10/16: MELT with MARIS @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - Melt, the NY-based indie outfit that first made a splash with 2017 viral hit “Sour Candy” and has been gradually making a name for itself since with its gripping mix of soul, rock, and pop, has released its debut full-length album, ‘If There’s a Heaven’ and they stop in Boise mid-month with tourmates MARIS (Los Angeles) who is “best experienced live, MARIS and her music have a riveting aura that ensures all in attendance are in a safe place to be their happiest, truest, and most out-of-this-world selves.”
10/16: THE RED PEARS with ULTRA Q and THE HIGH CURBS @ Neurolux - LA rocknroll outfit The Red Pears take the crowned stage at the Lux. They’re on a massive tour with Oakland’s post-punk, shoegazey emo outfit Ultra Q and LA based Latino fronted cute fuzz garage band The High Curbs. Gonna be a perfect vibe for a mid-week hump day show at Lux!
10/17: TOUCHÉ AMORÉ with SOUL GLO, PORTRAYAL OF GUILT and SOFT BLUE SHIMMER @ Treefort Music Hall - Back in 2020, COS named stalwart post-hardcore band Touché Amoré's infectious single "Reminders" (from the album ‘Lament’) their top song of the year. Four years later, the band has announced the new album, ‘Spiral in a Straight Line’, that was released last week, and was produced by Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot). Philly’s hardcore punks Soul Glo are also on this stop, along with Austin black metal band Portrayal of Guilt and LA-based rock trio Soft Blue Shimmer. Come ready to rock!
10/17: MR. GNOME with DIRT RUSSELL and PORCELAIN TONGUE @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - Cleveland husband and wife artrock duo Mr. Gnome is baaaaack and you should come see them perform live on Thursday night at Shrine! They were one of the first bands to play Treefort Music Fest back in 2012 and then again in 2014, then they were mostly quiet until 2020 when they released ‘The Day You Flew Away’ and then they followed that up this year with the LP ‘A Sliver of Space’ which totally rips!
10/18: ZACH SEABAUGH @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - You might recognize the name Zach Seabaugh from Season 9 of NBC’s The Voice. Seabaugh’s singles “Slingshot”, “Christmas Lights”, and “Girl in a Coffee Shop” gained traction on TikTok and Instagram ahead of his debut album, ‘Mr. Nobody’, which was released in September of 2023. Catch’em on Friday in Boise, midway through a full US Tour.
10/19: HOMEBOY SANDMAN with ART MORERA, ANDY O & AXIOM and WINS @ Neurolux - Queens, NY-based prolific and hard-working rapper Homeboy Sandman brings the beats to the Lux with his signature off-kilter flow and insightful lyrics, paired with melodic tracks. Miami hip-hop producer and artist Art Morera to open along with locals Andy O & Axiom and wins to open the show and get you head boppin’.
10/19: KRBX RADIOTHON WRAP-UP PARTY: MINAMI DEUTSCH + CATSKILLS @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - Radio Boise just wrapped their annual fundraiser so let’s party with some live music! Get a healthy dose of krautrock at Shrine basement with Tokyo’s Minami Deutsch. “These self-described “repetition freaks” cite psychedelic rock and minimal techno as guideposts, but—as evidenced by a band name that is Japanese for “South Germany”—they’re really obsessed with krautrock.” - Pitchfork
10/19: MDOU MOCTAR with ROSALI @ Treefort Music Hall - Nigerian psychedelic four piece Mdou Moctar bring their groovy waves to Boise in support of their latest LP ‘Funeral for Justice’. Rosali to open. Bandcamp has said “Rosali’s ‘Bite Down’ is one of 2024’s most remarkable records, arriving fully-formed with songs lightly blending a smooth and poppy style of inward-looking yet universal singer-songwriter fare and cosmically-inclined free-form rock experimentalism.”
10/20: M.A.G.S. with BARELY CIVIL @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - M. A. G. S. is a solo project created by artist Elliott Douglas. He started out as a drummer, and it is evident how his musical background worked its way into his songwriting process. Unlike most indie musicians, M. A. G. S.’s music puts a heavy emphasis on the rhythm section and less of a melodic emphasis; it is clear that Elliott “makes music for drummers."
10/20: MY BRIGHTEST DIAMOND with NOIA @ Neurolux - Chamber pop project from Shara Nova, who is currently a vocalist in the Broadway production of Sufjan Stevens theatre/dance production ‘Illinoise’, has announced a new album as My Brightest Diamond and she’s stopping in Boise at Neurolux on Sunday while on a full US Tour. And get there early for NOIA – she was one of my faves from Treefort 2024 in her bright pink cut-out-star suit!
10/21: SHADOW WORK with RHODES HULL and CAPTAIN SNAFU @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - “Denver locals shadow work’s music is the kind that gets in your bones. It permeates the marrow, makes home in that which keeps you upright and stepping forward. It’s propulsive in that manner and electric like the neurons firing in your brain that make consciousness possible. Their new single, “Peak A Boo,” exemplifies this. The song, like many of shadow work’s, is an exercise in tension, an ebb and flow kind of tune that walks the knife’s edge between control and chaos.” - 303 Magazine
10/22: GIRLSCHOOL with ALCATRAZZ and LILLIAN AXE @ Shrine Social Club [Ballroom] - Girlschool, touted as the longest-running all-female rock band, has toured plenty of times with their British compatriots Motörhead over the course of almost 40 years and now they’re making a stop in Boise on their last tour ever. Don’t miss this epic night of historical rocknroll, y’all! Here’s an article with some good background on the band as the OG Riot Grrls.
10/23: DR. FRESCH with ERO808 and KANDERS10 @ Treefort Music Hall - Dr. Fresch is literally a super well known DJ and producer known for blending Bass House with West Coast Hip Hop and performing high energy DJ sets. Also on the bill is ero808, magnetic magazine wrote "In addition to being the vocalist on hit tracks like “HEADSHÖT” and AYYBO’s “HYPNOSIS,” ero808 has proved to be a one-of-a-kind artist. His latest anthem “MANSA MUSA” is an intricate fusion of rap, hip-hop, and trap that will transmit vibes throughout your entire body. Mansa Musa was the wealthiest king in the history of the world, with his name literally meaning King Musa, since mansa was the word for king. This alludes to ero808’s rise to the top of the music world. The song is also coupled with a visually mesmerizing lyric video."
10/23: HOTEL FICTION with MCKENNA ESTEB @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - Athens GA indie rockers Hotel Fiction who lit a sofa on fire for their “Still Frozen” music video and it unintentionally kept aflame, you can watch it all go down (or up?!) here and be sure to catch these hotties live in the basement with locals McKenna Esteb.
10/24: SAM LACHOW with WINS and ZERO @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - Bi-coastal (Seattle and NYC) rapper Sam Lachow stops in Boise next Thursday night for one helluva show in the basement at the Shrine with his friend and bandmate Will Gerhardt (on keys) who was hit by a car while on a run in Dec of last year and suffered a severe brain injury – he’s luckily made a full recovery and you can catch him with Sam Lachow at Shrine along with locals WINS and ZERO.
10/24: JW FRANCIS and JAGUAR SUN with INDIGO WAVES @ Neurolux - double headliner wowza gonna getchya – NYC lofi jangle dream slacker bedroom pop from JW Francis has teamed up with the dreamiest pop from Jaguar Sun on a 25-city North American tour and we’re lucky enough to be a spot on their route! Tourmates Indigo Waves to open.
10/25-10/26: THE SHRINING @ Shrine Social Club [Ballroom] - a Duck Club Halloween Weekender feat. two nights on both levels of the Shrine Social Club with live music, flash tats, drag performances, BINGO, late night dance parties and spooky surprises! Catch Seattle’s risk-taking, rhythmic producer Chong The Nomad, LA psychedelic partiers Frankie and the Witch Fingers, LA-by-way-of-SLC artrock punks Sego, Portland rippers Spoon Benders, plus a handful of local bands! Get your 2-day pass right now for only $50 when you use code DULLBOY at checkout!
10/25: SHIP WREK with NO THANKS, CDIGI and JILLY.FM @ Treefort Music Hall - AHOY! LA-based deep house DJ duo Ship Wrek will shore up at the Hall later this month. They have been making waves in the electronic music scene since the duo first came together in 2019. What started as a future bass project has evolved into one focused on delivering dancefloor-ready house tracks with rolling basslines and alluring vocals. Last year, Ship Wrek dropped some serious heat with tracks like “Jumpstarter” with DLMT, “The Function,” and “Peace Of Mind” with Disco Lines and Daya, while also playing the coveted kineticFIELD stage at EDC Las Vegas, among other festival appearances. Their recent collab with Dillon Francis took the scene by storm earlier this year, so get your captain’s hat and hop aboard this dancing ship!
10/26: KATE NASH with REVENGE WIFE and JOH CHASE (solo) @ Neurolux - “Born in London in 1987, Kate Nash, is an actor and musician. After studying theatre at the Brit School, she was discovered on Myspace and in 2007 released her hit single Foundations. Her debut album, Made of Bricks, went to No 1 and won her a Brit award. After being dropped by her label in 2012, Nash went on to release three albums independently, as well as starring in the Netflix show about female wrestlers, Glow. Her fifth album, ‘9 Sad Symphonies’, is out now. Nash lives in Los Angeles and London.” - The Guardian. Opening up this night of pop will be west coast singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joh Chase as well as New Hampshire’s brat pop act Revenge Wife.
10/26: VAULTBOY with JORDAN SUASTE @ The Shredder - He’s been dubbed “the King of Sad Songs” by Rolling Stone and vaultboy is bringing his creativity songwriting to the Shredder for an all ages show later this month with equally vulnerable tourmate Jordan Suaste who is ‘championing themes of self-worth in his music, Suaste recognizes and embraces the value in individuals, no matter where they are in life. The high-school dropout— and once homeless struggling musician— has lifted himself into a bonafide rising artist that always stays true to his unique DIY mentality.”
10/27: LOST OX with DAVID HENRY BAND @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - Portland’s Lost Ox blends funk, psychedelia, jazz, Americana, and prog rock into a genre-blended jam sesh! Locals David Henry Band will get you grooving in the basement, so get there early!
10/29: DOPAPOD with SPUNJ @ Shrine Social Club [Ballroom] - Calling all jam band fans! This is your last chance to catch these palindrome-loving, prog-rock legends before they take an infinite hiatus. The band wrote on social media. “Starting in 2025, Dopapod will no longer be touring, recording, or writing for the foreseeable future. The last sixteen years have been an unbelievable adventure. We really did get to experience the whole spectrum of having a full time, professional touring band. To paraphrase Homer Simpson: ‘The dizzying highs, the crushing lows, the creaaaaamy center.’ All of it, the highs, lows, and everything in between has been an absolute treasure trove of life and learning experiences.” SO DON’T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY, y’all!
10/30: BOOGNISH RISING: A TRIBUTE TO THE MUSIC OF WEEN with A MIGHTY BAND OF MICROBES @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - Ween holds a special place in my heart. ‘Chocolate and Cheese’ was the first CD I ever purchased on my own back in middle school. I guess it’s only fitting I ended up working in the emerging artist realm of music, right? Anyway, Boognish Rising is a Boise, ID based tribute band spreading the works of the Demon God™ themself. Named after a collection of rare demos that was unreleased from the band, expect to sing along to all your faves. I hear the opening band A Mighty Band of Microbes might have an unusual member on stage with them – a Unicycling Accordionist. You gotta see it to believe it, my friends.
10/30: MUNGO: AFTERMATH ALBUM RELEASE @ Treefort Music Hall - Boise-based artist Mungo is wapping up a tour throughout the PNW to celebrate the release of their newest album ‘AFTERMATH’ that is scheduled to drop mid-November. Opening this run of shows is Faith Mussa who is currently Malawi’s first and only “electronic 1 man band” combining traditional African vibes with Modern Sounds. He has also been part of prestigious music festivals all over the world like Glastonbury 2017 - UK, Watana music festival 2018 - Mozambique, Lake of Stars - Malawi & UK, Sauti za Busara 2019 - Zanzibar and many others.
10/31: DJ SUSAN and KALEENA ZANDERS: A BEAUTIFUL LIFE TOUR @ Shrine Social Club [Ballroom] - Celebrate your ninth Halloween at Shrine. Not only is Kaleena Zanders a top house vocalist, songwriter and producer she’s also a social justice warrior and as an eighties baby, her tracks hit all those nostalgic 90s-house-music-with-strong-Black-female-vocals vibes for me, just listen to her remake of "Rhythm is a Dancer". Catch her on Halloween night with DJ Susan with his trunk-thumping tech house beats :)
I write up these bits about shows coming to Boise for the press, but was thinking y'all might wanna get some insider info, too! Lemme know if this isn't allowed here, mods 🤷🏼♀️
xx,
megs
10/1: ABHI THE NOMAD with KHARY and HARRISON SANDS @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] -Indian rapper Abhi the Nomad stops in Boise at Shrine Basement on his last tour ever – at only the age of 31, Austin's Abhi The Nomad is taking an indefinite musical hiatus. Don’t miss this last chance to see’em live TONIGHT with Khary who delivers a blend of ‘90s-era rap and internet-age experimentation and the soulful sounds of Harrison Sands. Also, local Travis Powell will be getting the crowd going! Wear your fave jumpsuit and you might be mistaken for a bandmate :)
10/2: FOG LAKE with FOXES IN FICTION @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - the lo-fi singer songwriter Aaron Powell, better known as Fog Lake, returns to Boise (they last played in the spring) this time with Foxes in Fiction, the project of Toronto-native/NY-based artist Warren Hildebrand.
10/3: LUCAS BENOIT and MIKE COYKENDALL, JOHNNY FRANCO & HIS REAL BROTHER DOM with MACI MATTRAVERS @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - Portland's Lucas Benoit is co-headlining the bill with veteran songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Coykendall. Also on the bill is a mustachioed Brazilian rock and roll troubadour named Johnny Franco and (his real brother) Dom -- a high energy duo who recently moved from Sao Paulo to PDX and start it off with BSU student Maci Mattravers :)
10/3: CARTER VAIL with THE OTHER ROOM THERE @ Neurolux - Carter Vail is a TikTok star!! Known for “Dirt Man” you’ll get to watch as his cowboy persona comes to life at Neurolux on Thursday night! This show is SOLD OUT
10/3: An evening with PHOSPHORESCENT @ Treefort Music Hall - Phosphorescent, aka singer, songwriter, guitarist Matthew Houck has been at it for a while and developed quite the cult following. He released his eighth album ‘Revelator’ back in the spring. One press outlet said it's "a powerful beast. A collection of doomed and damned ideas circling in a tense yet intimate and alluring sound. Matthew Houck returns six years after his previous Phosphorescent album with a warmth like no other."
10/4: ILLUMINATI HOTTIES with DAFFO @ Neurolux - Flood Mag said of her ‘Let Me Do One More’ album, “its riot grrrl satire, its devastating eulogy to Tudzin’s dog, its absurdist low-key violent lyrics (“I’m biting my lip and I’m biting yours, too / ’Til the blood tastes like chocolate goo”)—not to mention its inclusion of “MMMOOOAAAAAYAYA,” easily the most outlandish, unique indie-pop song of 2021. With her new album ‘Power’, Tudzin has purged most of the mischievous experimentation from her system; the leftovers feel made by someone in a happier place, but largely lack the moxie and irreverence that set her apart.”
10/4 - BORIS with STARCRAWLER @ Treefort Music Hall - We welcome Japan’s experimental metal band Boris to the Hall this weekend where they'll perform their beloved first album ‘Amplifier Worship’ in its entirety. The band also announced they've teamed up with Third Man Records for a 25th Anniversary Vinyl release of the album. Starcrawler to open.
10/4: EVAN HONER with THOMAS ROWLAND @ Shrine Social Club [Ballroom] - known for his heart-wrenching lyrics, folk’s up-and-coming Evan Honer stops in Boise on a headlining tour in support of his album ‘Fighting For’ which was released back in June (Cloverdale Records). Tickets are moving very fast here.
10/5: TARA BROOKS AND LEE REYNOLDS with DEEVEAUX and LEGZ @ Treefort Music Hall - co-presented by Duck Club and Half Weekend we’re bringing Tara Brooks with special guest – the grandfather of raves, co-founder of Desert Hearts, Lee Reynolds to The Hall on Saturday night with local guests Deeveaux and Legz!
10/5: SUN BLOOD STORIES with THE FRENCH TIPS and PORCELAIN TONGUE @ Neurolux - So excited for the return of Sun Blood Stories to Boise with a stellar lineup at Neurolux. SBS has been around about as long as Treefort and I’ve seen them in various settings across Idaho and the PNW. They always play their hearts out, like this could be the last show ever – so very incredible live. This should be an awesome home town return show with The French Tips and Porcelain Tongue, to boot!
10/5: BILL FRISELL & PETRA HADEN @ Shrine Social Club [Ballroom] - Head to the ballroom at Shrine to catch the iconic duo feat. jazz guitarist/composer Bill Frisell and vocalist/violinist/composer Petra Haden for a magical show, seated event (6pm doors, 7pm show), no assigned seats – it’s all first come, first served. Downstairs, catch Matt Braunger (see below)
10/5: MATT BRAUNGER @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - OK so this is our first comedy show at the Shrine – and while we’ve got the Bill Frisell & Petra Haden show upstairs, you can still be knee slappin’ downstairs (doors at 7pm, show at 8pm)
10/7: GOTH BABE with THE ACES @ Revolution Concert House - last time Goth Babe came through Boise it was a sold out show at The Hall so we bumped it up to a bigger room to accommodate more fans and we’re already quickly closing in on this one. And if you missed The Aces at Pride Weekend, be sure to get there early to see’em live!
10/8: JADE BIRD – “OPEN UP THE SONGBOOK” @ Shrine Social Club [Ballroom] - this will be an intimate seated show at Shrine, Jade Bird is about to embark on a Fall Tour supporting Wild Rivers and My Morning Jacket .
10/9: FIELD GUIDE with JOE KAPLOW and WES SCHLAG @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - Winnipeg singer-songwriters Field Guide make a stop in the City of Trees with their full band of soft rockers in support of their new album ‘Rootin for Ya’ (released via Birthday Cake Records). Locals Joe Kaplow and Wes Schlag to open.
10/10 - BIZZY BONE @ Treefort Music Hall - Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's youngest member Bizzy Bone is pullin' up to TMH! Combining rapid raps and laid-back singing, there's nothing Bizzy loves more than throwing a party for his fans. Lock in with the crew for an anticipated performance from this super fast, prolific rapper. His background story is wiiiiild -- he was abducted and abused as a child and it was the TV Show, America's Most Wanted who helped save him! You can learn about that here. Since then, Bizzy has formed a non-profit org to help other children.
10/10: ROSIE TUCKER with MAKAYLA KING @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - Rosie Tucker (they/them) is a whip-smart queer poet songwriter armed with an acrobatic command of melody and metaphor and they’re bringing their "surging pop hooks and sharp lyricism." (Pitchfork) songs to Shrine. Local Makayla King to open.
10/10: FREE SALAMANDER EXHIBIT with UZ JSME DOMA @ Neurolux - three of art-metal ensemble Sleepytime Gorilla Museum’s core members have gotten together to form the presumably bizarre Free Salamander Exhibit. They’re touring through with Czech avant-rockers Uz Jsme Doma – some article I dug up from 1999 said “After surviving years in the Czech underground as an illegal group, the band emerged as rock stars in their native country--and songwriter Mirek Wanek even served as leader of an interim local government. The band's concerns have mostly been about the hidden workings of humanity rather than politics, however.”
10/10: HEALY @ The Shredder - Think Soundcloud R&B who in 2015, Healy dropped a few songs on the platform that quickly went viral. At the same time, Healy was entering his doctoral program at the UT Knoxville in physical therapy. By 2018, he had not only signed with a major label, recorded his debut album, and been on tour, but he also earned his PhD. So, yea, Healy’s not only an incredible musician, but he’s also a whole ass doctor too.
10/11: BANSHEE TREE with SURF GREEN MACHINE @ Neurolux - Banshee Tree brings their sounds of electric & acoustic instruments with a diverse blend of dance, jam, & early jazz into a frenzied, earthy dance music that’ll surely get you to dance at the Lux.
10/11: SHOW ME THE BODY with HIGH VIS, SPECIAL INTEREST, BIB and BEARCAT @ Treefort Music Hall - Two bands who are leading the current wave of the hardcore scene stop in Boise for one ripper of a show plus a stacked a lineup with them. NYC’s Show Me The Body, "like other current hardcore bands making waves in the past few years, doesn’t stick with the genre’s typical signifiers. Pratt’s primary instrument is banjo, and it’s attached to sounds that draw not only from hardcore’s past, but also electronic blasts of noise and even some hip-hop. Show Me The Body’s latest album 'Trouble The Water', and it’s both tense and intense. It’s a hell of a listen, though the band needs to be seen live to fully experience it.” And London’s High Vis whose “version of hardcore dials in a healthy dose of British post-punk. They’ve been described as a mix of Factory Records and Cro-Mags—that’d be the legendary label that spawned Joy Division and New Order... There are elements of goth in there as well, but with a smart, sneering energy that’s tough to deny.” And don't miss Special Interest, BIB and Bearcat!!
10/11: SHANNON & THE CLAMS with THE DESLONDES @ Shrine Social Club [Ballroom] - doo wap she bop, one of my earlier memories of working in “the industry” was seeing Shannon and the Clams and was instantly transported to a time I had never lived, but suddenly felt at home. Her raspy yet feminine voice evoked a sense of greaser sock-hop anthems of Hollywood prom bands and counterculture-era club nights and I was hooked. Nearly a decade later I’ve seen and promoted Shannon & The Clams and followed along with their journey – their latest album comes as a series of tragedies struck Shannon Shaw, her fiancé was tragically killed in 2021 and this is the album that tells of her sadness. Its both heartbreaking and beautiful and I cannot wait to see it live.
10/12: PRINCE DADDY AND THE HYENA with BEN QUAD, CLIFFDIVER and HEART TO GOLD @ Neurolux - Prince Daddy & the Hyena just wrapped up a tour with Saturdays At Your Place, Carpool (see also 10/12 at Shredder) and Riley!. Their last album is their great self-titled 2022 album aaaaand they’re about to embark on a stacked tour with their Pure Noise labelmates, Microwave at the end of this month.
10/12: THOU and SLOWHOLE with GHOROT and CRUSH THE MONSTER @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - Baton Rouge-based sludge/doom outfit THOU to bring the heavy tunes to the Shrine next weekend co-headling with NOLA noise rock group Slowhole, along with locals Ghorot and Crush the Monster! Earlier this year, Thou released their fifth full length via Sacred Bones Records. Your Saturday night never sounded so dark.
10/12: SATURDAYS AT YOUR PLACE with CARPOOL, HARRISON GORDON and TRSH @ The Shredder - Speaking of Saturdays, Kalamazoo, MI emo outfit Saturdays At Your Place (SAYP) released one of Brooklyn Vegan’s favorite punk albums of 2023 with the ‘Always Cloudy’ EP (released on No Sleep), followed by a top-notch split EP with Summerbruise and Shoplifter that finishes with a song about your cat and now they’re gonna be kickin’ it in Boise next wknd for an all ages show with tourmates Carpool, Harrison Gordon and TRSH. This is an early show – doors at 6:30, show at 7:30pm
10/13: PETER MCPOLAND with ARCADE SARCASM @ Shrine Social Club [Ballroom] - another rising singer songwriter that’s sure to be your resident Gen Z’s list of must sees this year! McPoland released his debut album, ‘Piggy’ (Columbia Records) back in August of last year and its no surprise that he’s got TikTok to thank for his own virality. Also, it’s been rumored that he and Youtuber/influencer-turned-entrepreneur Emma Chamberlain are dating. This show is on track to sell out, please let us know ASAP if you want to cover it.
10/13: JUVENILE W/ THE 400 DEGREEZ BAND with MANNIE FRESH @ Treefort Music Hall - Y’all it’s JUVENILE – playin all the club bangers every millennial has shaken it to from “Back that Azz Up” to “Slow Motion” and “Rodeo”. He’s an icon, a legend and he’s going to be here in freakin’ Boise, celebrating 25 years of Back that Azz Up! And if you haven’t caught his Tiny Desk Concert, do yourself a favor and watch it now. Also, Mannie Fresh to open. Fresh is a record producer, DJ and rapper from NOLA. He is best known for his production work for Cash Money Records - girl, who is you playin with?
10/14: SPRINTS with SLOW FICTION and DOWNCOAST @ Shrine Social Club [Basement] - self-professed Dublin “garage noise” group Sprints comes to Boise to rock the Shrine! Stereogum named them a Band To Watch last year, and their debut LP ‘Letter To Self’ was their first Album Of The Week back in Jan 2024. And just last week they dropped the single “Feast” which “veers into the glam-grunge territory inhabited by bands like Cherry Glazerr as Karla Chubb repurposes biblical imagery in a queer context. Gonna be fresh, gotta check it out.
10/14: WILLI CARLISLE with DUG @ Neurolux - Arkansas-based folksinger Willi Carlisle falls somewhere between a poet and songwriter and his remarkable album ‘Critterland’ (Signature Sounds), was released earlier this year and it’s making waves across the LGBTQ+ communities. He’s said “I've never been part of certain queer subcultures or visibility movements. For me, being queer always lived at truck-stops, on Craigslist, while couch-surfing, and frequently involved being afraid, closeted, and tough. It never presented itself in a "respectable" way, so I feel very seen when other LGBTQ+ people like it. At the heart of queerness is a relationship to love, friendship, and sex that goes beyond procreativity, marriage, property, or gender. If I get to sing that into the world, I'm happy.”
10/14: L8 BLOOMER + FRIENDS @ Treefort Music Hall - It’s a LOCALS HIP HOP NIGHT mid-month at the Hall feat. hip hop outfit L8 BLOOMER with friends – Cigs Inside, Hudson Powder Company and wins ++ Jilly.fm.

Happy to report that a program I proposed for Boise Hive has been approved! Starting January 31st (and last Tuesdays of subsequent months) will be the first Musicians Mixer. The point of the mixer is to be a place for musicians and musician adjacent individuals/businesses to be able to build contact networks in a safe, sober space. If you're an individual looking to build or join a project, an existing project looking for new members, a project looking for others to join an upcoming show, or just someone who wants to talk music to other musicians, come to the Hive January 31!
If you work in musician related businesses, you are also welcome to attend, and I'd love to discuss (5-10min) guest speaker opportunities.
Looking to sell 2 tickets to tonight’s show. Originally paid $191.50. Looking to sell for $150 OBO
My husband and I can’t go, but I don’t want them to go to waste. I can forward the download link to your email.
Update: They have been given away!
