Happy for tripti but movie name.

I am very happy for Tripti to see her in new films and getting new project as she is an outsider also with herself she made her career but I am quite worried also about that she has created a image of herself of a potential actor maybe she signed wrong project can be harmful for her career and she is new . She signed many films like bad news which look so bad and now this what are your opinions

Bringing back yet another random 2000s movie - Heroes (2008)

Plot Summary: Sohail Khan and Vatsal Sheth are velle college students and decide to create a documentary about why you shouldn't join the army (after one of their friends decides to). Movie is essentially split into 3 parts, with each part showing a different relation (i.e. a brother, a wife and a father) and stories of their loved ones and how they deal with losing them to the army. Obviously by the end, their whole perspective is transformed and they've got newfound respect for the army. Im pretty sure they end up joining the army themselves by th3 end (but I could be wrong). Mediocre movie at best.

There is a song in it called "Mannata" sung by Sonu Nigam and Kavita Krishnamurthy which I still find myself mumbling to.

Anyone seen this movie?

Unpopular Opinion on "Animal": The film not only refrains from glorifying misogyny, but it also isn't misogynistic as a whole.

The usual unpopular view regarding this film is that it's misogynistic, but it does not glorify it, and the protagonist faces repercussions.

My opinion diverges further into unpopularity. I contend that the film is not misogynistic. Although the character Rannvijay has serious flaws and poses a threat, I do not see him as a misogynist. Most of the actions that have upset people do not, in my view, qualify as misogynistic.

First, Let's look at a few incidents that are undeniably misogynistic or toxic:

  1. The scene where Rannvijay snaps his wife’s bra. This act could only be performed by a misogynist. However, this scene was not glorified. He receives a slap, and it is clear she now fears him. This is not an example of glorification.

  2. The "diaper" comment. A misogynistic remark, but was this outburst portrayed positively? No, it was depicted so negatively that his cousins felt compelled to ensure his wife's safety.

  3. His infidelity was unnecessary. He could have simply feigned affection for her, but instead, he slept with Zoya.

Now, for the actions deemed misogynistic that I disagree with. My criterion for sexism is simple: if we swap the gender of the alleged victim of sexism, will they have received a better treatment? If yes, it's sexism. If no, it's not.

A) The Alpha-Beta theory: Although the originator of this theory later disavowed it, it doesn’t negate the existence of a dominance hierarchy relevant to mating. Evolutionary psychology repeatedly shows that traits associated with 'Alpha' behavior can enhance reproductive success. Historically, a majority of men did not reproduce. Their genes perished with them. I can provide studies to back this up if needed. While there is no universal consensus among experts due to the controversial nature of the subject, the hypothesis that Alpha males exist and are preferred remains a credible theory.

B) The comment about wide pelvises: It’s a literal fact. If this angers you, then rationality may not be your strongest suit. The worst critique might be that he could have phrased it better or not mentioned it at all. As a tall person, I've been told that my height is advantageous for birthing strong babies, which never offended me.

C) Defending his sister from bullies: Having defended my own younger brother from bullies, I fully support Rannvijay in this. Due to a minor disability, my brother was prone to bullying more than usual. I intervened many times and even resorted to Violence. Nothing extreme though. Just the usual brawls in your schools & colleges. However, he should not have fired a gun in the classroom, as it could have harmed innocent people. The bullies got what they deserved. Given the risk that women face, if I was a girl, I would prefer to have a brother like Rannvijay than a pacifist who thinks violence is bad & toxic.

D) The violence in general: His entire family is under attack. His father was shot. His father’s lookalike was killed. Hundreds of assailants stormed his hotel. What is a man to do? Rely on the corrupt police? He did what was necessary to defend his family, even offering his adversary a chance to live if he ceased pursuing his family. Violence in self-defense is justified.

E) The shoe-lick scene: This acts as a litmus test to identify those who believe women should never face any consequences. Zoya was part of a scheme aiming to kill his entire family, including HIS KIDS. She was asked to lick the shoe, stopped from licking the shoe, and then respectfully escorted to a location of her choosing by his cousins. This is not misogynistic.

The venn diagram of those who don't want to reduce women to their genders and those who immediately reduced Zoya to her gender when she was facing consequences for her actions is a near circle.

If it was a man, he would be asked to lick the shoe, not stopped from licking the shoe, and then shot dead. If anything that makes it misandrist and not misogynistic.

F) Strangling and pointing a gun at Geethanjali: Rannvijay, obsessed with his father, reacts violently when told his father should be dead. Gender does not factor into this reaction. He would react similarly if a male relative made such a statement. This is not misogynistic.

G) Pointing a gun at pregnant woman: They were enemies protecting Abraar. Their gender is irrelevant. He would have threatened them had they been men. Interestingly, there seems to be heavy overlap between those who view a fetus as merely a clump of cells and those outraged by him pointing a gun at a pregnant woman. It’s unclear why the latter is so upsetting if it’s just a clump of cells.

These are the most frequent complaints I recall. Let me know if I missed any.

I am not arguing that he is an exemplary character. He is toxic, impulsive, and has issues with anger management. But the notion that he is a misogynist is, frankly, laughable.

Another excuse I usually hear "It's not the movie. It's the directors comments which is offensive." Anyone with such an excuse, can you tell me why there so much controversy about Kabir slapping Preethi, but none about Preethi slapping Kabir, BEFORE Vanga made any statements. The interview with Anupama Chopra was released on July 6, 2019. Here's a google search result link for all articles before July 5, 2019

Happy to change my mind if you can make your point without resorting to emotional arguments, personal attacks, and labelling. A well reasoned argument showing why those instances are misogynistic and I am wrong.

Your personal attacks will only validate my opinion btw. I see personal attacks as the weapon of those who cannot make logical, reason based arguments.

An easy way is to show how he would have treated a victim of his misogyny better if the victim was a male. For example, with the shoe lick scene. Show me how a male in the place of Zoya would have received a better treatment than she did, I will agree it was misogynistic.

Edit: After posting I see, it got way longer than I expected.

Shraddha Kapoor is too overrated. What say?

She calls herself as an actor. She needs to work on movies rather than Instagram.

Is it true that very little work going on in film industry right now???

I have heard that currently in Bollywood there is less work going on. Since last 6 month most of technicians are sitting at home and very few projects are going on this years.

What could be the reason ?

Does this warning for all departments ? Or just few months recession ?

Everyone is intrested in actors work but hardly few are interested in struggle of filmmakers. 😞😌.

Would love to hear some theories on Vinay Pathak as a universe-jumping entity

I know this is far-fetched, but I a lot of movies such as Bheja fry, chalo dilli, rab ne bana Di Jodi, khosla ka ghosla he appears into the protag’s life seemingly out of nowhere and then totally changes the tone of the movie by offering his help without asking for anything in return. What do you guys think about it?

We need more films like Highway

I watched Highway today and I wonder why Bollywood doesn’t make more films like these. I don’t know about the collections that this film made and maybe these story-driven dramas don’t work anymore but the satisfaction after watching a good film makes me wonder why we don’t get to see films like these more often. Alia Bhatt is really good but Randeep Hooda is a whole other level. Imtiaz Ali really knows how to tackle sensitive subjects and the movie is just very well shot. AR Rahman always has the best music so no surprise there 🫡 What do you guys think, why don’t we have more movies like these?

Bollywood needs to make a good political satire/comedy..but can it ?

Without taking names, given the political scenario in the past 10 years politics never had so much content for making an amazing movie. The IT cells , the fake news, the political goof ups, a hilarious take on being a crazy right wing vs an insane leftist. There is so much juice to write something totally hilarious. But...has anyone got the balls to make one ?

Unpopular opinion. Saw Anurag Kashyaps debut movie Paanch on YouTube. Quiet mediocre

So after watching some recommendations from youtuber Filmi Indian I saw paanch .This was supposedly Anurag Kashyaps debut into Bollywood, and his announcement to the big league. We were led to believe, that hadn't it been for a prudish censor board we would have seen a unique story of lust , betrayal etc.

But, I found it quiet mediocre. Barring Kay kays acting , the movie was as predictable as daylight.

Midway through the second you already realise how such noir movies end .

Why did Shahid Kapoor Never Became a star?

He has been in the industry for over 20 years and has pretty much everything one needs to be a star - good acting skills, good looks and a great dancer and has given some big hits aswell, but he never became a star and never gained any momentum after his hits, why is that?
