I was able to finish my MSW application within the early deadline date and I know in an email it said we’d find out in December, how soon in December would that be??
I just matched with BC through Questbridge and I was wondering how everything is there. How are the dorms and living situations? Is the food good? Is the material super difficult (probably majoring in biology). Also, is there a decent Muslim population? Any hijabis? Should I bring my car when I move in, or is there no point? Give me all your tips and everything.
BC is my #1 choice, and I'm so damn happy I don't have to worry about the admissions cycle any longer. I was a first-generation HS and college student, and I guess I'm also the first graduate student in my family!
I think the most unique part of my application was my age. I will be 19 when I get my undergraduate degree, and I pitched myself as someone skilled now, but I also have much more I can develop into.
I look forward to seeing everyone on campus!
I applied ED1 and on my portal there is no place for my grades, however my dean said she sent them through her portal to all of my schools. She said she can’t guarantee they look at it. Does anyone know if they do? Also, all schools have a space to be sent(including large state schools), so that spot isn’t a tell.
Woohoo I made the cut, congrats to everyone who got accepted into transfer!
i got admitted to MSN RN track but i was wondering how generous is BC with financial aid for graduate students. the nursing program starts in summer 2025 so they told me i would have to take out federal loans which i am okay for that term but not for all the terms. so i was wondering what are other grad students experience with financial aid, especially for ppl with lower income families or will be supporting themselves independently
There's a class I really want to take that isn't full but the remainder of seats are reserved, I emailed the professor for it about two weeks ago and then sent a follow up email about a week later(all before Thanksgiving break fyi) and haven't heard back. How should I approach this? Am I out of luck?
Out of curiosity, what major did you transfer into and what were your stats? Also, what semester did you transfer into?
As a freshman at BC, I’ve currently not had the best experience. Even being in a couple active clubs and organizations, I don’t feel as though BC is really sitting right with me. I want to know if BC is supportive and helpful in me transferring to other schools? Ultimately, if I do stay, is it fine that I still sent out applications to shoot my shot at some other institutions? My main goal is to have a backup if my second semester doesn’t cement that I like the school.
Hey do any of you know what this financial aid document is? It appears under "required documents" in my agora portal. Im a prospective student applying undergrad ed1. Any help would be appreciated
Hi everyone! I was admitted to the MS in Applied Analytics at BC. I also applied to MS Business Analytics programs and was accepted to UNH MSBA with funding. I was wondering if anyone is willing to share experience with the MSAA or any graduate programs to help me in making my decision.
How does the MSAA differ from MSBA? Is the MSAA less business focused (i intend to work in business)?
Hi folks,
Recently injured my leg and can’t really walk long distance. What is the best way for me to get to the stadium? I see that there’s a shuttle from the Reservoir station but I’m not sure if non student/employee like myself can use those.
Thanks,
Apologies if creating a new post instead of adding to this one from last week is frowned upon, but I wanted to express my gratitude for all the tips in that thread and for the great hospitality I received on my trip.
Here's an extremely long recap of my experience, along with some random observations:
I arrived in Chestnut Hill in the afternoon and grabbed a carne asada torta for a late-ish lunch from El Pelon. Solid, quick, and convenient college Mexican spot. I can see why it's popular.
I spent the next hour or so wandering around campus, which is as gorgeous as any I've seen. When I visited briefly last December, the trees were mostly bare, so being around a month earlier and getting to see the fall colors added to the scenery. I'm glad someone mentioned going inside Bapst Library; it was incredible.
In the late afternoon, I headed over to Notch Brewing at the Speedway to grab a beer. Pretty cool brewery and biergarten. I imagine it's really hopping in warmer weather.
I checked into my hotel (Marriott Newton ~5 miles down Commonwealth), then headed back to campus for the hockey game Friday night. It exceeded expectations. The student section was amazing -- standing all game, making noise, and taunting the opposing goalie with some fun cheers I wasn't familiar with ("Sieve! ... It's all your fault! It's all your fault!" etc). The quality of play was really impressive too. I honestly didn't know how comparable it would be to college football & basketball in relation to those pro sports, but it seemed to stack up very well. Really great atmosphere and game. It made me want to check out more college hockey games during future trips.
After the game, I headed to Cleveland Circle to grab a couple of late slices from Pino's. I wouldn't put it among the top pizza spots I've ever visited or anything, but it was the perfect college pizza spot: quick, reasonably priced, and better quality than most similar college pizza joints around the country.
On Saturday morning, I had it in my head that I would take a recommendation from the previous thread and check out Moogy's, where the menu showed some pretty exciting breakfast options. I didn't look closely enough at the operating hours, though, and showed up early only to realize they didn't open until 10am. So I made a quick audible and grabbed a breakfast sandwich from Jim's Deli up on Washington. Solid old-school diner that seemed to be a prime coffee spot for the local PD, whose accents were so perfectly Boston that it made me want to randomly yell, "Nomar Garciaparra!" in the worst impression I could muster.
Parked all the way out near Washington and made the long walk to campus. I was a little disappointed that the weather cancelled the team walk and pregame band performance in front of Conte, but I had a great time wandering around the tailgates and meeting folks. The parking garage tailgating was a nice cheat code for the weather, but I was impressed by the number of people who showed up in the cold & rain with tents ready and cartons of Dunkin coffee steaming. I eventually ended up talking to some folks with McGovern Auto Group, who twisted my arm into accepting steak tips, warm boozy cider, and a Cisco Brewers IPA or four. So overall, surprisingly good tailgating experience given the weather conditions.
The light crowd inside the stadium allowed me to move around a bit, so I got to see the whole stadium from various vantage points. Obviously, the weather was a factor and the game became uncompetitive by halftime, but I was impressed with the enthusiasm of everyone for "Mr. Brightside" and even when they played "Hot To Go." Ringing the bell after touchdowns was something I apparently missed during my pregame research, so that was a cool surprise too.
So what's with the narcs in the student section? I'm in my 30s, so I didn't really spend much time in that area, but as I walked around and took some pics/videos behind the student section, I noticed multiple security personnel with earpieces busting kids for alcohol. Is this not America?! I get not wanting the student section to turn into a s***show (and I'd be interested to know if there were some previous incidents that provoked this kind of enforcement), but seeing elevated spotters and guys with covert earpieces busting college kids for a beer during a football game seemed a bit much and wasn't something I've noticed in any of my previous trips to games around the country.
As a Florida alum and avowed Miami hater, seeing Flutie, Phelan, and the '84 squad honored on the field for the 40th anniversary of the Hail Mary was a very neat experience.
The crowd had depleted enough by the end of the 3rd quarter that the band's performance of "Sweet Caroline" didn't receive the ideal fan participation, but the band going around to play "For Boston" in different parts of the stadium was a really neat touch.
After the game, I headed to Eagle's Deli for a burger. They would've taken a lot of my money if I had attended BC. It's honestly kinda surprising these days to ask for a thick-patty burger cooked medium-rare and actually have it arrive medium-rare, and it's equally uncommon IME for grilled onions to be cooked down correctly, so kudos to Eagle's for nailing both.
After chowing down, I caught up with an old friend who happened to be in town, watched the later games, and grabbed a pizza from Picco just before it closed. It was spectacular IMO. Flavorful sauce, fresh cheese, perfectly spiced pepperoni, and a charred sourdough crust that I'm still thinking about almost a week later.
On Sunday, I ventured out of town and even state -- going to the University of Rhode Island to catch a basketball game and driving up to UConn to see the campus and check out its dairy store (college creameries are a strange fascination of mine) -- so Saturday was the end of my BC experience this go-round.
Overall, I had an amazing time in Chestnut Hill. In spite of the cold and wet weather on Saturday, I was impressed with the fan support and think I got a pretty good impression of how things could be if Bill O'Brien continues to develop the program and produce winning teams. Experiencing a BC hockey game and seeing the excitement it produces is proof positive of how great this fan base can be, and I genuinely think BC is on the right track to get back there soon. I look forward to coming back.
Anyway, sorry for the obnoxiously long post. Again, my sincere thanks to all of y'all for the tips and the hospitality I was shown.
One last thing: I've been traveling all around the country for games since 2018, but last season I finally caved to my friends' encouragement and have begun sharing some of my travels publicly. So if you'd like to see pics, videos, etc., I've posted a long "story highlight" to my Instagram page (@cfbtravelguy), plus several videos from the game. I also post some videos on TikTok (also @cfbtravelguy) and plan to put together lengthier trip reviews -- basically this post, but in video form with some additional commentary and clips from my trip -- on YouTube (@cfbtravelguy) after the season when I've got some spare time. Feel free to check that stuff out, and if you have questions about other places I've been, don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks again!
I am looking into schools (Umass, Lesley...) for elementary ed - I notice BC doesn't offer a Master's for Professional teaching license
"The Lynch School of Education and Human Development does not offer master’s degree programs leading to Professional Licensure."
From what I can gather, other college do offer this. What is the deal - is this an issue - am I just not understanding how the licensure works?
I'm a freshman at BC and I want to major in International Studies. The application is due February 20 meaning they're probably only gonna look at my first semester grades. due to some personal reasons, I did not do too well in the my first semester and I'm worried that I won't get in. Does anyone know around what GPA is necessary to be admitted or at least considered for admission to IS?
I am looking to transfer to BC this coming spring semester and was told the GPH major accepts students through their internal application once you get into the school. I know the program is brand new (last year) so I was curious if anyone here is currently in the program and can tell me about it? I'm split between MCPHS and BC but I want to get some insider perspective since it's such a recently started program.
i want my rat food
Does 56$ for two cheese pizzas and two cokes sound right ? I didn’t look at the prices but that’s what my card was charged at the game on Saturday
I'm pretty nervous about getting in as BC is my #1 for grad school! Here's to good luck!
Does anyone know if I can use my Flex Bucks or Dining Dollars on the vending machines with my Eagle One card? BC's website says you can, but every time I have tried on the one in my dorm, which says it can read the cards, it always tells me I have 0 credit, and it does not work. Am I supposed to tap, or swipe, or is there something else I am missing?
Can personal seat backs be brought into the stadium? We’re sitting in bleachers next week and it’d be nice to get some relief… Pitt commits so many penalties the games go on forever.
Heading to the game Saturday with some friends and family. Is there anywhere to grill and tailgate? Got an email from the athletic department with a map and not trying to pay $100 but anything less than says no grill and or no tailgating so trying to figure out realistic options even if just in the vicinity of the shuttles to get to the game.
Thank you for any and all help, tips, and tricks!
Has anyone heard any word about when ed1 comes out?
I know it’s in one of the garages but isn’t that garage open to everyone for free? Do I have to show up wicked early to get a spot? For football games
