gunther series?

I'm living in Europe at the moment and I miss home. I started reading the Joe Gunther novels a while back, and decided to pick them up again. Its a detective series (I think about 30 installments!) by Archer Mayor. The main character Joe is a detective situated in Brattleboro, but also sometimes travels across the state. I'm starting book 3 now.

They are not masterpieces, but I think they're really good so far, for what they are. I really like hearing the names of the streets I know and getting the feeling of the town/state through a work of fiction.

Anyone else a fan? Anyone read the whole series? Thoughts?

Brattleboro

I’m turning 26 and I currently live in the capital region in upstate NY and I’m thinking about taking a leap and moving to Brattleboro VT in the spring. Is it a place where someone in their twenties could make friends easily?
