Bodyguard - a BBC show created by Jed Mercurio released in 2018.
Set in and around the corridors of power, Bodyguard tells the story of David Budd, a heroic but volatile war veteran now working as a Specialist Protection Officer for the Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch (RaSP) of London's Metropolitan Police Service. When he is assigned to protect the ambitious and powerful Home Secretary Julia Montague, Budd finds himself torn between his duty and his beliefs. Responsible for her safety, could he become her biggest threat?
Created and written by Jed Mercurio, this six-part British police political-thriller stars Richard Madden as Sergeant David Budd and Keeley Hawes as Home Secretary Julia Montague.
The series began broadcasting on BBC One on 26 August 2018 and immediately climbed to the top of most watched series.

The first three episodes were strictly about Budd’s role as a bodyguard which was KILLER. The final three turned into a typical police whodunnit, with Budd doing nothing ‘bodyguard’ related. Why did they take the show in this direction? Was there a genuine reason as to why they scrapped the whole bodyguard role? I still think the show is great nonetheless but surely there were ways they could’ve made Budd still be a bodyguard? I was expecting the final episode to have him undertake his role for the last time but…no…the whole ‘bodyguard’ theme kinda slowly dies out and by the time the show ends you forget he was even one in the first place
Jed Mercurio just keeps teasing about how possible it might be for season 2 and yet there is no confirmation.
It’s indicated to start in june 2025.
Thats like a 7 year gap.
Am sure they won’t bring back Julia. I still want the plot to be continued ahead….
SPOILERS for the 2018 BBC TV show BODYGUARD if you haven't watched it.
I just rewatched the show and I have two plot points that I can't figure out:
In ep 5, David asks a friend for an untraceable PSL weapon - why did he do this?
In ep 4, David tries to shoot himself but the bullets were blanks. In ep 6, the organized crime boss Luke Aitkens admits his team replaced the bullets - a) why did they do this? and b) how did they know he even had a gun and where it was hidden (behind the concealed panel).
This is one of the best TV series I've seen in years. I'd really hate for it to end here.
In episode 1, there is the “mixed race” scene. A male politician refers to Dave as a “monkey” to which he replies “I’m mixed race”.
After that the male politician then gets on the phone and says something like “I need to record my side of a conversation with a PPO”.
My question is, what is this phone conversation about? Is it like HR and he is putting his comment on the record in case it turns into a thing? Or is it something else?
Anyone know when season 2 is being released?
Has anyone else here watched Jed Mercurio’s previous show BODIES? I love it! I need to talk about it with others!
Just watched this show and I i've searched the internet for answers/comments but no one has said anything.
In the first love scene in episode 2, why is Julia suddenly wearing a robe?? 😂😂 not just after but DURING. I guess they re-shot the previous scene in a different outfit or something??
Super random and really bugs me for some reason lol
I genuinely thought when this show came out and got super popular through Netflix, that it was the most generic show that panders to the generic crowd that uses Netflix.
I thought the plot would be that the main character is the bodyguard of someone high up in position in the government and the show would showcase his skills and tactics (a Hollywood version of it) to dispatch of the enemies towards the person he is protecting.
What I did not expect was all the other aspects of the government showcased in such detail. What I did not expect was the conspiracies and sabotaging that would be showed in the show. Everyone was sleezy. Well almost everyone.
And finally, I did not expect the intimate relationship that would form between David and Julia. Seriously, I was watching this with my parents and they started fucking on the show, never have I ever moved so fast in my life to get the remote to fast forward those scenes everytime it happened. And then one time it just cut to them directly fucking, no build up, nothing. I WAS STRESSED!!!!
But goddamn, this show was AMAZING!!!
I, like most people, loved Richard Madden in Game of Thrones, but this showcased his acting capabilities waaaaaaaay more than I've ever expected after seeing him in GoT. He was incredible in the show. His facial expressions alone during some of the emotional scenes were genuinely gut-wrenching to watch.
Keeley Hawes!!!! Thought I was going to hate her character like David did in the start. But the great portrayal of her how we view her as a politician and how we view her as a human, and Keeley's incredible portrayal of both was great to see. Also, damn this woman is horny as fuck!! Sidenote: learned that she is the wife of Matthew MacFayden, jesus christ what a talentef couple!!
Special shoutouts to actors and actresses that portrayed all the politicians and terrorists (>!That Nadia twist was CRAZY!<).
Specific special shoutouts to the actor and actress of Louise and Deepak Sharma!!!!!!!!
Idk if it's just me but I genuinely liked Vicky better than Julia. Might be controversial but I wanna know how y'all feel.
hopefully louise gets better in season two because rn her character is the most infuriatingly annoying person in the entire show. the face that somebody can be this dumb and miss such a plethora of context clues and evidence yet still go up the ranks like she has is baffling.
Very interesting update 🤨
Trying to not get excited about this! Very curious on plot.
[Possible spoiler] Searched this sub and Reddit and didn't find a post mentioning this so I had to make one. Not enough is said about how beautifully the first love making scene between Julia and Budd is portrayed and enacted. Richard Madden is phenomenal actor. The way his face conveys the character's complex emotions of pain , trauma and ultimately the comfort from the embrace of another who is suffered a similar trauma, is pure craftsmanship!
The indirect subtle portrayal of scene is so beautifully done too. You don't really see the two have sex, yet you can sense how deeply intimate that encounter is. It's one of my favorite lovemaking scenes on television!! Wish it was appreciated more!!

How did David Budd get that book which he looks up and does an internet search ?
Is it his own ? If so when did he write those points before ? or how did he get those points ?
If it is not his, and maybe Juila's, when did he get access to this book then ?
I know British shows take a long time but do y’all think season 2 will even happen? Sherlock took a minute too for each season to come out too
