A bicycling subreddit dedicated to bicycle culture and cycling's place in our society. Look here for articles about cycling's transportation role, bicycle community, or other cycling literature.

This reddit is about how using the bicycle affects our daily lifes and how culture and politics affect our bicycle usage.

  • Discuss current transportation politics.

  • Show photos or videos of cities which are doing it right ...or wrong.

  • Talk about cultural events that are related to bicycling.

  • Show insights into different subcultures within the bicycle community.

  • How does bicycling affect cultures and societies around the world?

etc, etc, etc....

This is not the place to discuss bicycling as a sport, share blog posts/videos/images of your latest trip or to show photos of your new bike. There are other subreddits for that.

Wind Noise Reducer

Does anyone else use these? I don’t know anyone that does but I find them invaluable for making the ride more comfortable and safe, as I can hear other sounds such as approaching cars much better. They attach to the helmet straps and disrupt the wind flow past your ears. The traditional ones stick out more and are more effective than the narrower streamlined ones. They look very goofy I’ll admit, and I even had a group of cops I was asking for directions make fun of me for wearing them.

Could animated lights on bicycle wheels be beneficial in terms of modernizing cultural preferences?

Seeing videos like these:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2VmLmSWqSE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vL_xcswZx0c

Makes me wonder how much impact a seemingly pointless addition can make.

Sure, from the front or back, car driver's won't really see it, but I wonder if an important point is that this is visible from the sides.

If you ride past a bunch of cars parked in traffic, the people inside will be bored and are probably looking out the windows, and will be amazed at seeing such a cool and colorful display. Especially kids, weebs, and gamers.

With computers and even just rooms having RGB lights everywhere, and the rise in popularity that anime and manga is having, then perhaps normalizing cool RGB lights, even to the point of having animations playing on the wheels, can help encourage more people get into bicycles.

Plus it lets you express yourself, which seems like a key factor in how humans socialize.

Any thoughts?

Looking for examples of well established and loved bike shops that also have a F&B aspect. I've been to a few the Hub in Pisgah stands out looking for more examples of those who can pull it off.

Would You Use This? A Backpack with a Rain Hood + Bike Seat Cover

Hey, we’re Hillary and Drew, and we’re working on a backpack designed specifically for bike commuters who deal with rainy weather.

The problem? Biking in the rain sucks—you get soaked, your backpack isn’t always waterproof, and when you park, your bike seat gets drenched too.

Our idea: a backpack that has a built-in rain hood to keep you dry while riding. Then, when you park, the hood detaches and doubles as a bike seat cover, so you’re not stuck sitting on a wet seat when you ride again.

We’d love to hear from you:

- Would you use something like this?

- Have you tried any gear that actually works for these problems?

We’re still in the design phase, so any feedback would be super helpful. Thanks, and happy riding!

— Hillary & Drew

Help with identifying bicycle brand

Hi all! I used to have this mountain bike that I LOVED but I can’t recall the brand… it had a black/white/orange logo with a goat. Anyone knows what it was? I think it was a German company…

Tierra Bella 2025 Bicycle Tour Registration Open

The Almaden Cycle Touring Club (ACTC) invites you to celebrate Spring on Saturday, May 3, 2025 by riding some of the prettiest roads in southern Santa Clara County on our 46th annual Tierra Bella.  Go to Tierrabella.org to register today!

Two events - one great day!

All routes start and end at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy CA.

Register today and receive an early bird discount!  Registration for each ride is capped to limit the number of riders on the road and at rest stops, so don’t get left behind.

Whether you choose the challenge of a longer ride with beautiful climbs, or venture out for some fun and fitness on a pretty shorter, flatter route, you’ll be well supported. Over 200 ACTC volunteers will ensure your safety at intersections, provide SAG assistance, and be at multiple rest stops to offer great food, replenish liquids, and repair mechanical issues.  Enjoy a hot beverage and nut breads before the ride and join in the finish line celebration with food trucks, beverages, fruit bars, and music (vouchers for food trucks must be pre-purchased).

When you register, you can choose to purchase a 2025 Tierra Bella Cycling Jersey separately or a cool looking T-Shirt.

In addition to the May 3rd festivities, your registration includes a free introductory ACTC membership through May 31, 2025 (or an extension for current club members). Club members have access to a wide variety of daily group rides for all skill levels, including conditioning rides to get you ready for the Tierra Bella (see the ACTC website, actc.org, for ride listings).

To register or for more information, go to tierrabella.org.

Join us on Facebook for updates.

Track and compare your training progress on our Strava club.
