Hello everybody I moved down to Bloomington normal a few months ago and have had troubles finding a serving job? I’ve applied at almost 15 places and just get told to re apply after 5+ years in hospitality business??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all! My partner and I are first time home owners. Though we have tried to put it off, our deck was falling apart and it was time to get it replaced. We ended up going with a guy who many recommended; however, this is where we screw up. Being young and naive, and assuming since everyone recommended him and we saw photos of previous work, we failed to do proper research thinking that he was going to do all he should.

Well, time passes, he completes the deck and leaves. No word of leaving, nothing. I go out to look at it, and everything seems okay up until we get to the steps. He left a major tripping hazard and there are many ‘inconsistencies’ with the build if that makes sense… this of course made us wonder if everything under the deck itself was okay, and this is where the research came in. Along with the stairs being a huge concern, it turns out we also were supposed to obtain a permit (which he never once mentioned)?

It has been hell the last 2 and a half months trying to get him to come out to fix the steps to the point where we just asked for part of the money back so we can hire someone else but surprise surprise, we have a lack of a response now… so my question is, is there anything at all that we can do or are we just SOL? I’m assuming the other decks he has built were non permitted as well. I just don’t know what to do 😅

My name is Ryan, living in Normal, and I created this post to let others know about our meditation community, The Insight Meditation Community of Bloomington-Normal. We practice mindfulness meditation in the ways taught by the Buddha. The practice of mindfulness is for everyone and our purpose is to provide more opportunities for practicing meditation as a community here in Bloomington-Normal. You do not need to be a Buddhist or interested in Buddhism to gain benefit from this class, it is not uncommon for those of different faiths to practice with us.

Around noon today, I was parked at the outer lanes of Fresh Thyme watching a disturbing scene unfold. I looked down the lane to see a red pick up truck pull behind a small black car with a young girl/woman (I’d say 18-22 years old?) A 40ish year old Great Value Kid Rock looking guy stepped out and approached the black car while yelling and throwing his hands up in the air. I unrolled my window to hear what was happening. He started screaming awful things (things I do not want to repeat) to this girl about the way she pulled into the parking lot. She calmly responded by saying I’m sorry you didn’t see my turn signal. I was horrified by what I saw and heard and now that I am retelling this story, I am embarrassed that I didn’t step in. I too, am a smaller female and I don’t know how much I could have done by means of intimidation but I regret at least not sticking up for her. If for any reason you are seeing this, I am so sorry this happened to you today. No matter what the incident was that occurred, it was not worth the reaction you endured by that awful “man”. And if you are the awful disgusting piece of trash that screamed at someone half your size and half your age, I pray that you are not married and do not have children. If you are capable of acting in such a manner in a public setting at noon on a Wednesday at an upscale grocery store, I would hate to imagine what you would do to someone behind closed doors. You are why we choose the bear!

I recently moved to town and we just have our refrigerator water filter. Was wondering if that’s good enough or if an under the sink water filter would be a better option. No idea what the water quality is like here. Thanks!
