Does anyone else think that Gordon playing the wrong bassline could’ve have been like an ear piece malfunction or something? because he doesn’t try to correct it or anything but he doesn’t play a bassline that’s not in the song. Also is the one on YouTube the only video of them playing Montreal in Latitude or is there another angle?
Such a beautiful song. As a guy who spent many of my younger years not knowing what to do with myself this song cuts deep. Always been one of my favorites
(Also pun intended)
I've noticed when comparing Hymns to Smother that some people here are fans of Wild Beasts so I've decided to create a subreddit for the band and the solo acts of Hayden and Tom.
It's called r/wildbeastsband
While the band is disbanded I still think the band deserves a place where they can get discussed and also a good place to discuss other projects in the Wild Beasts universe.
This is also a replacement for the original Wild Beasts subreddit who's mods aren't active anymore and the subreddit itself hasn't had any interaction in a long time and has barely anyone in it.
So how long do we reckon it'll take for these reappear on Spotify then? Weeks??
Forgive me if there was a fan made compilation I may have missed, but why doesn't Silent alarm have a bsides collection like Another weekend in the city? Or the other albums for that matter. Did they just happen to do a lot more for Awitc?
I’m curious as to the sequencing/track listing used in the B sides collection, does anyone know whether this was put together with any sort of sequencing in mind? Or are the tracks grouped in terms of singles release order etc.?
For my ad-hoc tracklisting for Another WITC compilations I’ve put together in the past, I’ve typically plagiarised this one which I found trawling through another post on here relating to Another WITC: https://imgur.com/another-weekend-city-tracklist-Xh5vtwT
It just flows so well, we were lovers as an opener into Cain says to Abel hits just right. Emma Kate’s Accident is also the perfect closer. Maybe I’m bias since I’ve listened to this track sequencing so much but I feel like it flows so much better than the way we’re presented the B sides on streaming. Would love to hear other people’s thoughts on their preferred ‘album’ sequencing!
Same chords, right? Just something I noticed and thought might be worth sharing.
Absolute crazy times. AWITC dropped which was amazing in itself and then news started filtering of bonus tracks. Thought it might be one or two on the Japanese version but they started popping up in all manner of places. Spent a couple of weeks furiously collecting them (illegally, shamefully. No one can buy 11 versions of the same album)
Can't even remember what track was on what release, anyone remember ?

Hi all, just wanted to update you all on the release today and what's gone wrong.
When I hopped on Reddit this morning I was hoping to see you all excitedly listening to these songs and discussing them. Unfortunately I saw the complaints about sound quality and you're right - it's a mess. It transpires that PIAS, the record label with whom the band has partnered to release the catalogue recordings have used rips, rather than taking the time to find the masters and deliver them to DSPs like we were told they were doing.
As far as we are concerned, this is totally unacceptable and a bit of an insult to those of you who have been excited to hear these songs properly, particularly the likes of Vision Of Heaven that have been impossible to come by in a lossless format historically.
From my side, I can only apologise that this wasn't caught before these songs went live today. I should have insisted on hearing these tracks before they went up, as opposed to assuming the label was doing its job correctly and will 100% be making sure this is the case in the future.
As for now, we've asked the label to take down all these songs from DSPs and they won't be replaced until I've 100% confirmed we are submitting lossless, original masters from the big box I know is in their office, rather than lazily uploading audio that some of you have better versions of on your own hard drives.
Important to note that the band had nothing to do with this debacle, so please don't dig them out on Instagram - you can abuse me in here instead.
We'll post something for the non-Reddit fans to socials a bit later, but wanted to get this up here first as I know how passionate this community is.
I'll update you all when we have more from PIAS. Thanks for your patience and sorry!

I've been wondering about this for a while, but does the band actually have a manager? I remember that Simon White managed them at one point. And is there any kind of mentor who is a point of contact throughout their entire career or for a longer period? Radiohead have Nigel Godrich. Pearl Jam had Brendan O'Brien for very long periods. Vampire Weekend now have Ariel Rechtshaid. Rick Rubin seems to be a kind of mentor for many bands and musicians.

I didn't pick it up at first when listening just past midnight on my phone speakers, but after comparing the so-called 320kbps Spotify versions to the ALAC / FLAC collections gathered by redditors on this very sub in the past, it's night and day.
And it can't just be called Spotify compression because the Rhododendrons available on the Causes 1 soundtrack, which already existed on Spotify, sounds heaps better.
EDIT: Here is the objective proof. Using a couple of websites – one called SpotifyDown to grab the original files (don't worry, I deleted it straight after), and another called Spectrum Analyzer to analyse the sound output, it is clear as day that the newly uploaded version of Rhododendrons is of a lower bit rate than what previously existed. This is from the exact same point in the song – 3:24 – where the chorus explodes into a brilliant goodness and the line "drunk again in the rhododendrons" is repeated.
Rhododendrons – Causes 1 version (11.3MB)
Rhododendrons – AWITC B-Sides version (11.1MB)
It's honestly a bit disappointing to see this come to pass. I thought the hard part would be the licensing (and I'm pretty sure said licensing has been 3+ years in the making, so kudos to the team), but the fact that half of the tracklist sounds like a YouTube rip is seriously strange.
I remember a lossless compilation put together by someone on here about 5 years back who actually went to the effort of purchasing every individual CD on Discogs to source the original lossless files. Unfortunately, that version still reigns supreme currently.
The silver lining is that this release is currently digital only, which means the files can be updated. I think it just needs attention to be drawn to it. There are people out there in the community who can help (much more so than I!).
God Bless Bloc Party.
Hearing “Vision of Heaven” in high quality is something else. 17 years in the making!!
I’ve had this album on my phone for more than a decade. Excited for an official release but prob won’t delete this out of nostalgia for the era of fan sharing 😂.
With the AWITC B-Sides being released shortly I thought it would be neat to see what everyone's favourite b-side from that era is. Personally I've always been fond of We Were Lovers, but Atonement is probably a close second. What's yours?
