Welcome to /r/blindpokemon!

This sub is dedicated to making step by step pokemon walkthroughs for people who are blind.

Welcome!

You may be wondering, how in the world does a blind person play Pokemon games? The answer is fairly simple, memorization. We are able to memorize the battle menus, the party menus, and the cry of each Pokemon. However, there are times where we struggle with playing, such as navigating difficult areas, using menus that aren't always used (e.g) the battle tower menus, etc.

The goal of this sub is to ask for the help of those with sight to collaborate and make these obstacles accessible. Any walkthrough you post is greatly appreciated. It doesn't matter what game it's from, or the size of the walkthrough. The plan is to add all the walkthroughs to one big text file, eventually so we can have a step by step walkthrough for each game.

Note: The link to the Black and White walkthrough is the recommended way the tutorials should be written.

Blind users, feel free to ask for a specific walkthrough, however all you can do is ask and it may or may not be written for a while.

Useful Links

Rules

  1. Please take this sub seriously. Those who purposely give false directions may result in a ban.

  2. Please respect each other, blind users especially. Those who create these walkthroughs are going out of their way and using their personal time to generously create these walkthroughs.

  3. Walkthroughs that you create must be in a .txt format.

  4. Walkthroughs may be posted to be critiqued by others. If everyone is satisfied with it, I will add it to my site, as well as add it to a txt file that will be available for download.

  5. If you see an error in a completed walkthrough that I have uploaded, message me and we can discuss fixing it.

Any interest in tactile graphics of Pokémon?

Hi guys, I’m a tactile graphic designer who is interested in making tactile images of Pokémon. These would be files to use with an embosser or other tactile graphic display device. I’m wondering how many blind or low vision people would be interested? I’m also trying to get an idea of how many people have an embosser or similar device that can produce graphics.

Pokémon Access Romhack Problems.

This has only been happening with the Gameboy and Gameboy Color games for me.

The Hacks I tried are:

• Pokémon Black, The one about the unseeable ghost from lavender twon that curses people on your journey.

• Pokemon Prism

• Pokemon Crystal clear

For the first 2, I'm following the hack rom instructions:

• Load game

• Load script

• Ignore game not supported message and return to the game

• Press shift+0

Nothing happens on the 2 games when I press ).

On crystal clear, the script does run, but its very limited.

The map is always stuck on Pokémon center, and the path find funsion doesn't work because the camra thinks I'm walking in the void.

When I try to rename a building or object, it renames everything that looks like it as well.

The map bug has always been there, but on the orignial crystal access, it would be stuck on Olivine city.

The Void bug is a new one, and I think most of them came from the games update from 2.3.0 to 2.4.3

Can anyone tell me if they have also had any of these problems, and if they have found a fix or work around for any of them?

Thanks.

Proposal for a new kind of Pokémon Nuzlock.

So, I'm not sure if I can post this here but I want to know if anyone would be interested in this idea.

My Idea was, A Scavengerlock.

Basically its the same rules as a normal Nuzlock, first Pokémon found in the route is the one you have to catch, Pokémon dies if fainted, game over if all of them faint.

The twist is that you can only use the Items that NPC's give to you, and the Items you can pick up off the ground.

Its also not that simple though.

Pokémon with the ability Pick up aren't aloud, because you can get more items that way.

We're trying to make the challenge as hard as possible, so the ability to get more Items after you can't find or get anymore would make it less challenging.

Also excluding the Secret base Decorations, because they don't have any effects on battles.

That's almost everything, but I have one question

Should I allow use of the Master Ball?

My thinking is That the MB gets you a guaranteed Capture, Taking the challenge out of catching a Pokémon.

Let me know what you think in the Comments.

I'm active, but not active enough to where I will see your comments imediatly.

Thanks for reading my rambling.

Are Any of The Old Walkthroughs Still Around?

I was a little disappointed that this Subreddit is not being updated as much anymore. But it doesn’t hurt to ask. Right? I was just wondering if any of the old walkthroughs from the website were still around? I’m on a bit of a Pokemon kick at the moment, and I wanted to see if I could play Diamond or Pearl. I tried getting the pages from the Wayback machine, but although the website was archived, the walkthroughs themselves were not. If anybody still has any of them lying around, I’d appreciate any help on obtaining them. Wish this was still a bit more of an active Subreddit. But oh well, this is still pretty niche.

Pokemon Black and White Tutorial Walkthrough

Hi!

For school, I made a very simple walkthrough of Pokemon Black and White's tutorial. It goes through gameplay set up to making it to Accumula town. I wanted to add some image descriptions to the cut scenes and provide some navigation instructions. My concerns are that I might have been too wordy for it actually to be helpful. This was my first time doing something like this.

If anyone is interested in using it or has any comments for me, please let me know!

Pokemon Text-Accompanied Adventure!

Hello! I am a sighted Pokemon fan with a passion for accessibility.

I was working on a text-based adventure game designed for accessibility earlier when I realized that it would be possible to read from a ROM of a mainline Pokemon game through an emulator and, using the data and state of the game itself, trigger a series of written text adventure prompts to describe the environment the player is currently in and prompt the player's next action.

Functionally, this would mean that it's possible to develop a text-based adventure running entirely on the game's original code, along with handwritten prompts. This would allow you to play through a Pokemon game with detailed descriptions of the areas and the objects within them

For example, the first screen of Pokemon Red version might play out something like this:

You are in your bedroom. In the center of the bedroom, there is a *Television* with a Super Nintendo in front of it. In the southwest corner, there is a bed. In the southeast corner, there is a potted plant. In the northwest corner of the room, there is a desk, with a PC sitting on top of it. In the northeast corner, there is a Staircase leading downstairs.

What do you do?

>Examine Television

"RED is playing the SNES!" "...Okay! It's time to go!"

What do you do?

>Examine PC

"A turned on the PC."

-Withdraw Item

-Deposit Item

-Toss Item

-Log Off

What do you want to do?

>Withdraw Item

-POTION x1

-CANCEL

What do you want to withdraw?

>Cancel

-Withdraw Item

-Deposit Item

-Toss Item

-Log Off

What do you want to do?

>Log Off

What do you do?

>Move to Staircase

You descend the staircase.

You are in your house. In the center of the room is a table, where your Mom is sitting at the table. Along the north wall, there is a Television. In the northwest corner, there are Bookshelves. Along the south wall, there is an Exit.

What do you do?

And so on.

Obviously the descriptions need work, but that's the general idea.

My question, then, is would anybody be interested in playing a game in this manner? It would take a significant amount of work to design and program, but it'd be more than worth it to me if it would help give more people access to these amazing games.

Thank you for reading!

Can someone attempt walkthroughs for the 6th and 8th gyms in pokemon black 2 and white 2?

I don't know how difficult this would be because these puzzles are kinda time sensative. I think it would be possible though, with a bit of trial and error. For example saving after each trainer and then using soft resets if timing is off or you end up in the wrong place. Could someone attempt writing instructions for these gyms? These gyms are the only inaccessible parts of the game, the rest I have been able to complete on my own.

Pokemon Platinum - Anyone want a walkthrough through the Distortion World

Just playing Platinum - can't play our Pokemon Shield copy ATM -and wondered if anyone would appreciate this. This Distortion world appears to be the most confusing part to get through, even for sighted players like me. There's floating platforms, vertical walls, a puzzle...

I'm going through and writing a guide for the right way through. If anyone wants it then I'll post here when done. I'll also check if there's better ones on here or Nighthawk's OG website, though a search for 'Distortion World' on r/blindpokemon didn't give me anything.

If no-one needs it, then... its just for me then lol....

Pokemon for totally blind users

Hello

I've throught about getting a 3DS and Pokemon Ultra Moon or Ultra Sun, or else a DS and Pokemon Black or White 2, since gens V and VII are two of my favorite generations.

I have a few questions:

First, are there any screen-readers on a 3DS or Switch, similar in nature to voiceover or JAWS?

Second, I've tried seeing AI on my girlfriend Antonia's 3DS with questionable results, I don't have the steadiest of hands so alining it is hard for me. Is there an emulator I can get on my Windows 10 PC where I can download Pokemon Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon, or else Pokemon Black or White that will work with JAWS?

Finally, are there any accessible online or PC downloadable Pokemon games that are post Generation IV? I.E. Unova and up?

Any help at all is deeply appreciated.

thanks.

PS, I want to try to minimize how much I'll need help from Antonia.

Finished the main storyline of Sword, happy to help others

Ok so, I have some vision and play on a 65inch TV, I know that people who are totally blind play Pokemon, being one of them playing on a small screen, but I'm not sure how playable are the new games. It was a lot easier in RBY, SGC and RSE, I can can't imagine navigating the Wild Area blind. Would love to hear your experiences.

Saying that, I finished the main storyline and now just completing my dex for the shiny charm, and a bit of competitive breeding I am happy to help you if you have any questionss 👍

Who's started their journey in Sword and Shield, and how are you finding it?

game came on the 15th, just waiting for my Switch to come back. This will be my first Pokemon game since Ruby, I have been following game mechanics so I'm clewed up on that,I'm more interested in techniques you use to play. I will be hooking it up to my tv so it should help, but when it comes to reading text it's possible, but not sure if I could do it for hours.

WOULD love to hear your experience with Sword and Shield! 👍
