Thank you so much for your time!
ThisĀ 30 seconds surveyĀ is part of research on theĀ effect feet health has on blues dancers' performance.
https://survey.typeform.com/to/CYkPaCi4
In the first survey Iām hoping to learn more aboutĀ the motivation of dancersĀ in this group.
As a way to say thanks š once finished, IāllĀ publish insights from the research to this group.
Thank you.
So I was watching YouTube videos on Blues and they have a beginner class that I wanna take, would my salsa and bachata skills help here ? If yes till what point?
I'm planning on visiting New Orleans in November from Monday and leaving on Friday. I'd like to get some dancing in.
Does anyone know if there's social dancing in places like the French Quarter? I admit I haven't figured out where I'll be staying but probably some touristy area š¤·āāļø unless folks have suggestions. Ta!
Anyone have mother/grandmother themed music I can play for a mother's day blues and blues-fusion dance? Looking for beginning/middle of the night vibes for social dancers
Everyplace I think I find turns out closed during the pandemic and is still dead.
Are there any regular partner dancing socials in or near Gorey?
Hey fam, What are your favorite lyrics or quotes from Black blues musicians. Bonus points if they're comically dirty. š
Would be interested in picking those routines up by myself!
Iāve learned the hound dog routine by myself recently and itās been fun!

Does anything else come close to that intensity?
Many months ago I went to a dance concert with my partner. Her long time blues dance partner was there and they ended up dancing a lot, with me basically left to third wheel. Their dancing seemed extremely sexual and at the end of one of the dances they ended up kissing. We talked about it and she told me that that was normal and that it was a platonic kiss but I'm skeptical (saying that she never was sexual with this person). Is blues normally so sexual? We tango together and that seems different to me. I'm trying to keep an open mind but I'm pretty bothered and need some feedback.
If you ever get a chance to take a class or workshop from him, I would recommend not missing it.
Heās very good at breaking it down, but keeping the joy of blues dancing.
Hi, if there's a blues dance scene in your city with regular socials, please tell about it. I'm looking to travel Europe and dance as much blues as possible. I've looked online, and often find info about bigger events, festivals and weekends with workshops, etc but looking for active regular scenes. Thx
I dance in a community that is grappling with issues such as predatory dancers, teachers grooming students, etc. I hear that some communities post an explicit Code of Conduct that addresses issues of safety and consent - does your community have one of these? If so, what does it address?
What's the state of the blues dancing scene in the Seattle / Puget sound area? I just moved from New York and need dancing back in my life. Along those lines, what's the state of fusion? Thanks!
As we slowly return to dancing, we should reflect on how we want the scene to look moving forward. I try to make an argument that we should break it and remake it.

So my partner and I live in India and have both danced Lindy Hop pretty extensively over the past 4-5 years, have been to a couple of festivals and have taken quite a few 1-on-1 classes with very accomplished instructors. During this time we've picked up a really, really basic understanding of Blues dancing (literally just pulse, and traveling across the floor) and have recently been delving into the history of the dance and the various idioms of Blues dances. We've been working off Joe DeMers' free Blues series at the moment and are wondering where to go from there, as there aren't any Blues instructors here.
If we can afford it, we'd like to some day be able to take a series of private online classes from an instructor like Damon Stone who truly has roots in the dance and great historical knowledge of it as well.
I'm looking for a choreography that I'm pretty certain was shown at bambloozled and sweet molasses. It was done to "spoonful" and one of the interesting things is the dancer performed it both in women's and men's clothes. I was present for one of them but ended up reading about the other in a blog post and viewing on youtube.
Hi all,
I have been asked to organize a blues dance workshop in my new scene (I recently moved to a smaller town with a nice community of motivated lindy hop, balboa and shag dancers), I have been myself taking blues classes and workshops internationally in the last 5-6 years.
I think I have a lot of knowledge but stored in my body and in my mind somewhere. I started to teach some solo jazz and balboa tasters but only in the last few months.
I am trying to remember how I started with blues and what concepts I have been thought at the beginning, but I am having a hard time remembering how has this been taught.
What would you teach exactly and how much time would you spend on each concept? How much solo practice and how much partnered?
A first draft looks like this for a 2-hour workshop:
1st hour, core concepts, without a partner:
Pendulum Grounding Pulse Commit Lag, move right after the Beat
2nd hour, partnered dancing:
Close position/open position Concept of traveling Body rolls, side and front Some basic classics moves: the grind, the fishtail, c-hips, four corners, shake
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
My partner and I are interested in getting started in blues dancing since weāre quarantined at home. I was looking to purchase a beginner course of instructional videos, but I canāt seem to find anything. Could yāall recommend a resource for beginners that takes us from the basic figures up to some turns and tricks?

We are featuring contemporary artists who swing hard and live the blues. In these times of cancelled events musicians are struggling, please buy albums to support them through these tough times to make sure we still have active bands when we come out on the other side.
This week you will hear Stockholm Swing Allstars, Shemeika Copeland, Grady Champion, Jen Hodge Allstars and more!

So there's a huge Lindy hop event happening soon in my city. On the Facebook page it says that there's an official event-sanctioned "late night blues" dance happening after midnight.
As someone who's fairly new to blues, what should I expect? Is it likely that a lot of the dancers there are going to be new-ish to blues like me, or will there be pros?
Going off of that, are there a lot of dancers that are very active in swing dancing and blues at the same time? I think that the feel of swing music and the feel of blues music are very different, but I've noticed that there are a lot of embellishments that are used often in both dances.
I guess my real question is, how much of a crossover have you other dancers noticed between other jazz-based dances and blues?
New Week, New Tunes!

Hi everyone! I'm a beginner blues dance enthusiast up in Colorado, and I just wanna express how much I've fallen in love with this dance! For me, blues has got this nostalgic feeling that prevents me from sitting still, and I'm so freaking hyped that there's a community of dancers that do blues here! I'm looking forward to watching, learning, and dancing until I die!

I'm new to blues (I follow), so this might be a dumb question. But I notice that sometimes in close embrace I can't avoid having some sort of leg/knee or lower body connection. This often depends on who I'm dancing with. But I feel awkward about it because I'm not sure if this is a standard thing, or something wrong with my frame. Is this normal or should I make adjustments?
