Just a vent. Yes, they are rumors, but at times rumors have merit. If the Jackets don't get this GM hire right, it's going to set us back 5+ years at the very least, maybe even a decade or more. JD should have been fired.
To those of you who have also been a fan since day one, what are you feeling right now? Are you feeling the same as me?
It's Crunch Time for the Monsters in the North Division as Cleveland takes on Syracuse in the Division Final! I sat down with a Syracuse Crunch podcaster to give you a full look at the matchup.
Check it out and let me know if you agree with my predictions.
There ya have it folks! Our boy got the WHL Playoff MVP!
"The reigning WHL Defenceman of the Year finished second in postseason points with 11 goals (including two game-winners) and 19 assists for 30 points and a +18 rating in 20 postseason matches."
So excited to watch this guy in the Union Blue!
Crazy game to claim Moose Jaw's 1st WHL Championship. Rysavy opened the scoring with a really gritty rebound goal. His 2nd was an empty net to seal the 4-2 victory, but it was from deep in the defensive zone, so not a gimme. Mateychuk did not register a point this game, but had multiple shot blocks and was just generally awesome. Actually felt like a close series, despite the sweep. Portland is an excellent team with skill and size all over the ice. They are also a bunch of dirty, cheap-shotting pricks. Warriors will open the Memorial Cup vs. host team Saginaw Spirit on 5/24.
Side note: This is the 2nd year in a row that a CBJ prospect was awarded a CHL league playoff MVP. Malatesta achieved it last year when the Quebec Remparts took the QMJHL title over Dumais' Halifax Mooseheads. Malatesta also earned the Mem Cup MVP with 5 goals in 4 games.
Mateychuk scored 2 goals in Game 3 of the WHL Finals to help the put the Moose Jaw Warriors within 1 win of their first WHL Championship. Denton is currently 2nd in the WHL playoff scoring race, 1 point behind teammate Jagger Firkus. Game 4 is tonight at 10PM, ET.

I can't help but think that this was a wasted season. We were supposed to be out of the basement of the Eastern Conference this year and while there were some positives like the arrivals of Fantilli and Voronkov, Vincent is not a good head coach and I don't think this core can develop with him behind the bench. We also don't have a GM at the moment. The more I think about it the more I think we just added another year or two to this rebuild.
Do we get Jody Shelley back? He's been the occasional NHL Network panelist this past season, and I think a couple of times during '22-'23, but they had him sub for Olczyk several months ago on a prime time NHL on TNT game, and he smashed. Now he's with that Stanley Cup Playoffs broadcast crew nightly, and outshining broadcasters who've been doing it for twice the amount of time.
With Rimer retired and Bally's a total sht-show, I fear Jody might move on to a better, more lucrative, and secure position. It's got to be on his mind.
What does he decide, and why do you think he'll choose one over the other?
The accidental head coach, while improving on last year's record - and despite the absence of Laine - was not an effective coach as far as I'm concerned. Were it not for a galvanizing season by Boone Jenner, and another exemplary season by Zach Werenski, we'd have been at the very bottom of most statistical categories.
What I'd like to see is a graceful parting of ways by Vincent from the team, and a tried and true coach brought in. An anti-Babcock. My pick would be Boudreau.
What about you all? Vote and comment if you'd like to discuss.
Just an interesting “what if”
Just wanted to add that.
Lets celebrate the victories of our players, rather than shit on them.
Also was an amazing game to watch, both the French Goalie Julian Junca and Elvis had stellar games. Was a goalie duel if I've ever seen one.
As we drive towards the upcoming 2024 draft at the Sphere in Vegas, I wanted to take a look at the previous fourth overall picks to try to get an idea of who might be available at fourth. Historically, the results are pretty good. A number of elite players have been picked at four and one of those is generational. There have been two busts but otherwise the Jackets can expect another pretty good player at four.
See the list below to see this year's performance of each of the past 12 draft picks. I've sorted the list by 23' / 24' points per game but the data includes Y2Y - P/GP DifferentialY2Y - P/GP Differential, TOI, Goals, Assists, and SOG.
Not sure how many of you follow the Jackets prospect pool or the WHL, but Denton Mareychuk, captain of the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League is currently second in points in the WHL playoffs. Drafted 12th overall by the Jackets in 22, he's playing lights out and is a joy to watch. I'll be seeing them on Wednesday in Moose Jaw SK.
Has anyone won the trip to Pittsburgh before? I won the two person vip trip and there aren’t details yet but curiosity has me wondering what to expect.
Relatively new supporter of the Blue Jackets. Live in Cleveland so have been following Monster's more closely. What is the general consensus on Jet and his future? Have loved watching him at the RoMoFiHo. For the circumstances, I thought he did pretty decent job when called up to Columbus at end of season. Has played well when returning these past three games in playoffs. His contract is up after this year and with everything that has happened with Elvis and Tarry to end the season, what are everyone's thoughts on with what the organization should do with Jet?
Might not be relevant yet but Jamie McLennan hear Iggy's boy is getting top 5 pick attention.
Technically hired as GM and assistant president of Hockey Ops or however that works, but you get the point. Is this the dream scenario?
Jeff Marek twice this week, once yesterday on the Jeff Marek Show, and today on 32 thoughts has said there’s a coaching vacancy in Columbus. Did HCPV get fired and we don’t know? Did I miss something?
